  • I was there in 78, 79, 80,81,82 and back again on the 30th anniversary tour with my son! neber lost touch with the music but now I disconect fropm you- no point in trying anymoe!

  • I'm feeling this...

  • Your right the 2000's are very bad for music,

maybe good music will come back,

I know how about Grunge with a string Guitars lol.

  • This has been my anthem for thirty years.

  • The bass synth in this live version sounds awesome, croaking, harsh - wish the studio version had as much balls!

  • "the Adolph Hitler Memorial Space Patrol" indeed - fuckin' GREAT!

  • I'm not sure what that top voted comment is on about - he looks completely awkward, not confident at all. His face and motions are strained. His eyes are nervous.

  • Fkin Sik ! Awsome I Waz Their !

  • Super Live Artist!!

  • Saw a show on this tour in Providence, Rhode Island. Awesome, from what I can remember.

  • @Stigbool

I saw this show at the Los Angeles Forum. I was blown away. Even my friends who I had to really convince in coming said it was one of the best stage shows they had seen at that time. I sat down on the floor; 10th Row, I think. I was right in back of Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO.

  • I wish he would have played this in NYC on the 23rd

  • JOJOJ GARY NUMAN NICE!!!!!!! BIEN!!!!!!! BIENNNNNNNNNNNN!!

  • I herd recently that Gary Numan has ass burger syndrome. is this truee?

  • @honban no you do!

  • I herd recently that Gary Numan has ass burger syndrome. is this truee?

  • Wow not only can you tell how much NIN's music is inspired by Numan but they definitely were influenced by his stage show too.

  • gary neuman rocks then and now !!!

  • I used to get the piss ripped BIG time for being a numan fan (I was 13 at the time -1979) All I can say now as I did then-Go F*ck yourselves : )

  • awesome. one of the great old numan songs... classic! thanks so much for posting this!!

  • I wish someone would get the licensing for this and put on DVD. This is a must have! Thanks so much for sharing!

  • @nuwavegurl

I believe you can get his off the "living ornaments" tour dvd...

  • You know, it's strange; i was a teen when GN was doing his thing and for the most part, hardcore fans aside, he was generally considered a bit of a joke but the distance of three decades between now and then has somehow made his music relevant. I guess he was just way ahead of his time and some are just catching up. True genius indeed.

  • This is one of those time where the live version is much better than the album version. Great stuff

  • I saw this show in Montreal 1980 but I did't meet him in person....but i was in awe

of his show..blew me away..he has a streak of Bowie in him..very euro

  • I have the VHS of this show.

  • I saw this Tour- in Michigan

  • @octaviacup

seen him in 2000 i think........? in Michigan for sure...Royal Oak MT....

  • I was born too late!

  • hi hi hi

  • In 1980 I saw this show in Montreal. It was simply amazing. Meeting Gary and the rest of the band after the show was a real bonus.

  • serious dude?that must ve been realy cool.hes amazing,i relly like them.....

  • September 1979, Newcastle City Hall, aged 15, influential? You bet. I've never been right since!

I've just seen GN on his 30th anniversary Pleasure Principle tour (more than once I'm proud to say) and he certainly has grown.

    I haven't I'm still back in '79!

  • I wish I was alive around this time to see this live sadly I have to grow up in the 2000's the worst era of music!

  • couldnt agree more wiht you

  • @IceCubeGaryNumanfan

dude, don't be so hard on the 2000s - godfrapp, ladytron, morcheeba, portished... also there are WAY moree genres out there now ... also back then, being a Numan fan was meant you were on "the outside"... big money bands were groups like Van Halen and Poison... seriously, at least today artists aren't made by album sales or radio play - fans can post here and other cites!!!

  • @garboil

Poison weren't formed until 1983, and being a Numan fan WASN'T being on the outside, I know, I was there in those early days. But hey, nice try :-)

  • @DarkDesires69 - you are so right,

  • @garboil ar you kidding me the 2000's copied the 80's in music no comparision

  • @garboil portishead 2000's? more like mid 90's

  • @garboil being a numan fan STILL means being outside...at least in germany...lol!

