  • black and white is the best

  • Sweet fro flip at 21:25 :D

Great edits!!! Definitely keep them coming :D

  • What am i doing wrong?*

  • @MeineKleineWaffe You're not using Canon, that's what's wrong. Haha jking.

  • @lilduck99 hehe

  • I have a 24-70mm f.2.8 lens (nikon) but my pictures never seem to be as sharp as the ones jared edits. What am i doing

  • great video. really helpfull

  • I love how you guys emphasize how there really aren't any rules and rights and wrongs. If people didn't try different things photography would never evolve. I take a lot from vids like this and try to use it in my own style. Love what I have seen so far! Keep making more videos!

  • I love your videos, I just wish they weren't so long!

  • My favourite is BW version. I'd just lighten eyes.

  • I really like No. 4

  • how am i supposed to send you a file more than 10mb ?

  • she is already hot. there is nothing to do better.

  • i like yours jared

  • ..but I think this was a great workshop and thanks for sharing your insight into the tools.

  • Interesting comparisons but you can see how easy it is to go overboard on slider settings. I know what you're saying about this being a subjective exercise. However turning a natural portrait into a hyper stylized barbie doll the aesthetic looks unnatural in Adam's. Sometimes a beauty spot isn't really a defect but adds to the model's personality. I'm not a fan of using vignetting as a quick way to isolate the foreground from the background as this looks so obvious as an effect.

  • It's really great just watching you guys tweak the sliders around, explore changes and see what goes on in your mind as to whether to keep or undo the changes. Very cool - and amazing photo! Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

  • Where has Greg been lately? Haven't seen him in a video in a while...

  • @zx82 He's doing his own thing these days. Check him out at cazillo dot com

  • What tool des the other guy used To boost the girls eyes?

  • You rock jared! How can i add you on fb?

  • how do you get those specs on the top left of the picture?

  • I just go on "feel" - histograms and levels are fro chumps! LOL

  • Good job both. I'm learning something new from Adam now, so keep working. Thanks

  • wow i really dont like vigneting on that

  • hey guys you know when you're adjusting certain things like split tone, hsl, detail, effects or the top adjustment brushes and stuff, in any of them if you press the small b&w box on the left side of the panel you can preview the before and after like pressing "\" but only applying to whatever area you were using

  • do you think photoshop is good photo editing program? Am i missing something that Lightroom offers vs just adobe photoshop?

  • @shakes39 Simplicity.

  • i agree i knew that was a canon edit. i like that type of editing though it looks really crisp and clean. still love my nikon though :D

  • i agree i knew that was a canon edit. i like that type of editing though it looks really crisp and clean

  • i realize a lot of people have been down on the Fro for this whole situation with Greg (and I myself do not like the fact that Greg has been ousted), but you know, you gotta hand it to Fro, very few people, if any, put out the sheer amount of content that Jared puts out (sure you can argue about the quality, he's not advanced with Lightroom, blah blah blah), but damn man, the due works his butt off for the contents that are free to us. RESPECT.

  • Adams a bit boring and monotoned....get someone else please!

  • jared, do i need a specific size of my jpeg edited file to send it to you?

  • @bryan560 the full res export from lightroom would be perfect along with the raw file.

  • 4:22 Do you mean a slash by any chance? :)

  • Do you sends the shirt for worldwide?(Brazil)

  • @johngalecki yes he does

  • Damnnnnn.... I'd edit her any day.... ;)

(no seriously, I would though.... lol give me the file)

  • The other dude's edit looks way to "photoshopped".. Very fake. Jared's looked nice and natural.. I like the far right one with the vintage-y look the most though

  • This photo doesn't really need editing...

  • Jared wins obv. more red in the cheek, surroundings are better than the other dudes cause he made them darker which looks worse. Also the teeth look super fake on his. He went too far with touching and looks unnatural.

  • does anybody know what the photographer has done to his photo in lightroom ?

    Thanks :)

  • Some blatant advertising.

"Did i just spit on my screen? Oh let me clean that up with my FRO KNOWS PHOTO lens cleaner."

    xD

  • cant wait for my shirt!! even bought stickers hahaha

  • for me the black and white is the best choise

  • I'm really starting to like this Adam guy, he really knows his stuff!! Jared keep him around!

  • Well done on the charity t-shirts.

  • the original photographer wins

  • So I'm a bit late...where'sGreg?

  • @poisondrops

Not in fro knows photo anymore, jared wanted greg not to be part of froknowsphoto anymore

  • @blackxthink Why is that?

  • @poisondrops Go on cazillo (dot) com

Get his youtube account he made a video talking about it

  • The BW looks like a biker chick. Nice!

  • Jared:

Good afternoon! I need to convert files. nef to. raw. How do you do?

  • @leitens2709 .nef files are RAW files. There is no .raw format. Every camera manufacturer has their own RAW format. If there is anything slightly comparable to a "universal" RAW format it would be Adobe's attempt with their .dng format, which you can export via Lightroom.

