This video used to freak me the hell out when I was a kid! I think it had something to do with the way the tree looked as though it was engulfing the little boy when he was trying to get the coconut. I thought he was going to be stuck up there forever or something. At least that's the way my wacky kid brain perceived it.
How the hell can that kid climb coconut trees? He makes it look so easy? I think I remember seeing this as a kid and trying to climb the coconut tree in my back yard. A coconut tree doesn't have any grips. By the way there used to be a guy that my father hired to climb our coconut tree to pick coconuts for us.
That kid could have been killed or injured at least 3 times in it: by falling from the tree, jamming his hand onto the spike while trying to remove the coconut's outer husk, and slicing his foot off while using the machete to open the inner nut. And what if some kid tried to imitate the film, & maimed himself for life?
Honestly, it's a miracle we all lived to grow up, after seeing things like this over & over on our "Sesame Street".
Um, the first line was a tip-off that this was SARCASM.
"Sesame Street" has become hopelessly sanitized, as "negative" characters like Don Music and the Baker were removed because they supposedly caused kids to bash their heads on pianos in frustration, or throw themselves down the stairs---supposedly imitating what they saw on "Sesame Street". As a result, unless something is completely "safe", it won't appear on "Sesame Street". And that means that today's kids are missing out on a lot.
To this day I don't truly feel like I am on vacation unless there are coconut palms there.

They wouldn't DARE show this film today!

I'll bet you'd do it if you lived there and had the job of collecting coconuts.
