  • i like the lighting scheme but the design just looks brittle, like it'll slice through space quite nicely but perform any maneouvers and bits will start snapping off :P

  • Personally, I think the J looks like the designers were trying too hard to make it look like the NX Enterprise. And since it was shown on Enterprise, that kind of shows where the designer's bias was.

    No, it wasn't. It was specifically designed for the episode "Azati Prime". It wasn't even given a class name. It was later given a full model in a calender.

    You can read the designer's own interview on Memory Alpha. I don't see how you can say it was seen before the series it was designed for.

    They clearly designed it to resemble the NX-class.

    Hit up Memory Alpha. It was designed for Enterprise. The image in Enterprise was low-detail. The higher detail image used in the Ships of the Line calender, and most likely the book cover, was done later.

    And the quotes are from Doug Drexler, the guy who designed it. You can go to his actual site and read him talk about it, too.

    It was designed, in his own words, as a "quick and dirty" model for the show. The later images used a higher-detail model.

  • @Draknfyre I unlocked mine just the other day. It behaves like a Galaxy on steroids, and matched a Dreadnaught in combat performance with no upgrade consoles, even without the cannons and phaser lance.

    I got to mess around with it in the mission, but of course that wasn't a real demonstration of it's powers. The C-Store version with auxiliary craft and saucer-separation is coming out in a few weeks or something.

  • It would be nice to know what enterprise f g h and i looked like, but thats a 25th century story to see, and thats what they should make the next tv series be, the 25th century enterprise saga ( hopefully the star trek writers still fully support the PRIME reality as well as the alternate reality they created in the 2009 film)

  • @kylephantom4 The people who hold the reigns to Trek now do not support the prime universe. They created the 2009 movie to get around and away from the establish canon and continuity just so they could do whatever they want free of those shackles. It's a smart move, and a bad move all at the same time. You wont see any "prime universe" stuff made anymore. It's finished.

  • @OpenMawProductions They could always do some "multi-universe" plot device where the crew/crew member etc. finds their way back to the "prime-universe" although a slightly alternate version (with a point of divergence a few days prior to Nero's time travel from 2387) where Spock stopped the supernova and saved Romulus. Said universe does not contain the incursion of Nero into the 23rd century so everything played out as it did originally.

    Sorry if I didn't articulate it properly.

  • I think its looks quite nice really. In terms of practicality it looks fairly well designed. That is the only thing that matters for a ship at the end of the day.

  • I like how this Enterprise looks both familliar and alien at the same time. I checked out the supposed specs for this ship on memory alpha and its insane - this ship is 2 Miles long! To put it in to perspective it as long as 3 Sovereign class ships, its literally its own little city. Its propulsion is so advanced that its exploring other "galaxies".

    If starship design follows car design, boat design, and airplane design trends... they gradually get LARGER, UGLIER, and MORE PACKED WITH PEOPLE.

    So the bridge crew might finally get those seatbelts, but they're also located in the middle of economy class. The Enterprise J would have a total population of a million, most of them paid passengers to offset the cost of building the goddman thing!

  • in the time of enterprise j they dint use warp drive . tng last episode 25years infuture they had 3 warp nacelles , then seven of nine goes on starship relativity that dint have warp nacelles or drive atleast couple centuries. like 26th century ship of rassmussen that fake guy from future but really from 22nd cen. no warp nacelles by time of enterprise j

  • The Enterprise-J would have a kind of Super Warp Drive . it would cruise around the Galaxy at around 11,000 Times the Speed of Light and Higher. It would be as far above the Original Enterprise as one of Today's 747s would be above a DC-3 from the 1940s.

    I have to disagree with you. I like it and I find it unique, very futuristic, and different than the other Enterprises. You just can't accept it's uniqueness or it's beauty. Even though the Constitution (refit and alternate 2009), Galaxy, Sovereign class Enterprise will always be my favorites. Of course I love the NX class (basically Starfleet's old Akira class design) as well.

  • @TheChrisManChan You should have seen some of the concept drawings made for the new Enterprise that was created for STTMT. Had those drawings come to fruition ST would have never past the first movie.

