@911KaylaRae I must say, you have a point. I used to want plastic surgery reeeeeally badly, not for myself, but just so that people would leave me alone instead of making fun of my body and such. Plastic surgery is always a decision made out of extreme insecurity, and all changing your natural body will do is delude you into thinking you have confidence when you really don't. True confidence comes from liking yourself the way God made you, not from changing yourself to make others like you.

@IluvKirito I think a lot of that comparison photo issue, however, is that in the before-photo she's smiling, and in the after photo she is not. A smile brightens all your features, and I can't help wondering if Tyra's opinion on the surgery prompted them to choose the photos that way. Cuz I agree with you from the photos, but looking at her sitting there, she looks lovely and not tired at all.

I don't like how Tyra is pretty much insinuating that you HAVE to be a certain race to have certain features; different eye shapes, hair textures, colors, etc, are present in ALL races. Sometimes certain features may be more predominant in a specific ethnicity, but they're not exclusive. Also, Tyra, not everyone wants to look white, and white doesn't have to have a specific look, aside from the fair skin. You can be white and have curly/straight/wavy hair, or monolids, or small noses, or w/e...

Double eyelid surgery is WAAAY common in Asia and it's really not a big deal and the doctor did a REALLY good job by comparing it to liposuction and breast augmentation so that all these racist Americans would understand that this girl wasn't "betraying her race" like the boyfriend said.

I am currently writing a paper on body image distortion because of media imperialism...No matter what the comments are here, my research clearly states that Asians who do this surgery are trying to assimilate a measure of beauty that is outside their own race. I personally find this sad.
I dont agree tht portrayal of beauty is European-ized. For example, Tyra has the "right eyes" & shes African-American & the guest has the "right hair" & shes Asian. Uhh Tyra, are you for real? Plenty of Asians get this surgery done both in and out of the United States and for non-caucasian related reasons. Over 50% of Asians are born with the Asian "double eye-lid" crease, and more often than not, those who don't possess this gene undergo surgery for the practical reason of actually being able to wear eye makeup without it smudging everywhere (which you would not have known without ever having an epicanthic fold on your eyes). Research first, then talk.
I think Asian eyes look nice & unique, but you only live once, and if she wants to have a double eyelid, thats her decision. Beauty these days are about becoming prettier. Now let's all admit it, "beauty" standards are related towards white people. Asians want bigger eyes, like white people. I don't like how Tyra is pretty much insinuating that you HAVE to be a certain race to have certain features; different eye shapes, hair textures, colors, etc, are present in ALL races. Sometimes certain features may be more predominant in a specific ethnicity, but they're not exclusive. wtf! asians DO NOT get eyelid surgery to look caucasian. The crease above their eye is pretty and it's easier to apply eyeliner and that is it. Plus I could tell Tyra has some major issues. @bloodsanity I agree. I'm caucasian and I can't grow my hair to save my life -_- Maybe it's because of that 1/8th of Cherokee that I have in me, but I highly doubt it. Caucasians don't all have long, straight hair and double eyelids and all the other things Tyra likes to pin on us as a stereotype...I have to put a relaxer in my hair to get it straight for goodness sake and there are plenty of girls who are not Asian that have monolids...any race can have any of these features naturally.
