Happy Birthday Song Copyright

"The melody of "Happy Birthday to You" comes from the song "Good Morning to All", which was written and composed by American siblings Patty Hill and Mildred J. Hill in 1893."

Considering they essentially "stole" the melody, and just made up some lyrics to go with it, I would say they are in no position to be enforcing copyright. People should all sign an online petition to force courts to get rid of this nonsense. It should be public domain. Corporations are getting away with too much.

It is well known that no one own the notes, which are Good Morning to you.

You'd have to convince me they own the lyrics. But the lyrics are two common phrases.

They just use that as a poor excuse to sue people.

@akiratrooper It shouldn't be public domain. If you make a rap song (since many don't count happy b-day as a real song) you wouldn't just let anyone use it in commercials, shows, etc. You would want money for it. It's what keeps these small artists from going broke.
