Partially senile octogenarians can operate today's browsers and OSs. Surfing the web requires less brain power than programming a VCR. People are addicted to buying and using consumer products. They haven't a clue how to create or repair any of these products. Unless you're programming, you're just another bonehead consumer like everyone else. "Generation Y" consumers are no more tech savvy or evolved than their grandparents. They're just accustom to buying increasingly user-friendly products
I deal my reel-to-reel tapes by playing them.. and when a side is played, i flip the reels over and play it again. That same method I use for vinyls and even C-tapes. It ain't that hard. Those things don't have DRM or such, so i can play those over and over again, even lend those to my friends, and heck, I can even copy those tapes!
My question is... How do YOU deal with NEW technology? :D
i have over 200 vhs tapes alone. I still like them. I deal with it easily. my computer has a TURBO FEATURE! granted its AMD hexacore but still when was the last time you seen a computer with that!
i keep it because in the future i regret selling them because thats what i usually do like my n64, i only had a couple games and i want to play them but i sold it. keep ur old technology unless its something useless
Earphones rule! And old stuff is much more reliable than new technology. And what are you really getting out of new technology? You still rewind when you want to watch a little while back; all you're really proving is how impatient you are. I mean, does it really take that long to re wind a tape?
I appreciate early technology, THAT'S how I deal with it.
You are a complete idiot and need to get a life, it is old technology but is good technology that will probably not be replaced anytime soon. All technology does is take away jobs and turns people into nerds like you. Really technology hasn't changed much either, so you just made this video for no reason. Shame on you.
2010 13years old and yet i still dont mind antenna and tvs that dont break when you punch them of course now antennas are quite diferent and i use cable
54 yrs old and still repairing beta and vhs decks for people. Some I am converting VHS and Beta to CD and DVD although those are technically old tech. Only reason I am into any of this technology is to make money with it. I still use antenna for over the air, listen to AM and FM radio in my service van and I still run a CB radio on the interstate just to listen to what that truckers are talking about. I also have one analog POTS rotary dial phone, and it works just fine with the newer ones.
Only reason I have a cellphone at all is for business use otherwise I'd be untethered to that stupid thing. Just voice, no data or text. Texting instead of voice is like ditching phones to go back to telegraph. No attachement to some crooked cable company to watch TV, no paying to listen to radio in my vehicle. If I wasnt making a living on technology stuff I probably wouldnt have broadband either, dialup worked fine for email and occasional browsing. I have customers with dialup yet as well.
VCR are better than DVD because you can STOP it and then come back and watch again where you left it. You can also SKIP ANYTHING and there is no thing that are unskippable.
I find my self helping people that are older with new technology but the truth is i dont mind i'm a nice guy and i find it interesting and i learn new ways of using technology by helping others deal with technology everday
did you see how the huge speed frame rate format looks ood? that is because we dont see that way, 24 frames per second is enough because is the way our brain proce what we see, did you notice how regular non HD stuff looks like this video in your fancy TV? notice how the new TV have a lower life of use?
man when i was a lil kid we had sega and nintendo 64. then we got a ps1 and i felt like a god! i could move a lil dude on a board with wheels and do flippys with it. (thps)
Hey, 20 year old tech is actually really interesting. And mind you this is coming from a 14 year old. Yep a 14 year old who loves the IBM PC AT. And enjoys using windows 3,0 (not 3.1).
You know whats funny Chris? I have bot 3 flat screen TV's in the last 4 years they all broke good brand to, And now i am very happy using my 13" Toshiba tube style tv with a VHS player built in
I wouldn't count out antenna just yet. OTA digital HD still sets the benchmark for broadcast HDTV quality. The only subscription TV service that comes close is Verizon Fios, but even then we're only talking about video quality as OTA surround sound quality is noticeably superior if you have an above average audio setup.
My grandad can use an old casio personal organiser to store numbers with a querty keyboard yet cant access the phonebook in his mobile phone. I just got my mum a sat nav and you can play mp3s with 2GB memory on it yet she still insists on putting horrible WMA CDs in her car. I even set up bluetooth so she can make and recieve calls on the GPS yet still pulls over and uses the phone. It annoys the shit outa me.
Old people and even my parents just dont like to embrace technology. Its funny how old analogue devices which were often more complicated (e.g VCR and Cassete tape recorder) they can work fine. For instance they can record music from the radio having to use a more complicated procedure than putting a cd into a PC and clicking burn. Or they can record VHS tapes by having to set a timer yet they cant use Sky +/Tivo properley.
I still have CRT tvs, I have my ps3 hooked up via RGB which is as close as im gonna get to HD for now as Im saving for a car and HDTVs are gonna get cheaper and cheaper. Plus im waiting for 1080p to be the standard. I remeber going to an old peoples home like 4 year ago and listening to their conversation about how great CDs were, that you could put one in the machine and you would have 20 songs!. I was thinking you can put 2000 songs on something the size of a cig lighter.
my nan's computer is running windows 95. GROAN!! and she has a 14" boxy tv. but in my house i have a computer with windows xp. (good) and a 50" tv. mi nans is like returning to the 1990's
lcds and plasma tv`s make my eyes hurt.and the new dtv signal will not come in if there is a bolt of lighting within 100 miles.i miss the old days of vcrs cassete tapes and carberaters.
Old tech is ok. I mean a tv with an antenna is a tv all the same. It's better than no tv. Although I hate dial-up you had to use it when no one was on the phone and it was super slow. On my old computer it had an internal speaker and if someone was on the phone when I was connecting to AOL I could hear their conversation. It was kind of funny.
I am currently writing this post from a 350mHz / 256 RAM computer I found thrown away in the trash. I never spent a penny, but I restored it using the original 8 GB hard drive to these specs:
* Windows 2000 (stripped down of excess services)
* USB wireless Internet antenna for DSL
* Opera 10 browser (with ads blocked and Turbo feature)
* Over 68 Windows Updates from MS
* Office 97, but I use Google Docs which is fast!
* Avira anti virus
* SpeedBit Video Accelerator to watch YouTube vids
