Good musicians definitely have there input in expression and in the best cases we can have previous rehearsals without sync to get the best of the score's emotions. But let's be realistic, money is ALWAYS a big issue.
As he said - the biggest purpose here was to maintain strict tempo in order to synchronise the orchestral soundtrack with the film - which also saves money I guess for the company employing the orchestra. In the worst case scenario those professional musicians will add the natural elements of musicianship so the works will certainly not be devoid of emotive playing.
I found your tutorial intresting, but very ridged and mathematical, surely conducting should be expressing raw emotion to the orchestra so that they have an idea of the emotion of the piece that you depict, but as i've always found, we always - either as a musician or as a member of the audience have our own acoustic preferance to the piece. But however i find it really intresting and inspiring to see infomation on conducting, i wish i could read music and play at the same time. S J Ireland.

Sight-reading is an acquired skill, not a God-given ability.
If you practise it seriously on your instrument every day, you will eventually become good!
