so the shit that changed everything in scratch was actually a mistake. what does this teach us? that not everything innovative comes from some genius mind but from trying a lot and experimenting and, why not, even mistakes :)

@intromix yahhh..like godddammnn... this is hard to find in it's entirety.. There must be some legal issue with the clip??? I scoured for a few hours but maybe someone has it but odd keywords for searches? ANyone have this on Tape?? I'll transfer for free! ...I'm talking about the Saturday Night Live ROCKIT clip with DST andHerbie Hancock..
This is what I'm talking about. what a sensational doc. Thanks for offering this. Are those clips of DST from SNL? I watched that about 15 years ago and have been dying to see the whole thing again,, what is that from (at 2:00 in)
@freqazoidiac yeah that was SNL, 1984 I believe, when Ringo Starr hosted it, other Rockit performances are okay, but this was the BEST one and this clip right here is the one where DXT (DST) influenced me to be a DJ
And sadly these robotic beats are lost on all the hip hop kids today who don't realize their roots lay in electro-funk, pretty much the source of both hip hop AND techno. Having said that, techno keeps it far more real. Sample Cybotron's "Clear", widely believed to be the first techno track produced and tell me if you can't breakdance to that shit too. :)
Much respect to Herbie Hancock for having DXT as his DJ! But it was DXT who made that record into a classic! I will never forget when saw him cutting it live on the award show! I went to school that next morning all messed up, i couldnt concentrate. I wanted to try it on my pops record player,,,,,,,,,,,,,its been history since! Thank you DXT!!!!!!!!!! And all the fore fathers of HIP HOP!
Yeah Boyeee, this guy was my In-Spi-Rae-Shun. Even today Rockit sounds FRESH,and the live performance of it was Fer-Nom-In-Al. Cuttin' in Timezones "Wildstyle" was genius.
herbie gots the grammy and the cash and dst nada lol