  • @IceCubeGaryNumanfan gaga, eniheim, jonas bros, bieber, they have no style. lets hope 2010-2020 produces better stuff....

  • @IceCubeGaryNumanfan This is not the worst era of music.

  • @IceCubeGaryNumanfan It's always the worst era of music.

  • @IceCubeGaryNumanfan Agree 100%, between 2000 to 2010 popular music really sucked ass.

  • @IceCubeGaryNumanfan Though I like most genres of music, I must say that the New Wave era of the 1980's were THEE BOMB!!! I came of age during this time and am thankful and privileged to been a part of it. Every decade gets it "second life" so to speak and 80's music is making a retro-comeback. Now that I'm older, I can appreciate this incredible decade even more than ever :-)

  • @IceCubeGaryNumanfan at least Numan and other are still around making strong albums, we can be thankful for that at least

  • saw this tour - b'ham odeon - it was ace!!

  • this makes the new pleasure principle tour look a bit of a joke

  • Yay I did see this tour and the rest when I woz sweet 16! (god Im old)

  • i wish i could have seen this live

  • i'm thinking the same, this is the best live version of this song i've ever heard

  • This song reminds me of growing up. The CD was always playing in my dad's car. I love his music!!! <3

  • I've never made the association between Numan and Devo before. Kraftwerk possibly but Devo influence, I doubt it.

  • hai fred ouwe rukker, jij noemt dit flikkermuziek?

  • The astonishing thing about this is that Numan is only 21 years old here, and on his first tour, but with such confident stage presence; after having written all the songs and played all the instruments on the album except for drums and bass.

  • Dang, I'm almost 21, I need to hurry up and do something fantastic like Gary Numan. <3

  • @presutton compared to now, I think he looks really awkward back then.

  • @presutton Well, he didn't play ALL the instruments, did he? If he didn't play bass and drums, then he played HALF the instruments.

  • OK, thereagauze, why didn't Devo "run" with this "new age" sound, only to let the "British" picked up the ball to carry it for a touch down! Why is it when America starts something, another country makes it better and finish it!?

  • devo are completely different to gary numan in so many ways, perhaps most importantly is how seriously gary seems to take himself. the music is very serious, devo are not. wtf have you ever heard anything besides whip it? actually scrap that, even if you'd only heard that you should know better not to compare the two. ridiculous, you should be ashamed

  • Easy to see where Billy Joe from Green Day got his costume ideas for 'American Idiot' eh....

  • Gary Numan was the blue print to Devo, music is somewhat similar!

  • um no.

the first Devo formed in 1973, released 1st record in 76, the first Tubeway Army records are from 78.

  • some people are so stupid aren't they? i very much doubt devo were ever inspired later on even by gary numan, 2 very very very styles.

  • My brother and I saw them play with this stage set-up in L.A. The Forum maybe? Loved the music. Unfortunately there were a lot of empty seats. It was assigned seating which wasn't great, but 2 of the guys from DEVO were sitting in our row. Fun times.

  • Freddie Mercury was a little bit arrogant too,

Maybe, if you 'aint got it, you can't flaunt it.

In other words, BALLS makes a good frontman !

You gotta have the balls to pull it off.

  • One thing that Gary has never been and that's arrogant, he's actually very self-effacing........

  • yeah cheers for putting this up

  • AAAAAHHHHH I love this, how infectious is that beat?

  • this is the short version; they put a really nice clean mix of this on the 'pleasure principle' re-release... whenever my friends wanna hear something 'totally eighties', i put this on!!! (and i don't bother telling 'em it's from the seventies ;0)

  • Sorry mate, its just the mighty Gaz

  • YEP so true simply the best

  • the beginning always reminds me of joy division or new order

but somehow i can´t place it right

  • I wonder if a John Foxx, Gary Numan collaboration would be dynamite...even now?!

