@13mordeth I disagree its all in what you want in a bike. Yes the cost difference is a lot but if you are and agressive rider youll definately want the zx6r. But notice he spends a lot of time in city so the zx6r would be very uncomfortable. Its all in what you want from the bike everyones answer will be biased. I suggest test riding both and seeing which one fits you better. Also take into account your skill level!

It's more of what region of the world you are and if you're willing to work on it. Chinese scoots in America uses either cloned Honda or Yamaha motors, while Indian (like India, not Native American) Bajaj uses cloned Vespas and Piaggios or Puch on mopeds. In the US I went to Craigslist a site where people sell used items and bought my scooters there dirt cheap. I bought a Honda express and a Chinese scoot to transfer a motor to it (Honda better frame).

Scooters are somewhat hard to handle at less than 5mph or if it's not tuned to run smoothly due to using a centrifugal clutch which engages at 2k rpm. A small wheeled scooter is highly maneuverable at 10mph+ but you'll feel road bumps that you'll never feel in a car or a larger wheeled scooter or car. Puch makes true mopeds but if you need a cheap knock off look for a brand called Kinetics made in India off a Puch design.

PS: I should have mentioned this as an option but you'll need to check a few forums for suggestions and the laws in your area but you might want to consider a bicycle engine kit or buy one fully built like a whizzer or one of the ads from the forums. Some of these are built better than the cheap Chinese scooters, cheaper, better fuel economy, but not as fast, nor equipped with lights to ride at night but a decent enough to put miles on and save the car.
