if they do not block the sun then they will expose for both the sun and the strobe. if they block the strobe they have more control over the light direction and intensity. not to mention they will control the shadows much more.
But their only blocking for the guy not the girl. I would block for both then for less shadows. Did you mean Sun instead of strobe? kinda pointless to use a strobe if your just going to block it.
What I am saying is the girl still has direct sunlight on her and hes in the shade, Is he the only one with the strobe hitting him?
your right i meant block the sun. and honestly i would have to see the final images to know what the point was for sure. maybe he wanted the sun to light her a bit more broadly than him not sure.
Well he's using a Canon 24-105mm IS which is a zoom, and for portraits, it's probably less than Ideal, you want good primes, so Nikon users use the Nikon 50mm f1.8 and Canon users use the 50mm f1.8. These both are about $100 and are extremely sharp, once you get going, you can either get the f1.4 versions, or a 85mm f1.8/1.4. Although the 17-55 f/2.8 or the 70-200 f/2.8 are professional, fast zooms that almost equal the power of a prime, but they're not cheap at over $1000.
Looked like the models were not getting any direction.
