we have this bagpipe culture too , i am from east blacksea region of Turkey (Artvin) , in Laz language it is "Guda" :) and this dance is a little looking like to our dances
@lazfromturkey look I don`t want to argue withy you but I think that Bulgarian bagpipe is older than yours and our tradicional dance called "Horo" is older than your country !
@lazfromturkey Yes, the instrument is popular in Iran also and its origin is somewhere in Asia. What is more interesting when it came to Bulgaria and how. The dance is also similar to the ones in Turkey, also reminds of Kurdish dances, and Iranian too. One of the theories popular now is that the proto-Bulgarians came from what is now Iran and it's a rather plausible one. There is a very popular Iranian world music ensemble using the bagpipe too.
Now that's a neat trick. He takes the blowpipe out of his mouth to sing, but blocks it with his chin so he can keep playing at the same time, then gets it back into his mouth without missing a beat. I'm impressed.
It's great to see that bagpipe culture is not entirely dead outside the British Isles. I love German and Eastern European/Balkan pipes and I wish more people played them. Glad to see some still keep the tradition alive!
"...not entirely dead," as in an Olympic marathon runner is "not entirely dead"? Seriously, Bugarian piping has to be as alive as Highland piping; you won't see a Bulgarian festival without their "gaida." BTW there's a bagpipe in northern Spain called the "gaita."
That's not true! There is no difference between the bagpipes of bulgarian christians and bulgarian muslims. Such a thing as "pomaks gaida" doesn't exist.

ГАЙДА - ТОВА МОЖЕ ДА СЕ ВИДИ САМО В БЪЛГАРИЯ !
UBIGI 1 year ago
@UBIGI Напротив може да се види и в Турция, Кюрдистан и Иран. Нашите хора и ръченици са по-живи като ритъм и мелодика обаче.
