Federer was not unlucky in 2008, they slowed down the courts and also the ball bounced higher which suits Nadal's style of play more. Still Fedex hung on to push Nadal to 5 sets. Federer was outplayed by sheer grit and never say die attitude of Nadal. If it were played on the same type of courts which was played previous years, Fed would still be king. The way he dominates the year end tournaments like Paris and London stands testimony that he is still king on faster courts
@jerilee86 so you´re saying, they slowed down the courts from 2007 to 2008?, if so, could you tell me, where did you happen to get this information from..
@extradutyfelt1 I read an article which said demise of Serve and Volley. They used to use a mix of rye grass and I forgot some other type of grass. Now they use 100 % rye grass which is more firm. They slowed it down first in 2002. Sampras couldn't adjust and lost in the second round to a clay court specialist George Basti, they slowed it again in 2008. Of course still Nadal was the better player in that match. Am saying Federer was not unlucky.
@jerilee86 It´s the story I heard as well, they changed the grass just after the 2001 tournament, because the old grass wore out quicker and retained more moisture, from rain and this new grass is thicker and has a longer durability, but it´s slowed thing´s down.
@extradutyfelt1 Thats right, this grass holds firm and lasts longer than the previous ones. It was also done in order to improve the entertainment value of tennis. It bounces more and more evenly, balls travels slower and does not skid either. This way we had longer rallies. It was a win win situation for organisers who also had more crowds in the coming years. We saw different champions in the last four years. Still, I feel the urge to see someone with the style of Edberg or Becker.
@jerilee86 yes, apparently this grass doesn´t get, so many irregular bounces, but it´s not as if though, it´s become clay court slow, it still has a certain amount of quickness to it.
@extradutyfelt1 Yes, you are right, its not that slow. But its not only the courts, the balls have become a lil more puffier, rackets have changed and everything favours the baseliners now. Even then I have to concede that only the best players are winning now. Watch wimbledon before 2001 and now, you ll see the difference. Particularly the finals of 1999, 2000, 2001, 2007, 2008. High quality but there is a hell a lot of changes. Not only at Wimbledon, but also at OZ and US Opens as well.
@jerilee86 they say tennis ball´s have become heavier as well and larry stefanki, said that he think´s the wimbledon slazenger ball, is a ``flippin grape fruit´´:) and of course, as you say, raquet technology is evolving, string technology is evolving, as well. other surfaces have changed.
I swear to god some of the comments on this video make me wonder if the people commenting even watch tennis. Nadal has always been a bad matchup for Fed (as an honest Fed fan) and now Fed at 30 is closer to beating Djokovic (and has done it) than Nadal at 25 will ever be in the near future because Djokovic is a terrible matchup for Nadal. Also anybody who believes Federer is just as good now as he ever was is on some very special crack. I don't think Nadal breaks Fed's GS record personally.
@on9hockeu it will happen very soon, 2012 or 2013 at furthest. Murray will beat djokovic to win a slam. Part of it is because djokovic don't have variety in his game. Nadal eats variety players alive but struggle with djokovic who refuses to slice or volley.
@Steve0904 the reason is federer has variety and difficult to read. He can suddenly play well on his backhand when his opponent read that his backhand is poor for this tournament. Variety helps him stay on top for very long. Djokovic and nadal always play the same way and are read way easier than Federer. They will struggle when they age above 26. I think federer will have better chance to beat them when he is in 30s when all 3 are out of prime.
@2601andrew Djokovic's return at the 2011 Us Open Semifinal was better than that, specially because he saved match point and then went on to win the match and the tournament!
Some people on this comments page have made fair comments about there being too many points shown, that are won by Nadal, but this creature by the name of mnsa0676 seriously needs to get therapy.
how can you showes 70 procent of nadal's point and he losese 3 1(6 0 in first and 6 3 in fourth set)that is so stupid,i cant understand this kind of people

@Tyrex1985 Tonsga beat the shit out of federer a couple of days ago.Another choke by federer just like the Del potro finals a couple a years ago up 2 sets to 1 and caves in
@herrbigbadwolf from what i see there, Novak will overturn his h2h with nadal in 5 years. Nadal peaks young but Novak peaks same as federer age. Furthermore Nadal's game is on his legs more than technique, 26-30 yrs Novak will play better. All new players will have 2 handed bullet backhand which will give Nadal harder time. They could be on par with Nadal's fitness by then he is 28 and it spells trouble for him.