my parents are sort of up to date, they have ps3 (hell, I don't even have one) and my mom (who's 63 I might add) plays GTA and has solved it a few times, they have networked computers, the ONLY bad thing about going to their house is they have sat. interent, though not by choice (they REALLY want cable) but it's the best they can do with where they're located.
Old technology can sometimes fill the unfulfilled voids in your life. For example, when I was a kid, I wanted an Atari 7800 like my friend had. I never got one. But 25 years later, I bought a used one on Ebay and my Inner Child was vindicated. I played Donkey Kong into the wee hours of the night. I shed a single manly tear and then moved on.
@TruthandJustice101 I agree. I went to my cousins house and he still has the original SEGA Genesis with Kid Chameleon. He let me play it and it brought out the inner kid in me. I remembered when I used to play that game for hours trying to reach the last level,
I still have a tv like, agreed its in my kitchen and we rarely watch it due to having a HD tv in the lounge and another in the play room(xbox woop) but we still use it but its not on an antenna just connected to our virgin box!
Old technology is often like an old whore = if you're low on funds, it gets the basic job done in a pinch. Plus, even though you know you can do better and you really don't have the patience, you can be assured that nobody has to know.
I can somewhat imagine how I am going to explain 80s and 90s 30 years from now. "This is called a sony walkman, you put a CD into it and music comes out from it. Oh, you don't know what a CD is?"
I predict that one day we will be able to scan "virtual newspapers" on our Personal Computation Machines. I also predict that we will also be able to access and view VIDEO information over a high-speed "Super Information Highway".
People say I'm crazy, but you'll all see! It will happen one day!
LOL. Yeah, and I bet everyone will call their Personal Computational Machines PC's, and their fancy "video information will be like You-Tube or something stupid like that. >.>
I have an LCD TV w/ HDTV tuner and I still use an "antenna." I don't get cable/satillite because I have other immediate expenses. Like food, clothing, etc. I use Netflix (DVD), Youtube, and podcast to get my entertainment media. I might upgrade my DSL and will Netflix via Xbox soon. When I start making more $ Then I will get cable. Until then I have to do things on the cheap.
i disect old tech... then i end up breking it and it goes in the bin where it would end up anyway... its all well and good utill you implode a CRT and make one hell of a mess... and end up in hospital with lacerations... not my finest hour.
yup my parents have vista i try showing them linux and mac but no no no its so different that they cant use it and my grandparents dont even got a computer
I don't really have ''old'' technology, more like out dated. A fat old fashion Tv and a reasonable outdated computer with a fat monitor hooked up to it.
But I don't really mind, though, if I would be able to get all the new stuff right when it comes out, I would look forward to it less.
I've got no problem using my 17" CRT monitor (but only with my old computer). =P The picture quality is excellent, just as good as my 19" LCD. Pity they're so damn heavy to move around. =D
I'm 56 years old, so I lived quite a long time without all the technologies that we have today, and that never kept me from being happy and having a wonderful and fulfilling life.
I touched a computer for the very first time in my life in October 1998. Today, over 10 years later and retired, I repair PCs in my spare time for low-income people for free, and that indeed makes me also extremely happy.
In short, it is NOT because we reach a certain age that we are necessarily technophobes. :P
Hahaha! My parents have these really old shit stackt around the house. They are so fucking lame. They call em books. Don't ask me what their for, I simply don't know. And my guess, neither do ...
I don't particularly enjoy staying with my grandparents because of one reason and one reason alone: No internet access. Sure I have my mobile phone, and my iPod, but what happens after the battery dies on that. I'm stuck watching TV, and I hate watching TV. Maybe I've grown too addicted to technology just like Chris.
yeah my grandparents hardly got any new technology cuz grandpa is just afriad of change they got the HDTV of 1977 with rabbit ears and they got money why don't they go to bestbuy get a 42 and wall mount it and Get HD service from comcast
dude that room looks like my room expt for dail up. the newest technology i have is my nintendo wii and im luck to have that . And for computers a hp notebook that runs on windows M.E with a ram of only 512 mb
so that crashed . so if you want to send me some "NEW TECHNOLOGY" please be my guest
I visit my grandmother (who lives in the middle of NO WHERE) and she has NO Internet Service... so, I'm stuck with my iPhone.... the problem, In the middle of no where, Cell Phone service is SKETCHY! It sucks.
I have a laptop, and its LCD is horrid - my desktop computer is still on a CRT, and I am in no hurry to replace it - it's just much better in my experience. The same is to be said of the CRT TV downstairs - it looks better than most of the LCD/plasma sets in the shops, and until that changes it stays.
Oh, I also have a turntable to play vinyl on, and have bought vinyl recently, but I generally buy and prefer CDs.
Actually, you can use rabbit ear antennas to receive digital TV now...and it's actually....GASP...FREE!!! Ever heard of ATSC Chris? Who's behind the times here??
I feel a bit sorry that you place so much importance on the latest technology. I know you are playing it up a bit as a joke, but still. Technology is just fluff. Oh and 99% of people only have CRT.
i have a 1978 sanyo radio/cassette deck with rca inputs for a record player it has better sound than the mordern cd player/mp3 radios that brake in three weeks 1983 poniac firebird
the 80's will never die!!! reelect mayor goldie wilson
Lol, you're a funny person. Everyone knows what VHS, cathode ray tube and dial up is. I own a VHS videorecorder and a CRT tv myself. I want to tell you something that is not really important at all: there are billions of people living without LCD/plasma tv's, MBP (or other Apple stuff), the newest PC's with the newest graphics cards running Vista... and even without CRT and VHS.
Technology-wise, you're belonging to a small minority here on Planet Earth.
I have one of them. Now no one uses it I can't wait till I can remove it. vhs s are cool though. I can't wait to leave my old laptop five years old. No one in my family can live with out our computer. I can't play video games with our 3 plus computers. -_-
ICT pads itself on the back for innovation just a tad to often without actually providing it. Over the last 10 years finding the innovation has become harder in the so called innovation driver IT sector. Having fun with old technology is one thing , but do not for a moment think that we are so much more advanced today. IT people seem to suffer from e technological caveman inferiority complex.
i think u should shut the hell up now, ppl are living FINE without your hi-tech gadgets. u hear me? not everyone depends on those hi-tech shit that you are relying ur life on.

