The Holy River" "bouquet of Roses" and "You Never Got to Sing My Songs"
These are on my acoustic series, "Guitar Songs Vol.4 "You Never Got To Sing My Songs." These are not cover songs. They're 20 of my own songs to show how I was influenced by Miller.
Wow, great song! I discovered it through Pandora when listening to my Roger Miller station. I must admit, you have talent! Do you tour the country at all? Where are you located? How did you start yodeling?
Thanks. I didn't realize that Pandora was still broadcasting some of my songs. I wrote this song back in '78 and recorded it sometime in the mid-1980s.
Look in the "more Info" for links to my [freewebs] a detailed biography & discography.
I'm going to look up some of your other songs on Pandora. Question, when you did your tribute to Roger Miller, why didn't you sing "Hard Headed Me" or his classic "King of the Road"?
You are somethin' else there, cowboy. I think you & I might've got swapped at birth. I can't yodel to save my life, but I do love it, and you do got it! More power to ya. God bless.
Nah. Thanks for the encouragement, but I'm pretty sure I've tried my hardest & can't do it. Anyway, I keep coming back to this. This is not just great yodelling, but a great song. Thanks, bro. I'm going to tell my friends. Unhappily, I ain't got many. But I do prefer quality over quantity. :-)
Try using the words "your old lady" and extend it as you go. If you really like yodeling, be sure and check out some of my fantastic yodeling friends posted on my Youtube page. I've got at least a dozen of them posted. McDonald Craig, Janet McBride, Donna Hyland, Rick McWilliams, Joyce Leonard, Buzz Geortzen, Greta Eklin, Randy Erwin, and a yodeling duet with me and Mike Preston, to mention a few.
sorry Mike as i remember that day was very hot almost 9 years ago, i also love Mc Donald Craig first met him 1985 in the Mississippi another great Jimmy Rodgers singer yodeller .hope to met you someday Mike along the way in the meantime keep on yodelling your Irish friend Greta
yes Mike it is i dont think i ve ever met you but i enjoy your singing and yodelling also i go into utube and watch your videos . yes i know you put me on the Sonny Rodgers yodellers show iat Bob Everharts festival i just want to say a big thank you Mike.keep safe and keep on yodelling Greta
Well howdy. That's where I met you. In the back of the stage where all of Sonny's yodelers were waiting to perform. Good to know you're well and still yodeling. Keep up the good work yourself.
Depends on where you go. Check out some of the Independent country music festivals in the south and mid-west.
You can also see some of those fantastic yodelers scattered throughout my Channel. Janet McBride, McDonald Craig, Ben Steneker, Donah Hyland, KG & the Ranger, Buzz Goertzen, and many others.
Thanks. Check out some of my many yodeling friends on my Channel. McDonald Craig, Janet McBride, Donna Hyland, Buzz Goertzen, Joyce Leonard, and many more.
Awesome, yodelin' Mike. Great job! I wished there was more black country singers/yodelers. Awesome talent! If some listened to you, then maybe they'll take it up. Great!!
Thanks. Check out a copy of "My Country, The African Diaspora's Country Music Heritage" by Pamela E. Foster. [ISBN-0-9662680-1-6]Pam is an award-winning African American Journalist who spent years researching information for this 370-page anthology on African American involvement in Country Music. The key word being "involvement" and not "influence" as is so often referenced. The discography alone is priceless. I'm on page 146. [shameless self-promotion]
I'll continue about the song "Cowboy Hat." I was away from Country Music for many years, but an Eskimo friend, Henry Shavings, got me yodeling again, thus the line in the song.
Good job! And thanks for your comment regarding my 60/40 song "Cowboy Hat". I've written several other yodel songs - one I'm sure you'd like but I haven't recorded it yet. It's one that takes me back to my youth - a bit like yours - Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and of course Jimmy Rogers. I began listening to Jimmy as a youth & really took to Hank Williams. The song's called "I always wanted to be a Cowboy".
Sorry about that pardner. My apologies. You also have to understand that Black Yodelers are rare, and Mike has had his share of skeptics over the years who don't really know their American music history. Korean War Veteran, McDonald Craig, is the only black yodeler to win 1st. Place at the annual [1976] Jimmie Rodgers Yodeling Championship in Meridian, Mississippi. Most black yodelers had their heyday during the Minstrel-Stringband era. Type "America's Blue Yodel" in your search engine.