@dud321xyz Yeah that's right 0-5 I'm jumping ahead to next year already. But I disagree with your comment that Federer is the greatest ever.Head to head losing record against Nadal.Sampras serve was machine like for Federer at his best to deal with on grass.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@Federerfanforev16 Cause i said Nadal is a better tennis player than Federer I'm stupid.Well the results speak for themselves and I call them as I see them.I'm not going to play politics. Nadal has beaten Federer more times and will continue to dominate him into the future.
@LittleVinnyCock If you only count H2H then Davydenko is a better player than Nadal? And MUCH better on hard courts? Given overall accomplishments I would say Nadal is a better player even on hard, but Davydenko owns him 6-1.
@Bostero3771 How many GS does Davydenko have?Nadal has 10 NadalALWAYS beats Federer NOW.When Krajeck won wimbledon in 1996 he played at a higher level than Federer did in 2006 on ANY match Federer played in his life at Wimbledon.
@LittleVinnyCock So what is the right measure? if it is total achievements (GS, Master's Championships, consecutive weeks as #1, etc) then no doubt Federer is the GOAT. If we only count H2H then Nadal would be better than Federer and Davydenko would be better than Nadal. BTW Davydenko has beaten Nadal the last 6 times they met, including a sound trashing this year at Doha....
@Bostero3771 Nadal is the best ever.He will break 14 GS and the 16 GS that federer got in the water down era.Nadal will win the last 2 majors of 2011 unless he has serious injury. As for Krajeck the level of play when he won in1996 he dropped only one set to Sampras in QF but the level of play was higher than ANY match Federer played at wimbledon
@LittleVinnyCock a lot of personal opinion and wishful thinking futurology but little facts. Reality is, today Roger has 16GS and Nadal has 10. As for the "injuries" they always come handy when Nadal loses, don't they?
@LittleVinnyCock regarding Krajicek and his level of play, it is just your fanatic opinion. I could say that when Kuerten played his first RG final he played at a much better level than Nadal ever did on any surface... and that would be my opinion as well. So if we stick to the facts and evaluate total accomplishemnts, as of today, Roger still has the edge on everyone else... predicting the future is not my thing.
You even compare Krajicek with Federer?? How many Grand-Slam titels did he won? I think it were only one title (Wimbledon as you already said). And now you even compare him with Federer? Federer won 16 of those titels. And maybe he's going to win even more. Still he's the most successfull player in history. And of course at the moment Nadal is a bit better. He's 5 years younger. We'll see if Nadal is still on this level when he's as old as Federer now.
@Lincoln2000 well buddy Nadal is going to win wimbledon so now he got 10 and he will win the U.S open this summer making 11 and once he beats 14 he will be the greatest to ever play. 1.Nadal
Nadal has already 10 Grand-Slam Titels. And if he'll win 14 Grand-Slam titles he'll be Nr. 2, because Federer already has 16 Grand-Slam titles and is Nr. 1 at the moment. Not Sampras, who has 14. As you can see Sampras will obviously never be Nr.2...
@LittleVinnyCock ... Nadal and Krjiceck better than Roger at Wimbledon??? hardly, Federer has more Wimby titles than Nadal and Krjiceck together and a far better record on grass overall.
@LittleVinnyCock Sampras could not even make it to a RG final and he did not even have to face a clay court specialist like Nadal. He lost to journeymen like Blanco and Schutler. His best showing was a semifinal where he got trashed by Kafelnikov. Up until today, Federer holds the record on GS finals, semis and quarters, wins on two surfaces, 5 Master's Champiuonships, most consecutive weeks as Nr.1 and a number of other unique achievements. The rest is futurology and wishful thinking.
@shadows124 The reason why there are so many nadal highlights is simple. Lets face it we all like to watch longer rallies where players slug it out, that is generally (and Im not saying all the time but generally) the way nadal wins his points, by getting into long rallies and wearing the opponent down. Federer is the complete opposite, he has one of the best serves of all time (not in terms of power) for setting up his points, and argualbly the best shot (his FH, though it isnt the case ATM)...
@shadows124 ....ever seen when its 'on'. So the points federer won I imagine were about 60-70% big serve, finishing forehand, which isnt exactly good highlights for a 10 min vid. As a tennis player, I personally prefer feds style, to be able to do that in courts that are much slower than the 90s and still do pretty well is something to behold, but as a spectator, its better to see the longer rallies, and much better for the sport
@shadows124 but you cant always be sure someone is always gonna be around for your comment in the first place, if your interests have changed, fair enough, but it cant have changed so much that the comment I made about these highlights can cause a reaction to say 'you really shouldn't bump a four month old comment' to me that just seems odd. Is it forbidden? even more so since this is the first time I've watched this match in 5 years, so I cant stalk every tennis comment on youtube
Hate to see when Nadal play against Federer is only to do the topspin forehands to Federer's backhand...In some rally Federer is hitting only backhands... it's so not classic,or enjoyable...