  • I can assure you, this guy is extremely special and we are blessed to be able to hear his music and his messages.

  • you will never enjoy life as much as us...

  • thats a really great performance of the song, id love to know when/where it was.

  • it was at the Hammersmith Odeon. I have the whole show on DVD-r.

  • his voice sounds even better than on the album

    LONG LIVE NUMAN

  • i much prefer the version of this song he did in the Resonator album.

  • A song written almost 30yrs ago thats still relevant to todays life.

Thats when you know its a great song.

  • OMG..... utterly fantastic!...... I used to sit with a roomful of instruments and play all the parts until I had them all on tape. LOL Sadly, however, the lyrics still fit my life today. Cest la vie!

  • wow he was magic,i used to drive my mum with his music!!!

  • Jesus Numan is born again

  • such precision messiness, love it.

  • FYI, it's about Scientology.

  • Numan is God

  • don't say that to Gary,he's an atheist)

    And so am i

  • Hes my God and i will worship him..not that im religious either.get a grip

  • I'm with you.

  • sublime!

  • what can you say

    magic pure and simple

  • Quite simply thrilling.........still seems fresh today.........

  • He was on the radio today(johnathon ross, radio 2 ) talking about his 30th anniversary tour this year, the first time he has toured the are friends electric album. Should be worth a look.

  • Yeah, I went and saw him in the ABC in Glasgow for his Replicas tour last month... all the songs, just... amazing.

  • Wow - this is really old. I just loved his sound when he used the guitars.

  • beethoven to gary a to z of music right there bal

  • NOTHING EVER TOUCHED Gary Numan ! An it's good to be OLD cuz we got to listen to this TOP CLASS stuff ! Gary Numan for Prime Minister !

  • today's bands can't touch this, dang I sound old.

  • Asperger's, tragically, stole his funk.

  • Hey its an Atari game!!!! Check out my score!!!

  • it's look like the things that reznor do now

  • Reznor is a parasite.

  • dude, whats your problem?

  • I wouldn't say Reznor was a parasite. I'd say he was inspired by Gary a lot. He just took it to a new level.

  • Stunning and timelessly chique. Bless you. Thank you.

  • Still great to see this!

    A NUMAN freak!

    79 onwards.

    Still love the old Gary,Memories.

    Glad his still around.

    Coxynuma.66.

  • All my friends are electric. Just like Gary.

You are a legend my friend.

  • I cant wait to hear this live.Total Ledgend

  • ye learning to spell wud b cool 2

  • thats some fucking shameless hypocracy right there.

  • brings back school daze bopping in the 80's

  • I went to the manchester apollo leg of this tour and the amount of numan lookalikes was fantastic. Wicked gig.

  • Luxthedog, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Next March can't come soon enough.

  • First concert I saw was that tour in Cabridge MA... Loved that the hollywood squares stage set!

  • Superb! My favorite Gary Numan.

  • Talent? Oh brother.

still goes down as one of the greats

    new rave my ass

    NEW WAVE

  • Saw Gary numan Birmingham 1981 What a genius.

First album Tubeway army is a masterpiece.

    Moogs rule

  • You know I am one of the few in the states that loves Gary. I always thought if Bowie and a alien had a love child it would be Gary Numan. We had the American version. Gary Wright. Not bad but. Not the intervator that Gary Numan is. God Bless the UK

  • Was this the actual version which was on the B side of COMPLEX 12" with BOMBERS? It was either that or an import from Japan ... GREAT version though !

  • cant remember mate, too long ago,for really cool Numan vid checkout on broadway

  • Yes it was the B-side of Complex 12"

  • this version is the best

    it fucking rocks!!!!!!!!!

  • Gary was image and talent todays music is just image with no talent

  • I saw him live on this tour. Genius!!! :o)

  • You must be older than me! I saw the Telekon tour which was also the bollocks!

