  • This is awesome! where can i find a tab for this?

  • @frobang2009 Thanks! Great question, let me see if I remember where I got the tabs. I want to say the Vestapol website or Homespun tapes has a free copy to download.

  • You are doing ok. I saw John Hurt play this live when I was in my early 20s. Still "trying to nail it" 40 years later. Just remember - John himself hardly ever played it the same way twice. Nice job.

  • Awesome cover, well done

  • Excellent......... ♫♫♫

  • thank you!

  • Great performance!

    Thanks for psoting.

I have started practicing this song myself, but I am not up to speed yet.

As far as I know, MJH plays mainly using two fingers of the right hand - thumb and index - sometimes with some help of the middle finger.

But actually I think everyone has the freedom of choice doing it his (or her) own way.

  • thanks!

  • right on! great cover. I'm so gonna learn to play this after hearing your version.

  • thank you! good luck with it, it's a fun piece to learn

  • Excellent! Keep up the great work.

  • thank you!

  • Great stuff. I'd say it is nailed! It's taken me 3 months and I'm still struggling, but the song is worth it. Strangely, I couldn't manage to get up to speed using my first finger on my right hand and I notice you too are using 2nd & 3rd fingers on the right hand!

  • thank you!

  • nice work man

  • thank you!

  • Excellent!! Closest I've heard to the great MJH's picking... he would be proud!!

  • thank you very much!

  • Great job man. I love this tune, sad lyrics and at the same time uplifting music. Most of MJH's tunes have an innocence to the music that brings a tear to my eye.

  • thank you! I agree with you 100% about MJH

  • Woow,,gonna have exam for this song. How long did it take you to play like that?

Btw,,you look like Jason Statham lol..

  • Wow! Nice picking man... probably Hurt's best rendition on YouTube, 5/5.

  • thank you!

  • Nicely done! I just discovered this song tonight and fell in love!

I'm going to be working furiously to learn it for as long as it takes.

My Ovation seems to have a very different tone. I thought it sounded like there was a copo on there, though.

    Thanks for posting this!

  • Awesome.

  • Nice!

  • Just started learning this tune, have been learning the country blues picking thing now for nearly two years.

This is a great version, thanks for posting it, have added it to one of my playlists.

    I'm learning this style.

Any more John Hurt or any more country blues for that matter?- Keep it goin' man!

  • Thank you! I do have one other one up here (Nobody's Business), but that's about it for John Hurt songs.

  • Yeah your good man. I just cant get the timing right on the thumb picked bass line when i play the treble parts but you've managed well. great video.

  • thank you! It took a lot of practice to get it down, don't give up

  • Wow! Jealous! You've nailed it down alright! I'm still trying, without succes. Good work man.

  • Hey Jason,

    Excellent - more please.

    Regards, Jack

  • Thanks Jack, appreciate the comment. More on the way......

  • Very nice picking! You really conveyed the mood of the story. I just posted a version of this. It's amazing to hear how the same songs can be played in so many different ways. Thanks!

  • thanks!

  • You have nailed it, my friend. Excellent cut! That's a five, and no doubt of it.

  • thanks!

  • JHerr5150 - You kick ass!!!

  • thanks!

  • Very nice. am i wrong or are not using your index fingure.. thats an unusual technique but very nice. i'm learning it at the minute and your post will really help me out so thank you for that

  • thanks - you're correct. weird huh? I'm used to using the index finger in every song. The G string as far as I recall is not plucked here in the whole song so the index finger doesn't come into play for me.

  • your right. i never noticed the missing g string the whole way through. i'm trying to improve my technique at the minute. you know thumb for D A E and index middle and ring for G B E respectively. this is a great piece to discipline that. cheers again. oh yeah nice choice of song for your other covers. you should have a go at world on a string by neil young. would suit your voice

  • a great song beautifully performed ! *****

  • thanks!

  • Wow! Played very well:) thanks for passing it my way rhopen:) great song 5*****Jane

  • Thanks Jane!

  • First rate Jason. That is a Gibson isn't it?

    -Ron

  • Thanks again Ron for the positive feedback. Yep, it's a Gibson J-45. Just the standard model with the mahogany back and sides, not the rosewood version.

  • Well I think you already "nailed" it. Very good performance, well done. 5*****

  • thanks!