I still have a tv like, agreed its in my kitchen and we rarely watch it due to having a HD tv in the lounge and another in the play room(xbox woop) but we still use it but its not on an antenna just connected to our virgin box!

I avoid old technology as much as possible.
kingmanic12 2 years ago
Old technology is often like an old whore = if you're low on funds, it gets the basic job done in a pinch. Plus, even though you know you can do better and you really don't have the patience, you can be assured that nobody has to know.
TruthandJustice101 2 years ago
I can somewhat imagine how I am going to explain 80s and 90s 30 years from now. "This is called a sony walkman, you put a CD into it and music comes out from it. Oh, you don't know what a CD is?"

I predict that one day we will be able to scan "virtual newspapers" on our Personal Computation Machines. I also predict that we will also be able to access and view VIDEO information over a high-speed "Super Information Highway".
People say I'm crazy, but you'll all see! It will happen one day!
TruthandJustice101 2 years ago

You've imploded a CRT too? It kinda freaked me out when that happened LOL.

travisman26 2 years ago
I don't really have ''old'' technology, more like out dated. A fat old fashion Tv and a reasonable outdated computer with a fat monitor hooked up to it.
But I don't really mind, though, if I would be able to get all the new stuff right when it comes out, I would look forward to it less.
TheRealBlackPuma 2 years ago
"How do you deal with old technology?"
If I still have a use for it, I use it. If it works for my reasons, for what I need and want, there's no reason to get rid of it.
I usually only throw something away when it's totally used up and I can't fix it to get it working again.

If you were living in the past yourself, you probably wouldn't be able to watch this video. xD

NickMOCstudios 3 years ago
yeah my grandparents hardly got any new technology cuz grandpa is just afriad of change they got the HDTV of 1977 with rabbit ears and they got money why don't they go to bestbuy get a 42 and wall mount it and Get HD service from comcast
