Brian's death confuses me. Assuming Death's priority is to restore his original plans, here's my train of thought:

1. Rory and Kat (among others) survived the pileup on 180 due to Kim's premonition.

2. Later, Kat lost control of her car; both she and Rory survived the wreck.

3. Brian and the news van arrived because of the wreck.

4. Rory saved Brian's life.

Death's original plan: Kat and Rory dead on 180 => no wreck => no news van => Brian still alive. How did Brian end up on the hit list?

What made the deaths in the first movie scary was the fact that these deaths were actually possible (even if some of them were exaggerated). Most of the deaths in the sequels are just SO exaggerated, it borders on funny then it does scary.
