that particular B sounds extremely nice. i don't think it's a B3... maybe a B2 with the added box on left cheekblock. seems like might even have the very rare B2 curved fallboard.
Especially the groovy part starting at 3:07 truly establishes his playing as one of the most soulful and most sensitive styles in the world. Combined with his uniquely impressive appearance, Dr. Lonnie Smith is one of those few honest legends we have here in the world, period.
Very beautiful rendition. Judging from what appears to be an after-market percussion unit, and the sound of the chorale, that is likely a B2 or BV, no newer than from 1955 or earlier.
I got to have breakfast at a Bickfords and a late afternoon jam session with the Dr. We talked about Joe Dukes, Stevie Wonder, Benson, all childhood friends- that was one of the greatest afternoons of my life.
There's nothing like having someone like Lonnie really listening to you.
A jazz master. It's a little like watching Max Roach, or any other really good longtime musician: he knows his instrument inside and out by now, and he's in complete control of it. So that frees him up to just play, always in the moment, always sharp.
Beautiful alto sax tone - quite unique yet reminds me of ornette coleman. Funny when Lonnie looks to the Saxophonist to take the 2nd bridge and he doesn't!
Dang this is good.....!!!!

when I hear the first notes of the guitar, I must think of the CD '"Kenny Burrell plays Ellington" . Very nice sound. Well done.

Notice, he colors his bass the same way Jimmy Smith did, playing the middle of the lower bass so he can sit up straight!!!