  • the british accent is special

  • That's right! How long will Gary wait for recognition he deserves like nobody else? There's no justice in this world...

  • Gazza gets quite a lot of recognition from the people which COUNT to him, such as REZNOR and MANSON.

  • without question Gary Numan should receive the award for outstanding contribution to music.he is totally awesome.a real fuck you to the BBC

  • Are there any chances to see Gary in Europe ? I wish I lived in England !

  • his shows are still the best and he still plays all the old stuff too, you should check him and his latest band out!

  • still love the guy!

  • this song is from the hammersmith odeon sept,28 1979 i have the original video tape! 28 years old!

  • Yes, it's so unfair! Our culture became shallow and thoughtless. Right for kids watching MTV. All we can do is to stand by Gary for good and for bad...

  • Musical Andy Warhol of the 80's. Pop Icon. Not until he dies will he receive the admiration and respect he deserves. Sad culture we live in.

  • Itotally agree with you,but how wrong that would be,this nice guy without ego deserves to be credited while still on this motal planet, thank you for your music Gary

  • memories,i remember going round with a white face, all the gear, never smiling.mum used to say, that miserable cow never looks well, lol thanks for this classy vid

  • lol I was BANG into Numan in 1980, but I did not go as far as the makeup, but when I saw him on the Telekon tour at Hammersmith Odeon in 1980 I was amazed, and my first ever gig as well !

  • i just watched this fifteen times in a row. i can't wait to watch it later when i'm drunk. i just saw daft punk, their set looked similar to this, GARY NUMAN is a genius.

  • THE PLEASURE PRINCIPLE.

  • Superb, this has got to be the version that appears on the 1987 hits compilation Exhibition. Sounds identical.

  • Would You believe, that as a happy fan from day 1, I could experience the joy of buying three (3) NEW singles of Gary in just two (2) weeks back then;-)

  • never seen gary numan . he drives aircraft now .from years ago . but this tune is one mo fo walk in tune just before u knock shit out your opponent.

  • Had the pleasure of seeing Gary Numan live 3 times..the guy was way ahead of his time and amazing live

  • its the future, cant you see.......

  • saw gary in 1994 at the hammersmith no lights just gary. strange night.

  • Awsome this is such an awsome concert Numan at his best I have this on DVD+R taken from the VHS. Yep Electro Goth is what Down In The Park is Metal, Films, M.E., Tracks, Conversation, Cars, This Wreckage, Sleep By Windows. Have been a Numan Fanatic for 6 years now. I am 24 too. I like the classic stuff like this better then his newer stuff even though his newer stuff is still good.

  • almost 30 years old, yet somehow it still looks like the future

  • Fantastic sound quality - surely the whole needs a dvd release?

  • Numan was light years ahead of his time absolute class! Unfortunately his bloddy record label at the time lost the Video master tapes so thanks to some tosser an important part of music history is lost... never to be shown on DVD!

  • Definitely one of Gary's best songs, and this must have been a great concert. Too bad I was only twelve...

  • Wow, without Gary Numan, there'd be no Trent Reznor, lol. Gary rocks :)

  • i love gary numan but what is he, an electro goth?

  • "Electro goth"? Interesting label you got there.

  • that would be a cool label for once but i think he is just 80's electro

  • I think Numan is impossible to categorize. He started off as a punk, then added electronics, and he later used violins and saxophones and all sorts of other instruments. He's often associated with electronic music but I think that's just a part of what he does. Numan is very unique and very cool!

  • I also saw this tour in the USA early '80. 'Disconnect' is my favorite Numan tune.

  • I was 16..Montreal. February 1980..very first row..what can I say..absolutely awesome..

  • This looks like the stage set-up I remember from seeing him on the American leg of the 1980 tour

  • I love it!

  • I went to see him in 1980 with my bruv and father at wembley arena. . remember him drinking a can of coke in between songs:0
