  • You can be the best guitar player in the world, but if you don't have a ounce of creativity all that technical skill just makes you a guitar player and not a musician.

  • xD

  • Wayne <3

  • Create.

  • this is bullshit!!

  • I agree, Alot of people give crap because it's easy, but some of the most famous songs have three cords to them. I love shredding guitars but simple is good too.

  • at 3:59 he is like "fuck you, camera man!" for zooming in on this simple shit, is sounds good so fuck off.

  • lika sambooooodeeee! he has a thick accent (no hate please, i am also asian)

  • This is Static X ok this is not Yngwie Malmsteen, Caccophony, Chris Broderick. The emphasis is not technicality, it's the psycho-science of what sounds good using the most basic elements possible. Shred metal is the opposite of that.

  • In a way i can see why people don't like Static-X, its heavy and tight music, but its very simple and very easy to play aswell, either way i do love their music.

  • The sarcasm is over the top lol.

  • song 4:55?????!?!?!?!?!

  • @DanCasillaskate The Trance Is The Motion.

  • If you can't play power chords and palm mute you need to put the guitar down. THESE GUYS need a lesson lol

  • Even KoЯn guitarists looks better after this

  • @SlavaGen fuck off

  • @jonpguitar no

  • @SlavaGen thanks for responding. by doing so you showed that you were upset by my comment.

  • @jonpguitar Yes, I definitely was.

  • @SlavaGen very good, now fuck off again, i won't take no shit from korn haters.

  • Comment removed

  • @jonpguitar yeah i agree, their new style is hard to get used to. but i have too, since they mean alot to me as a band. yeah and wayne static fucking sucks. sorry for being a bit agressive back then.

  • @SlavaGen yeah seriously.

  • Fucking genius! haha

  • How does he get his hair like that?

  • @RedJesseBull pixie dust and magic.

  • @XxlivEfAstxX1 Amazing answer

  • That guy needs to learn better english if he wants anyone to pay attention to him. I didn't understand a damn thing he said, I guess he speaks with his guitar.

  • sometimes simplicity can be good, alot of bands have very simple songs which do better than their more complicated stuff

  • All you punters bitching and hating ..YOU SELL A F@#K TON OF CD'S ..Then you can talk.

  • he sucks

  • Making music that kicks ass is awesome, but making music that kicks ass AND is easy to play... better.

  • and my personal rant, which is why I started...hahaha

Their stuff is simple, but theres nothing wrong with simple. Rob Zombie uses simple rythms and riffs and that rocks. AC/DC was all simple riffs over mostly 4/4 rock - biggest band in the world...

Sometimes I just wanna chill and nod my head in time... and sometimes I want the faceless technically arranged chaos. Both ahve a place. Dont mock talent. and never assume talent=complexity.

  • cont... 7:09 ..."I mean, this distortion guitar has very dominating, strong sound so thats why yknow its dominate whole music but in our head we pay attention to more hi-hat... Its gotta be..yknow all these sounds have to be arranged pretty well inside the music otherwise all these sounds clashing each other yknow, it doesnt work..."

  • Japanese translations ;-) I can understand him - thanks to living in Japan for over 10 years.

1:12 "And...I use roland groovebox, 505, 808 samplers and... we also use korg electribe..."

4:40 Beginning i mean main riff of "Trance Is the Motion"..its like..."

6:51 "yeah, yknow, seems like our music is very guitar oriented, but in our head its more like...one element of "...(cut off)

  • at least they are honest and f/n sound good

  • push it,... love dump. teach yourself to or three octave guitars blah blah needs nobody to tell you how to play.

  • Wayne looks out of it ;)

  • @ the guy that dissed on Wayne. Actually, a power chord includes two octaves and a harmony. And of course the theory geeks would say it's sad to gain fame without being technical! Creativity reigns supreme ppl!

  • the simplest band on the planet but I like them

  • why does he keep mocking his music by saying its so simple

  • @jon1151 Because it is. Their music is not that complicated. Groove heavy music generally is, repetition and simplicity are important for their style of music.

  • seriously, who liked this video and why?

  • so that's the guy that invented octave playin? everything starts making sense now.

  • I love house simple their music is and how jammable it still is despite the simplicity. Technical guitar playing doesn't always make the music good. My 2 cents

  • What the hell did the chinese guy say?

  • @MartyFriedmanRulez66 He's Japanese, and I have no idea all I got from him was, "...it's kind of in between...".

  • May be simple guitar playing but they made a lot of money doing it and they also had a lot of fun.