  • this thing aparently from what iv been heard from its designer has two differnt desighns the enterprise f and the military grade enterprise whare its slightly smaller and carrys point defence turrets. (cus of its huge size it has problems with fighters. aparentyl its not as fast as the soverin but its got the best warp drive

  • The weird thing with the lights is almost all of those windows would have to be enormous skylights because of the curve of the saucer is so little. Of course, the creators description actually mentioned it having parks, so they might be in several of those locations.

  • This sucker is around 2 miles long according to the ST wiki. I hated the design initially. But, after reading that it is a multi-generational ship to explore other galaxies the design makes sense. The ship is not a Ferrari like my beloved Ncc1701-E. considering the size and population, I can't see it being a combat ship.

    Next Generation ( Picard ) evolved the standard of Star Trek franchise.

    Deep Space 9 and Voyager were both baked on the recipe of TNG, and both were the same century.

    Enterprise was awesome in my opinion.

    The new show would be perfect if it followed Enterprise J in 26th century. Make it happen !

  • @encoresxz, we probably won't see another star trek series, ever. The whole underlying message is quaint and irrelevant these days. The "star trek future" is predicated on two things that don't seem like they're ever going to happen: easy, rapid interstellar travel and an enlightened human civilization that can solve all of its problems through technological means, without tradeoff.

    We've seen enough of "the future" so far to know that both of those are jokes.

    You can see the continuity in design thread despite new elements added.

    I can recognize it as a Starfleet innovation and have come to admire her lines curves as much as the D's. To be honest, the D struck me as a big "huh?" back in '87, though she grew on me too. As Spock was so fond of reminding us, "There are infinite possibilities," and this obviously rings true for design.

    Say, I wonder what the J would look like in the alternate timeline!?

  • I am an avid star trek fan and a lover of all enterprise ships(especially the ENT-D) BUT this Enterprise is god awful ugly!!!!! The last best Enterprise was the D!!

  • I think all true Star Trek fans are dying to see more of this ship. We know nothing about it besides what it looks like and even then this video could be wrong on some parts of the design.

    A new ST series based around this ship would be fuckin' awesome.

  • @Vicious713 Its a 29th century ship hence the look of it, it comes from the same time frame as the USS relativity which is a federation time ship, now that thing looks alien.

  • @bldude2 I would imagine the reason why is in the 29th century star trek universe humans are able to jump in and out of the space time exsistance.Ship design would therefore have to radically change.

  • @bitrzo Well, Federation technology is a hybrid of the expertise of over a hundred races pooling everything they've learned over thousands of years. ENT established that the traditional "saucer-nacelle" configuration is human in origin but eventually became Starfleet standard, so I wouldn't be surprised to find that ships designed using more input from other Federation members would have a much less "typical" Starfleet form. Oh, and don't forget that LEGO brick Holoship from "Insurrection."

  • I am glad I am finally not in the minority. This design just doesn't work for me either. I think of the Kaminoans of Star Wars with their fragile, long blue thin extremities running the ship and making clones where the holodeck should be.

  • It seems it goes like this. "We're going to put the deflector on the front of the ship because that's the most logical place to put it. No engineering section exists. Later ships this will evolve to the main deflector on the engineering section. Until 600 years later, then they'll suddenly be put back on the front of the saucer in a throwback to the NX Enterprise. Sorry, no, show failed enuf, don't need you telling us the designs were reused.

    Even Voyager's saucer deflector was only a backup.

  • I think the designer was a little too anamored with the NX Enterprise. Yes, having the deflector on the main saucer section is fine for an "early" ship, where there is no engineering section. But not on a ship CENTURIES LATER.

  • The ent-J is too thin for my taste. I would have to see it in action. The artist who created ENT-J knew little to nothing about star trek, so we can't hold that against him too much.

  • There were a lot of haters when Ent-D first came along, but the show was good and everyone learned to love and appreciate the design and function of the ship.

    With a good cast, crew and popularity of a new trek series everyone would rave about how awesome Ent-J is. Unfortunately a TV trek series like TNG may never happen again.

  • Sovereign Class is where the sexy is at. Can't say I've seen anyone design a better looking ship than the Enterprise E.

    Only thing I don't like about the Sovereign class are their bridges. Too militant. I love those spacious Galaxy class bridges.
