after that we played it for 6 hours straight and it was one of the best experiences in gaming history for me..such a awesome start for the series and even better games after it

I actually enjoyed the demo of this game more than the actual game, because of the time limit.The most fun was trying to complete as many missions as possible before the time limit ran out. It increased the excitement dramatically when you have to do everything as fast as possible. I became so good at the game, in the end I could finish almost all the missions. When I got the actual game, it not nearly as exciting anymore because you could just leisurely explore everything and take it real slow.

You can play it! They released GTA1 and GTA2 as a free download! They even made a GTA1 "win.exe" so you could play it under xp/vista.

This was a really great game,in fact it still is.Loved the way you could edit the maps (in a text file) and also you could play the game via the com-port between two computers with a friend.Those who havent played it in its time, have missed a huge experience since this game was a totally new experience (everything is so "alike" nowadays). one great thing about this game is that the cars follow their path, even when they are far out of sight. in GTA3 they just dissapear and get replaced.

If I remember well, there should be mafia in GTA1. In fact first 2 levels of GTA1 are in Liberty City (lvl 3 and 4 are in VIce City and nothing hard to guess - 5 and 6 in San Andreas).

No, it's the 8-bit MS-DOS version. There also was a 32-bit version with truecolor and transparency, but it was too slow while recording the video. The Game Boy Color version was even simpler instead :)
