I love how you guys emphasize how there really aren't any rules and rights and wrongs. If people didn't try different things photography would never evolve. I take a lot from vids like this and try to use it in my own style. Love what I have seen so far! Keep making more videos!
Interesting comparisons but you can see how easy it is to go overboard on slider settings. I know what you're saying about this being a subjective exercise. However turning a natural portrait into a hyper stylized barbie doll the aesthetic looks unnatural in Adam's. Sometimes a beauty spot isn't really a defect but adds to the model's personality. I'm not a fan of using vignetting as a quick way to isolate the foreground from the background as this looks so obvious as an effect.
It's really great just watching you guys tweak the sliders around, explore changes and see what goes on in your mind as to whether to keep or undo the changes. Very cool - and amazing photo! Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
hey guys you know when you're adjusting certain things like split tone, hsl, detail, effects or the top adjustment brushes and stuff, in any of them if you press the small b&w box on the left side of the panel you can preview the before and after like pressing "\" but only applying to whatever area you were using
i realize a lot of people have been down on the Fro for this whole situation with Greg (and I myself do not like the fact that Greg has been ousted), but you know, you gotta hand it to Fro, very few people, if any, put out the sheer amount of content that Jared puts out (sure you can argue about the quality, he's not advanced with Lightroom, blah blah blah), but damn man, the due works his butt off for the contents that are free to us. RESPECT.
The other dude's edit looks way to "photoshopped".. Very fake. Jared's looked nice and natural.. I like the far right one with the vintage-y look the most though
Jared wins obv. more red in the cheek, surroundings are better than the other dudes cause he made them darker which looks worse. Also the teeth look super fake on his. He went too far with touching and looks unnatural.
@leitens2709 .nef files are RAW files. There is no .raw format. Every camera manufacturer has their own RAW format. If there is anything slightly comparable to a "universal" RAW format it would be Adobe's attempt with their .dng format, which you can export via Lightroom.
@unimatrixZxero YES!!! Thank's for every people cup help me! I download the last version of Adobe Lightroom and finaly cup import the .nef files!!! Thank you very much!!! (sorry by my english... it's very poor.... I'm from Argentina... Thank you again!!! And thank you for your time!!!
@leitens2709 Don't hold me to this, but I think that when you go to import the pictures you can convert them to .DNG by clicking a check box, and I think that is a raw format as well....
How's about giving us a beginners guide series on Lightroom? Going through your workflow and whatnot. Just a thought, I and many others would probably really appreciate it.
(Thumbs up if you guys would like to see something similar to this) :)
@IEarnMyRespect Check the videos mentioned in the 'How to get started with Lightroom' post in the Postprocessing - Lightroom forum on the Fro-site. All the videos on the site are for beginners anyway :)
@JaredPolin you always say that you "edit by the look" and not get to technical like watching the histogram. I'm quite convinced that you have not realized that about everybody but you use the tools the histogram as, a tool, and still edit by the feel and look.
Look at Adam, Dom and Greg, they know the tools in and out so good that they easily can make changes that really boost the images. That's why 8/10 I've liked their photos over yours, because they can what you can't in the final edit.
I say this., "Before you bend the line, you should learn to draw a straight line."
Jared is close minded and he doesn't like what he doesn't know until he knows it. Example "fill light" remember how he despise that slider and even call Greg "Mr. Fill Light". Now that he knows it he is using it all the time.
@JustAdam112 Well, yes and no (Comme ci, comme ca), no pun intended: Yes in the way that you more you know, the easier, faster and more clear, you can get to the final result. I'd say, in this video in particular, Adam's edit is so smooth, and I get the feel that's easier to follow through and learn from him (Lerner...)
No in the way that, as you said, it's personal preferences - but that in fact does not contradict the 'yes' .
hey jared! what is the equivalent of my canon ef-s 50mm 1.8 on my canon 60d? is it 50mm? coz in my eye it's 50mm! but i dont know really.. not sure.. or can anyone tell me? THANKS!!
@piccicacca If you put a 50mm lens on a crop sensor, like 60d, you have 50x1.6 = 80mm. EF-S just means you can't put it on a full frame camera. EF-S lenses can be smaller because of that fact. But you still need to multiply the focal length to get the 35mm equivalent.
@sukantomaikap i thought of doing that today, the great part about these edits is you guys can show us what you think we should have done. The more edits the better for everyone to learn from.

Because I read at some source RAW tend to be not sharp as JPEG because RAW ignore sharpness setting in camera.

@PhlipOutPhoto No, It'll give you a focal length of 80mm due to it's 1.6x crop factor. Hope that helps. Cheers.. :)
shonasam840 9 months ago
@piccicacca pretty sure the 60d is a 1.6x crop sensor... so 50mm x 1.6 = 80mm on a full frame sensor...