@89pleasek and @greezall : Nadal has improve so much each year.Serve improved this year, backhand improved in 2009/2008, volleys improved in 2007.By 2003 Federer was already a complete player, but mentally he needed to toughen up (beating Sampras seemed to give him the belief and mental toughness-big match temprament).I honestly think that it's now a change of tactics that gives Nadal or Federer the edge.Fed playing way more aggressively with the backhand has proved he can beat Nadal anywhere!!!
I'm not sure if I got it the right way but are you saying Fed "past" is better than Fed now?!! If you only meant 08/some of09 you're right in some way but Federer has improved : and still improves and without his sickness from 08 you couldn't say that an earlier one would easily beat a later Federer. The way which roger played like in the wtF against nadal(2010) he wouldn't be eaten by the 06 federer cause if hes in this condition no one can beat him! But the thought is great: Fed vs
nadal played as well as he could possibly play back then and still federer was never under serious threat at all, once he lost that third set tie-break he raced to a 5-1 lead in the fourth. this is federer in 2006 people, hed eat the 2008/2009 federer alive
@89Pleasek I would also argue that the Nadal and Djokovic of now, would eat this Federer alive. Federer hasn't got worse as a player, if anything he has improved, it's just that many players have caught up with him and don't fear him like the Roddicks and Hewitts of yesteryear.
Oh yes, usually a player is at his best when he reaches 30 years of age.
5, 6 years from now there will be another youngster beating the crap out of Nadal and Djokovic. Then, I'm gonna say that they both actually improved but the competition is too tough to handle.
@89Pleasek What a ridiculous thing to say, that is a different époque. The game has evolved since then, so that militates that point.
Yes a man is normally around his physical peak at roughly 30 like you said. I would still argue that their skill level would remain the same, and the experience and practice allows them to hone their game like Rafa and his new serve for example. After a certain age, the important things to a tennis player such as explosive speed and reflexes will deteriorate.
A man is at his physical peak at around 30 and I agree with that. That has nothing to do with tennis players, tho.
A 30-year old is slower, has worse reflexes, is less determined, less motivated, less fresh than his 20-year old self. How many 30-year olds are there in the top of the rankings?
Federer is gonna feel it even more as he was so ahead of the field thx to his superb footwork. Even if he's 0,2 secs late, he's gonna, say, frame a forehand or just simply miss the sweet spot of the rac
Many would argue that Agassi around 31-33 was better than in 1995. His volleys were way better, he improved his serve, his groundstrokes were even more devastating, at 34 years of age he was still one of the fittest guys on tour and you just couldn't outgrind him. Still I would pick the 1995 ver of Agassi over his 2003 ver. You just have no idea how speed and physical training is important in tennis, especially nowadays when the speed of all surfaces has been decreasing dramatically.
@89Pleasek Needless to say, you are right, there will be fresh talent in several years that will be chasing at the heels of Nadal and Djokovic, which is why they will have to continue to adapt and improve their game to cope with the perpetual evolution of the game, like Federer has had to do to cope with Nadal, Djoko, Del Po....
The current youngsters Nadal Djokovic will go down even faster imo, just compare them with Wilander, Chang, Hewitt and others who relied on brilliant footwork, speed and stamina, they were all gone after 25.
@89Pleasek After Roland Garros 2009 didn't you predict that Nadal would never touch a Grand Slam trophy again and his tendinitis blew his career forever?I honestly want to meet you and fuck you over in straight sets in real life so we don't have to keep arguing online. Where do you live? I will seriously fly out. We can go out for beers and have a good time as well I haven't traveled in a while. Lemme know BRO
Why don't you upload a video of you playing tennis?
Cause I really fancy my chances having played for 10+ years (at one stage I even had to decide if I wanna go for it or go to uni) against someone who doesn't know shit about just for the sake of it
@89Pleasek Why didn't you do what Isner did and do university and tennis together? I'll upload soon. You should upload as well, but no Native American opponents they are not consistent at sports.
Following your logic, Laver, Borg and McEnroe should be dominating the tour right now with all the improvements and experience from the previous years LOL
@stubberz Really, Federer, beyond his prime, an "old man" by many detractors, beat the best Djoko, the one that had beaten Nadal in 4 consecutive finals so even though they "do not fear him" he can still beat the best.
