The seed in Minecraft is used as a starting numeral for the randomization algorithm in Java that generates the world. If you put in a character string it is converted into a number first. This guarantees the exact same world is generated per seed.

Amnesia: the Dark Descent would make an excellent let's play after Minecraft, if you want to keep doing this.

There would always be material for the narrator (ie You) to comment on, and it wouldn't be as boring as you seem to think this Minecraft series will be. (Not that it will be boring, of course.)

a good tip for starting out in minecraft is not to make a full set of wooden tools. Just make a wooden pick, then harvest some stone. That way you don't have to waste more wood