  • so THIS is how you play music!!!!!!!!

  • OMFG OCTAVES

    OOOOOOMMMMMMMFFFFFFFGGG

  • simple? hell yea, but the man writes some rockin tunes...

  • wtf the video quality are so bad

  • Do these boobs no there own songs or wat, seem like cool dudes though.I almost feel sympathy 4 them cauz there songs are beyond simple

  • Didnt I here he was Bob Zombies stepbrother or am I way off???

  • @DARRINCONNOR1 Spider One from Powerman 5000 is Rob Zombies brother.

  • @GrindHouse97 Yeah u r rite, new it was sumthin like that.Thanx for the info.

  • Waynes guitar is an ESP, and Koichi's guitar is an Ibanez RG with a reverse headstock.

  • Who's the Asian dude? I've seem them switch between guitarists

  • Did yull hear dey r coming on friday!!!!!!

  • Seems like Mr.Static has never heard of Wes Montgomery

  • octaves, palm mutes, harmonies...theyre so amazed with themselves haha

  • @JasonM2691 lol

  • @JasonM2691 yeah they're just fucking good at what they do ;)

  • @JasonM2691 Man what a dick comment. They say repeatedly how easy this shit is and to not be amazed because it's just foundation. Then you have the audacity to mock them for simplicity and claim they are amazed with themselves. How many bands do you know use two guitars to split notes between the two? Go fuck yourself all 25 of you thumbs up faggots.

  • @JasonM2691 Haha. He seemed pretty humble to me, and kept reiterating the fact that their stuff is simple to play. I personally think the concept of getting rich or famous off of very simple music is ingenious!

  • Wall of Doom.....

  • pauly d doesnt exist. only a 6' pile of shit. and its an ibanez

  • i wanna hd!!

    !!!

  • Dimebag made a wall of crunch all by himself ... just sayin but I hear ya wayne!

  • what about a vocal lesson! this guy sings ridiculously good

  • Ehh...

  • gotta love the people who watch these videos and complain. Creativity outweighs any technical ability. In the music industry if you dont have creativity your a lost cause no matter how much you can shred. Some of the best and heaviest riffs ever written were simple. Guitar should be fun and meant to fit the song. All these people who want to turn everything into a competition are a waste. If you want technical music dont look up static x plain and simple.

  • @18266609 so true, Kirk Hammett learned theory in school and was taught extra technical ability by Joe Satriani but he came up with one of guitar's most simple and well known riffs ("Enter Sandman" for those who don't know)

even some of the greatest lead guitarists like Dime and Zakk amongst others hate pointless shredding if it doesn't suit the song, most of their songs were fairly simple too with no fretboard wankery involved

  • @sgtraytango exactly.(finally someone who knows what theyre talking about). I mean its cool to hear a song with shredding in it and some technical riffs because its interesting at times, but some bands get too carried away with it and end up ruining the song trying to be the center of attention. I just look at it like if i wanna hear technical music i wouldnt go to static x for it and i would never bitch about it on one of their videos because thats not them. Wayne even says it in the video.

  • "breaking up the notes of the chords to two guitars" is called "harmonizing"... lol!

  • SU pinche barba!!! hahahaha

  • It makes me sad to see that someone with almost zero technical guitar ability, or even any shred of theory can become so well known and mainstream. A power chord stretches an octave, that's what it is. It's been around since the birth of guitar Mr. Static.

  • Wayne Static is a musical genuis! Technicality isn't always everything. The other asian guitarist they had in the band was also good, this Koichi dude... He's shit. I can't understand anything he says anyway... And any hater can say what they like, these okes sold millions of albums worldwide, once you've done that, then you can chirp...

  • @MooseboyBrett You do realise Koichi is the only asian guitarist they've had? He was in the original lineup lol.

  • @cyanide02 Lol! Dude! I honestly didn't! Haha! I'm actually reading up now, cause I've seen the music video for The Only and they got that other dude, Tripp Eisen, and I was a little confused... But the Koichi just looks a bit more intellegent with long hair and no mustache! :D

  • @MooseboyBrett haha! easy mistake to be made dude. Yeah Tripp got kicked out because of sleeping with minors or something, it was quite bad lol! It's a shame really because i liked what Tripp brought to the band but they had to do what they had to do lol!

  • @MooseboyBrett Album sales doesn't equal talent lol How many untalented fucks can you name that sell tons of albums because of good marketing and publicity? A LOT! These guys were on TRL for christ's sake, that's why they sold albums. Now they're underground...as in where are they now?

