its sad that the rock guitar gods of our time, (70's and 80's) are delegated to playing to 500 person audiences at clubs in santa clara, although it is nice to be so up close and personal..... schenker, trower, travers et al...
Rock bottom is the ultimate heavy metal song of all time!!!!!!! The solo on strangers in the night is for sure one of the greatest guitar solos in the history of heavy metal. schenker is like fine wine-he gets better with age as i saw him live in nyc last month and proved that he ranks among the greatest heavymetal guitar players of all time.
part 2 is on here,i got it,yes,Michael is the greatest ever-learn from him and surpass him. CARRY ON - KILL THE CRAP THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS FEEDING US !!!!
How come the young punks today dont get how great someone like MS Is on guitar.I hear it all the time how good Nickleback is. I bought the cd, MS has more talent in one finger than that whole band .Its like they dont know what a real solo is.
Exactly, noone makes good solos anymore. Not because they don't want to, but just because they can't. It's true, a good solo finishes a good rock song, and the new bands know it. I just think it's really sad that a 15 year old kid, like me, have to listen to that shit everywhere. School, radio etc. All shitty pop songs, with not good riffs, no good solos..
turn off the radio.........it's shit! Find your own music. There is so much more variety out there now then in the days these guys rocked out. You got it made. Enjoy your young life, and go find the good shit. It's everywhere! Peace...
I never listen to the radio, other than in school and places like that. I'd never turn on that shit, as I said, I hate new pop, rap-crap bullshit music.
wow. I though that was Rudolph with his hair, but then i noticed that it was a Dean V and Rudolph only plays Gibson. He looks exactlty like his brother
I've looked at their website & they look like they're really nice guitars. They use all the best materials and seem to be well made. But yea, it's almost like seeing one makes you wonder which end is the body & which end is the headstock. They look like Siamese V twins, joined at the head. Headstock is just way too big.
Fantastic! Thank you. Am actually listening to Angel of Avalon while writing. :) Saw MSG on last year's ill-fated UK tour, at Frome. MS was certainly not sober, but played as well as he could. Met him briefly - he's a nice man, very sincere. Thank God he's got his act together again now. The Tales... album is superb, and now, with Barden back, we could see MSG headlining Reading again. :)
PS Great write-up to the right, but what about Lost Horizons?
Saw him in The Boom Boom Club in Sutton last night. Small hall for a legend with a sell out of about 300 but he was top class. He looked like he was enjoying himself and to see such a legend was a privilege and a far better experience than when I saw him supporting Scorpions last year
Amazing wasnt it, surreal when he did Doctor Doctor and I'm thinking 'hold on Schenker is doing the opening riff to Doctor Doctor in a hut in Sutton'. I was so impressed I'm going to see him in Brighton on 5 Feb
I looked at my mates agog when he started 'Natural Thing'(also Rock Bottom,Lights Out) .to all classic rock fans it's a must see tour,If it was'nt for work commitments i would be straight down the old M23 on feb 5th.
Does anyone still need some X-mas money? I registered at Betfairpoker com, entered the BUTLER Promotion Code and received a staggering $ 1000 for free!!! That´s gonna make great gifts for my girlfriend this year ;)
And even before MSG, listen to his "Rock Bottom" solo on the UFO album "Strangers in the Night". And while you're there listen to "This Kids", "Love to Love", and of course "Lights Out".
I agree, 'Strangers' to me, is his BEST playing, in fact his 'UFO' stuff does it for me ........ also check out 'Contraband' playing 'All The Way From Memphis' ( Schenkers solos are SCORCHING !!!! )
Michael Schenker is a true rock LEGEND (for the kiddies reading this)! 'Back in the day', he was highly revered for his technical and highly expressive hard rock playing (just listen to his beyond awesome first solo release titled 'MSG'), and was held in high esteem with greats like Page, Lifeson, Iommi, Uli Roth, etc. Saw him live at 'The Chance' in upstate NY for that first solo tour... i'll never forget it! LONG LIVE THE WORLD CLASS MICHAEL SCHENKER!
Malmsteen I must add is amazing have been a Schenker fan for over 20 years but this guy is sliding down the pan..he does need help..but hasn't he for a long time? so what if hes an alcoholic its about time he took responsibility before he completely messes up, regards AP
Yes he needs help, on this vid he plays like a god, as we all know he can plays, but even a legend has some fragility, Michael is fragile and needs his true fans on his side !
I have just seen Michael play twice in the last 5 days.Once in R&B Show Pentrich UK and second at Hammersmith London. Unfortuanely he let his fans down big time. He could barely stand in Pentrich and could not reach the right notes & only managed to get the chords in tune! London was marginally better but they only let him play for 25 minutes!
I wish his close friends would help him get into rehab. Like any alcaholic out there they need all the support they can get!
I saw UFO a couple of weeks ago, though Vinnie Moore does a sterling job on Rock Bottom, it just didn't feel the same without Schenker up there doing it.
Thanks for posting this. Somehow Schenker is like the Bobby Fischer of the guitar world. I like to think of him from his days in UFO when he was brilliant, unjaded, and pristine. That seems gone forever unfortunately.
One of the all time greats, just grab the album Obsession or any other album, and you will hear some of the greatest melodic phrasing, vibrato ever.I like Satriani and alot of the "newer" guitar players too,but theirs only a hand full of rock guitarists who are in that special place in history and Schenker makes that list in my opinion.I could care less how he plays now. When he was in his prime he was brilliant.
Schenker is brilliant and what most younger guitar players don't realize is that guys like Satch, Slash, and others have ripped off his tone, style, and phrasing. Shenker is god!
we have. . . saw j.s. on G3 tour (reno nv and concord,ca gigs) + other dates with deep purple etc... am bored with all that surfin wit the alien crp. . . thanx neway lol. . . late wshsbro ! :)
dude we have listened to Joe, I prefer Vai and kirk his student, I think the student are way better. Oh by the way Satch Boogie was a total copy of schenkers solo on Ulcer.

As far as vibrato, you guys really haven't listened to Glen Tipton (Priest) very much, I take it. Probably because he's not the only guitarist.
