Got to see Ben and James at their last show on the tour Saturday in Toledo. This was my first time listening to his music. Thought it was very entertaining and I enjoyed the show immensely.

Sitting here on what would've been my mom's 87th Bday...just stumbled upon this interview w/ Ben Taylor...Wow, an amazing son from 2 amazing people. I've always felt that way about my mom (who also wrote poetry that inspired music in my mind as I read her words)... As a musician, Carly Simon & James Taylor were a HUGE influence to me...& still are. Thank you.
My girlfriend and I just saw James and Ben in Grand rapids and it was amazing. While walking to the car after the show a guy asked me for a lighter and I turned around to find Ben. Talked to him for a few and he was cool as hell and did a wonderful job at the show. I didn't have a pen so he signed my ticket BT with his thumb nail which is way more cooler than an autograph. Also got our pics taken with both of them. Greatest moment in my life.

I got a LP of "Come Upstairs", and I came to the realization through reading the liner, that the split in Carly and James relationship began after she recorded "Jesse". Because "James" and thereafter are void of James Taylor's involvement. Whereas side one has him involved in places, it seems. And the whole side two is about pain.. Obvious James left her for another, and Carly wrote the song "Take me for the Woman I Am". I can relate my parent divorced about the same time, but my mom left.

Ben didn't choose his parents and I'm sure it's also a curse to the son or daughter of someone famous. It is so difficult to come out of the shadow of John Lennon, James Taylor, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan etc.
Ben came into the bike shop where I work as a mechanic and bought a beach cruiser type bike. While I was dusting the bike off and topping off the air pressure in the tires he was out in the show room checking out the different bells on display.
He picked out half a dozen different bells and wanted them mounted on the handle bar in a very specific order.
No, it was only 3 years ago at most that this happened and it was a big black beach cruiser with a fake gas tank on the top tube and a springer fork on the front end.

Having been an avid fan of Carly Simon for about 30 years (reflective of her music writing and singing abilities and character), I bought Ben's initial CD ("Famous Among the Barns" admittedly due to the family tie. But his "Another Run Around the Sun" is so impressive and well performed for a new songwriter/singer in a individual style that I play it often and hardly think about who his parents are due to his talent.
He's being very kind now about his dad, especially when the reality is that "dad" wasn't around for many, many year - dealing with his own heroin addiciton.

I got a LP of "Come Upstairs", and I came to the realization through reading the liner, that the split in Carly and James relationship began after she recorded "Jesse". Because "James" and thereafter are void of James Taylor's involvement. Whereas side one has him involved in places, it seems. And the whole side two is about pain.. Obvious James left her for another, and Carly wrote the song "Take me for the Woman I Am". I can relate my parent divorced about the same time, but my mom left.

There are hundreds of BenTaylor with the same talent rotting in basements all over the world. They will never be discovered; It does HELP to be the son of Carly Simon and James Taylor. I am not taking anything away from him, he's talented and all, but I want to stress that point. There are hundreds like him in the US alone, and they all worship their parents too, but won't be discovered because their parents are not famous musicians.

Ben came into the bike shop where I work as a mechanic and bought a beach cruiser type bike. While I was dusting the bike off and topping off the air pressure in the tires he was out in the show room checking out the different bells on display.
He picked out half a dozen different bells and wanted them mounted on the handle bar in a very specific order.
Then he started playing music with those bells.
That was a first for me.......(-;

No, it was only 3 years ago at most that this happened and it was a big black beach cruiser with a fake gas tank on the top tube and a springer fork on the front end.

Having been an avid fan of Carly Simon for about 30 years (reflective of her music writing and singing abilities and character), I bought Ben's initial CD ("Famous Among the Barns" admittedly due to the family tie. But his "Another Run Around the Sun" is so impressive and well performed for a new songwriter/singer in a individual style that I play it often and hardly think about who his parents are due to his talent.
