@damonblur27 oh my, that was Graham's decision to leave the band first of all. Then it was Damon's choice to involve Simon Tong, who is an extremely talented musician. And yes, Simon didn't claim Coxon's place in the band at all, so there's no need to blame him or something.
Amazing. Does anyone know what gear they're using? Particularly that synth (not the microkorg, the strings), and how they're getting their guitar tones? Amps? Pedals?
I don't exactly agree with this. Yes, Damon renounced Britpop even before Britpop killed itself, but in many interviews, he has stated that For Tomorrow is one of the songs he is most proud of writing and that it shall always remain timeless to him. The story behind it is really great too, pick up Britpop! by John Harris if you can, an interesting read on Blur, Britpop, and British Music in the 90's.
I agree too, this is one of blur's best songs. But in the CD he sounds with more feeling, the beat is a little faster and has distortion. This sounds like unpplugged. I can't find any "for tomorrow" that is not acoustic.
That is because it was the studio version, as opposed to live, where many times it's just Damon and Graham doing it in the pre-2003 Blur lineup. I've seen tons of electric "For Tomorrow" videos, some have disappeared, some are still here and you just have to dig for them. Studio will always sound different than live, especially considering it was from ten years before this performance. "For Tomorrow" was always sort of meant to be that sentimental guy-singing his heart out song, i.e. acoustic.
I can see why you would get the impression that he doesn't really wanna be there, but remember that this is post-Graham and I believe one of the very last live performances by what remained of Blur. I somehow doubt I would seem that upbeat knowing that a 14/15-year journey was about to end!
If you can check out the live version with just Damon and Graham, absolutely incredible

watching this performance it's clear to see how much graham contributed to blur
as much as I love hearing damon sing this again it's just pitiful without coxon

A pretty dismal atmosphere without Graham and it seems Damon was feeling it and just trudging along....:~( Anyway, thanks for the upload!