  • @MindstormRecs Wayne is making music and the band is on hiatus. Not really underground if people still know the name of the band and are buying the records.

  • 4:50 is "trans is the motion" (at least thats the chorus. Its badass.

  • 4:54 is awesome, they may not be technical but they are good at what they do!

  • SO HEA Y! Lo e it

  • I like Wayne ( ;

  • its an ibanez no schecters have reverse headstocks any very few have in line tuners

  • Basically, they never bothered learning how to play anything else apart from power chords and palm muting.

  • @SLNightmare I wouldn't go so far as to say that. There are lots of technically skilled guitarists who make it a point to strip things down to very simple aspects and use other tools to make things interesting. Perhaps you're right, but I'm willing to bet Wayne has some chops hiding away in his bag of goodies.

  • @gonzo5648 You're probably right man. Its just painful to see a decent instrument put to such boring use ya know, there's no quirk or innovation to the playing. But yeah, stripping things down to basic components is always interesting in a mix.

  • @SLNightmare I agree with you competly. Nothing wrong with stripped down instruments, but metal is a genre where most people practice their lives away to get to the skill level to play metal. It is not for people of the musical skill level of Kurt Cobain. I hated this era of nu metal because of it's attack on the technicality that metal has always displayed.

  • What's the song they're playing at 4:50?

  • @AceisMe2 Its: The trance is the motion

  • @DamnationEternal Ok, Thank you

  • Thats EXACTLY the thing i like. I don't need a song full of solo's and that kind of stuff, i want to jump around, headbanging and go fucking crazy while playing guitar. I don't want to look at my fingers all the time because the song is too complicated. No. Like Wayne said: Simple, tight stuff.

  • I love the warm sensation in my heart when I hear to their guitars.

  • That's how I write music. I grew up playing music in large groups orchestras etc from age 7 mainly on wind instruments and came to guitar when 16. When you play music in groups from an early age you learn how to put all the instruments in perspective to form the finished sound. So yeah you can have a song where it's not all about the guitar and other instruments can take the fore in the arrangement. I reckon the best songs are the ones that do this, instead of showboating ego mad guitarists

  • woah its amazing how his hair has receded really bad in 2 years

  • Is this video a joke? "I came up with the idea on my own" Yeah, Wes Montgomery was doing octaves 60 years ago. Then the riff they play is the same riff from a Korn song. "We try to keep our riffs very simple" Yeah, so the simple minded wil be impressed. Just another example of the dumbing down going on lately.

  • @paradigm0shift he admits that he doesn't any guitarists he's heard that do that. and they're not impressing anyone, you think that they went to guitar world and said "interview us"? you my good sir are simple minded.

  • Kiochi sucks bad here, but at least he´s got a good taste in guitars.

  • omg Kenji from GTA III!!!

  • @watchillegally Bahahaha

  • LOL obviously english is the dude's second language.

  • @guitardotcomvideos: No problem, found it, its a Ibanez RGR with reverse headstock! ;-)

  • @ 6:44 he says i write it on my drum machine....wat is dat??? or did i hear it wrong?!

  • Lmao that technique you "made on your own" is used by everyone who plays octaves like that lol ....

  • Ditto that clarification

  • koichi looks bored lol

  • @Jamiewaldie1992 - thanks for the clarification

  • you know he has a really un-deep voice. kinda makes you wonder how he can sing like he does

  • @eric6manson - Unfortunately the quality isn't what it should be. It's looks like an Ibanez but could be a Schecter as well. Sorry for the lack of clarity

  • @guitardotcomvideos it is an ibanez. its an RG series

  • @guitardotcomvideos i think its an Ibanez with a reversed headstock

  • @guitardotcomvideos i believe its actually its a fernandez.

  • @guitardotcomvideos Koichi uses Ibanez and Wayne uses ESP and GIbson :)

  • @guitardotcomvideos that's an Ibanez

  • @guitardotcomvideos in the Wisconsin Death Trip era Koichi played Ibanez.

  • @guitardotcomvideos Left Ibanez, right Gibson/epiphone

  • @guitardotcomvideos Definitely an Ibanez. All Schecter's headstocks have 3-on-3 tuner configurations. That is an Ibanez with a reverse headstock.

  • @guitardotcomvideos Looks more like a Schecter yeah

  • 5:20 those harmonics sound alike korn's good god

  • What guitar does koichi playing in this vid?

  • @eric6manson it's an ibanez :)

  • Wayne .. you did not invent octives, calm down.