  • @unimatrixZxero YES!!! Thank's for every people cup help me! I download the last version of Adobe Lightroom and finaly cup import the .nef files!!! Thank you very much!!! (sorry by my english... it's very poor.... I'm from Argentina... Thank you again!!! And thank you for your time!!!

  • Jared:

Good afternoon! I need to convert files. nef to. raw. How do you do?

  • @leitens2709 .nef is Nikon's raw format

  • @Thomas31492 Yes, Tomas, thank's. But I can't put the nef files in to Adobe Lightroom... This program doesn't read .nef files...

  • @leitens2709 You might need to update lightroom if it's not accepting a CERTAIN CAMERA's .nef's....

.nef is Nikon's raw format so I guarantee lightroom will open it.

  • @leitens2709 Don't hold me to this, but I think that when you go to import the pictures you can convert them to .DNG by clicking a check box, and I think that is a raw format as well....

  • Hey Jared,

How's about giving us a beginners guide series on Lightroom? Going through your workflow and whatnot. Just a thought, I and many others would probably really appreciate it.

(Thumbs up if you guys would like to see something similar to this) :)

  • @IEarnMyRespect Check the videos mentioned in the 'How to get started with Lightroom' post in the Postprocessing - Lightroom forum on the Fro-site. All the videos on the site are for beginners anyway :)

  • Send you an email Jared ;)

  • Hey Jared, next time you order a big print from Adorama, video it, show us what you do, Thanks.

  • shes fit....

  • @TheMoo1231 i know what that means now lol and i agree.

  • @JaredPolin :)

  • the canon 50 1.8 is 80 buck in my country

  • its true and i didnt even realize it. i shot canon and i tend to do neg 5 on vibrancy and saturation each hhaha

  • I like the B&W one

  • wow adam has nice ideas! great result

  • Canon lenses are so good for portraits.

  • How about a guess editor that uses Aperture?

  • Jared, I am just wondering if you sharpening your RAW data in Lightroom.

Because I read at some source RAW tend to be not sharp as JPEG because RAW ignore sharpness setting in camera.

FYI, I am shooting with D7000.

  • how do you do the magnify effect ?

  • @JaredPolin you always say that you "edit by the look" and not get to technical like watching the histogram. I'm quite convinced that you have not realized that about everybody but you use the tools the histogram as, a tool, and still edit by the feel and look.

Look at Adam, Dom and Greg, they know the tools in and out so good that they easily can make changes that really boost the images. That's why 8/10 I've liked their photos over yours, because they can what you can't in the final edit.

  • @johanneswingerlang Excactly! 100% agree.

I say this., "Before you bend the line, you should learn to draw a straight line."

Jared is close minded and he doesn't like what he doesn't know until he knows it. Example "fill light" remember how he despise that slider and even call Greg "Mr. Fill Light". Now that he knows it he is using it all the time.

  • @johanneswingerlang Does it really matter though? It's all about personal preferences.

  • @JustAdam112 Well, yes and no (Comme ci, comme ca), no pun intended: Yes in the way that you more you know, the easier, faster and more clear, you can get to the final result. I'd say, in this video in particular, Adam's edit is so smooth, and I get the feel that's easier to follow through and learn from him (Lerner...)

No in the way that, as you said, it's personal preferences - but that in fact does not contradict the 'yes' .

  • i like the black and white it's just way to good..

  • Hey Jared and Adam thanks for doing this video. Loved seeing how others take on an edit of my file. Had great fun watching it.

    So long, Sam

  • I love Adam's edit!

  • hey jared! what is the equivalent of my canon ef-s 50mm 1.8 on my canon 60d? is it 50mm? coz in my eye it's 50mm! but i dont know really.. not sure.. or can anyone tell me? THANKS!!

  • Comment removed

  • @PhlipOutPhoto No, It'll give you a focal length of 80mm due to it's 1.6x crop factor. Hope that helps. Cheers.. :)

  • @piccicacca pretty sure the 60d is a 1.6x crop sensor... so 50mm x 1.6 = 80mm on a full frame sensor...

That, or I've completely botched that... sleep time anyway...

  • IM GLAD TO HAVE GOT THAT NIFTY FIFTY :D

  • Number 4 is way better than all of them.

  • u may wanna try silver fx pro for BW editing

  • @sukantomaikap i thought of doing that today, the great part about these edits is you guys can show us what you think we should have done. The more edits the better for everyone to learn from.

  • Before you moved the mouse cursor, i thought it was a mole.

But anyway, nice editing. I learned a lot Jared :)

  • both look really good, i kind of like adams a bit more, i like the slight desaturation.

  • I can never get people to model for me. Any tips?

  • @TheDemeaning Ask nicely or pay them

  • Name of the model please? :P She's beautiful though. ;)

  • @rastafaris123 Johanna

  • best !
