Death Metal is catagorized as such usually because of the band's/song's very low, growly vocals, often times pig squealing (bree), and very fast tempo. Black Metal is as such because of the often times satanic quality of the lyrics, as well as low growling, and high pitched raspy vocals, and there is almost always symphonic sounds, as well as synth machines. Melodic Death metal is pretty simple really, it's the same low growling vocals, but the music isn't as abstract, there's a set tempo.

@vanoverschelde666 sorry a mix up, COF didnt have no viking metal songs. i was thinking of someone else that screwed up. cradle has such a good mixture of genres int heir sounds it makes them good but they just messed up at the end atleast cradle of filth tried their best to to become unique, no one can hold that against them. believe it or not, black metal is getting old, and the fan following is dying. something new has to be done. thats what alot of taiwanese back metal bands are doing
