People really compared this song to 'If She Knew What She Wants'; there are similarities, but the difference between Michael's voice and Susanna's set it apart. Memorable; teen angst captured very well here...
She was actually born in 1955. She had a nice personality when i met them. I talked to her and Vicki and when Vicki heard I was from Kalamazoo Mi. She told me Kalamazoo is a rock & roll holy land. Was the birth place of her Gibson...I had to tell her the sad story that Gibson moved to Nashville. She said its sad isn't it.
I was expecting an actual music video when I got this video started, and then went to watch television. I get back to the computer and its just the song. Did the band do an official music video of this song? Which usually had to be done if you wanted to get anywhere in the business or get the song onto VH1. I think the video's author should delete the messages from this page that denigrate these beautiful & talented ladies - which the Bangles were. I've got several of their record albums.
Taranau --that fellow's just some bored entity trying to wind you up for sick fun. Don't let him get to you.
Anyway, thank you for sharing your memories of Micki. It's a very different picture to the self-loathing moody girl usually depicted in the press. I wish I could get meet her, but oh well....
She may have changed since I met her,but I've seen videos of her with the Bangles(1)where they're in the back of a van and (2)at an old gas station---where they're just hanging out jamming. Those are Micki moments...What I gathered from the press about the Bangles was, that she really didn't like life on the road,or the politics of the music business.
I think her reticence owes a lot to her being the eldest of the group-- if someone had to play the role of the sensible, mature member, it had to be her.
SWEEEEEEEEET!!! In all the world you are the only person who posted this wonderful song! You are awesome! Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you! :)
Yeah, Michael's not really easy on the eyes but she's definitely talented. I love track 4 on the Everything album, shit, I can't remember the name of it...mind fart. But usually their songs are written by Susanna and Vicki together.
k I just got my Everything CD out and it's called Something to Believe In. If you love Michael's songs, you'll LOVE this one! I wonder if it's on here?
It was in the mid-70's.I'd just found two doobies on the sidewalk.A beautifull woman walked up to me and asked if I had any doobies. Her name was Micki. We hopped in her car and drove somewhere. Not sure where,it was her car,she drove and we smoked one of my doobies. We got to where her band was rehearsing and she introduced me to her friends Joan and Sandy. We hung out for four days and then they went on tour to become rich and world famous.Haven't seen her in person since.
The strongest impression I've been left with over the years is,that she finds her greatest moments in the music itself. If all she'd ever done was hang out with friends and jammed, just to be jamming, she'd've been perfectly happy.
Just as neither Paul nor John was the Lead Singer; so neither was Susanna.I've seen her say so in interviews. The pop-media always needs to pick a favorite. Doing so helped break the group up. The harder they struggled against the pop-media sterotyping, the worse it got. It was good to see them come out with Doll Revolution. It's a flying finger in the pop-media face.
As you probably know, "Complicated Girl" was written by Michael Steele, who would probably be best described as the "George" of the Bangles. She didn't get many songs on their albums, but when she did, they were usually good.
why DO our eyes follow her the way do?it's not something I can point to,but I can always tell when I'm listening to her voice.sometimes Vickie fools me though.
Love the song. People need to buy those albums and learn what the Bangles really were about. Every time I hear someone call Susanna the lead singer I know that they never bought a single Bangles album. I enjoyed singing along to that song. Its been a while since I've heard it. Man, that was a good album. I need to go buy a new copy.

That intro is pure '80s- you can listen to the first 10 seconds of this song and know instantly when it's from!
On the other hand, it's a really great and underrated song, and I'm surprised they don't do it live more often!

Your eyes must see a different Micki than I do.She's way cuter than the Bangles---and most of the Runaways, too.

Well, to each their own! I just prefer Susanna - I've wanted to look like her since I was three years old. ;)

Susie's cute too.Maybe I'm biased by having met Michael, way back a long time ago.

When was that, Taranau? Some people should be so lucky.
Is she, as they say, more beautiful than her photographs?

Show me a woman who isn't complicated and I'll show you a nun. I'm 45, single, never married and glad I didn't make the big mistake.

Women are complicated. I'd rather make love to a steel beam. There would be more warmth involved.
headley62 4 years ago
Women complicated? That must be the all time understatement. The only thing they seem to like about men are their shoes sometimes.