  • @jamesSHUTUP lmao this shit is funny, what a fucking retarded guitarist

  • Waynes hair is the Pauly D of metal. \m/

  • @EatIt84123 fuck jersey shore

  • @connorgow No thanks. I would probably catch something horrific.

  • @EatIt84123 Yeah like crabs, lol get it? Crabs?

  • @connorgow I think most of the Jersey Shore has blue waffle.

  • good post

  • what happened to koichi !

    he looks lost

  • PINEAPPLE hair Cut..bt static X is FUCKING great!!!

  • ... and your hair cut is fucked up ! i love it :P

  • i love how diverse this band is

  • Simple music that sounds fucken great. and they dont think they are awesome musicians, they just enjoy playing and writing their music, and there a fun band to listen to Live, Makes me wanna head butt things. All you wanks who go on about how thier lazy and not tecnical, who cares go practice your scales and leave me to my wall of crunch

  • Wayne understand the things said koichi

  • If you guys like Static you should definitely check out 9Electric (Wayne sings on one of their songs)

  • I'm not on Guitar.com-I'm on Youtube

  • 4:41 when he plays, its, its just fuckin awesome

  • @TheSooostoned dude chill, im the biggest fucking metal head ever, and im commenting coz im a guitarist as well, and they just seem to have no guitar techniques at all :p but i'll give them credit for their song writing, because obviously they wouldnt be where they are if they wrote shit songs

  • what joke, his hair and beard are both BEYOND AWESOME

  • nobody did a joke bout the hair? lol

  • @hagrazz NOBODY TALKS ABOUT THE HAIR!

  • What's the name of the song of the beginning of the video ? (sorry for my bad english)

  • @HybridSoldier54 Push it

  • @joachimekstrom but where are you now? and look at where they are you fool.

  • are we sure Koichi knows how to play these songs?..lmao

  • Seems like self taught. Good for you guys.

  • Koichi: Hon-ka-gui-ka guitar...

Wayne: What the fuck is he saying...? <3 Static - X

  • are these guys serious? :p

  • buckethead would be a perfect fit in this band

  • there decent, not the best, but got the original tune.

  • wow. there really not that good

  • he's the best guitar player in the world

  • yea, no guitarists play octaves Wayne, lol

  • Sooooo bad..I mean sure you dont have to be flashy to write a good song but this is just ridiculous, why intentionally limit yourself like this?! If I want to listen to insanely simple formulaic songs ill listen to pop music like the Jonas Brothers or something..one of the things I like about metal is the imagination and intricacies of the musicians which this really lacks, lazy lazy guys.

  • @MetalguitarlessonsUK Did you listen to the interview? At all?

  • @MetalguitarlessonsUK i guess ac/dc isnt any better than jonas brothers huh? its about song writing! not to see who can play as many sweeps as they can in four minutes

  • @MetalguitarlessonsUK.... You nailed it dude! I hate overly technical bands but overly simple bands are just as bad or worse.... How do these people give this guy credit for writing a song with two chords??? WTF??? Also anyone who compares Wayne to the mighty Max Cavalera needs his/her head checked!!! Listen to the early sepultura albums and you will hear some skill....

  • God damn they suck at guitar. Really they say that the main vocal point of the band isn't the guitar but really everything else in the band is simplistic and generic as well. The only reason why they don't play other more technically accomplished things has nothing to do with the fact they like it simplistic, they're just to lazy to progress themselves.

  • @mkmoloch

They know how to write catchy shit though, so it really doesn't matter how technical their stuff is.

  • @mkmoloch I applaud Static X for breaking the standard belief that if it's not complicated, it's not good. You can be the most technically gifted guitarist to ever walk the earth, but if you can't write music with emotion and feeling, you're useless.

  • @InaGameComa Yes, In your opinion. See you can't make an opinion on skill because you either are, or are not skilled. You either are, or are not technical. On the other hand opinions vary in regards to song writing, and that is why people listen to multitudes of different genres. You would say that some band sucks at songwriting, but that is just your opinion. Other people out there like the band and their songwriting.

  • @InaGameComa and you would think that static x has emotions and feelings?? they sound like a machine

  • @InaGameComa IM AGREE A LOT

  • @InaGameComa exactly what I think when I watch those chinese child prodigies who can play classical guitar so amazing but competly lack soul and emotion

  • @InaGameComa i love static x and everything, and they were a great band, but this video is really uninformative. they didnt really tell any useful information. No disrespect to Static X tho!

  • @InaGameComa Yes Static X really showed everyone... They lasted like 2 nu metal years, sold max 160,000 copies of any album. Give me a break these guys were weak.