@89Pleasek 2008 maybe, but federer played very well in 2009, he made all 4 grand slam final´s and won 2.. he would have won 3, if he hadn´t lost his momentum, in the us open final..
2008 Nadal was virtually 1 point away from losing against a mono-affected Federer in his worst year in 2004-2009 (I'm talking about a BP for Federer at 4-3 in the 5th set). No way he'd beat 2006 prime Fed on grass. Only Sampras could have a chance.
@89Pleasek Both Nadal and Sampras at there best could beat Federer at his best including 2006 on grass.(Wimbledon).Even Krajeck at his best (1996) that year would have beaten Federer at his best including (2006)
@89Pleasek Your the faggot asshole.YOUR ALL TALK about how great the faggot Federer is and he can no longer beat nadal.why don't you fuck federer up his ass
lol at least fed takes a shower unlike the buttpicker,, if you like that smelly ass of nadals go enjoy your fuck then, have a nice day and never answer my comments again you dumb little shit
@jtsventaylor No chance, 2006 federer hit with power and consistency, 2007 started decreasing ever since. Once it decrease nadal controlled the rallies. In the 2008 final he hit bad before the rain delay, won't happened in 2006.
A lovely match, Fed still at the absolute top of his game...it was the first final in a while (other than Safin Aus 2005) that Fed was really playing rough tennis, as in not being able to dominate with his beaut forehand and had some long ass rallies to deal with. Nice to see Rafa now with a much more penetrating serve and forehand passes. I hope to Lord they get a chance to play a super competitive match again! Fedskies got a lot left in him, fuck all dem doubters.
I think it's interesting how Federer won this match with consistency and variety - without necessarily going for too many crazy shots which we have seen more of in other matches. I guess it's harder to do that against Nadal's penetrating shots.
I love "-ehi. -ehi." at the end (:-_-:)

LittleVinnyCock 8 months ago
@LittleVinnyCock a lot of personal opinion and wishful thinking futurology but little facts. Reality is, today Roger has 16GS and Nadal has 10. As for the "injuries" they always come handy when Nadal loses, don't they?
Bostero3771 8 months ago
@LittleVinnyCock regarding Krajicek and his level of play, it is just your fanatic opinion. I could say that when Kuerten played his first RG final he played at a much better level than Nadal ever did on any surface... and that would be my opinion as well. So if we stick to the facts and evaluate total accomplishemnts, as of today, Roger still has the edge on everyone else... predicting the future is not my thing.
Bostero3771 8 months ago
@LittleVinnyCock
Lincoln2000 8 months ago
@Lincoln2000 well buddy Nadal is going to win wimbledon so now he got 10 and he will win the U.S open this summer making 11 and once he beats 14 he will be the greatest to ever play. 1.Nadal
2. Sampras
After that it doesn't really matter who #3 is
LittleVinnyCock 8 months ago
@LittleVinnyCock
Lincoln2000 8 months ago
Best at wimbledon were
1.Sampras
2.Nadal
3.Krajeck
LittleVinnyCock 8 months ago
@LittleVinnyCock nadal??? are you on crack
seidl01 8 months ago
@LittleVinnyCock ... Nadal and Krjiceck better than Roger at Wimbledon??? hardly, Federer has more Wimby titles than Nadal and Krjiceck together and a far better record on grass overall.
Bostero3771 8 months ago
@dud321xyz No way is Federer the greatest player ever he can't beat Nadal at RG 0-6.
1. Nadal
2. Sampras
After those 2 it doesn't matter anymore especially when Nadal breaks Sampras 14 GS.
LittleVinnyCock 8 months ago
@LittleVinnyCock Sampras could not even make it to a RG final and he did not even have to face a clay court specialist like Nadal. He lost to journeymen like Blanco and Schutler. His best showing was a semifinal where he got trashed by Kafelnikov. Up until today, Federer holds the record on GS finals, semis and quarters, wins on two surfaces, 5 Master's Champiuonships, most consecutive weeks as Nr.1 and a number of other unique achievements. The rest is futurology and wishful thinking.
Bostero3771 8 months ago
@Bostero3771 Kafelnikov and federer on clay courts were about the same ability it would be a good match.
Federer played in the water down era.Nadal is the best ever and he will break MOST of the records set by federer.

shadows124 11 months ago 33
@shadows124 obviously
Anerd8 8 months ago
@shadows124 The reason why there are so many nadal highlights is simple. Lets face it we all like to watch longer rallies where players slug it out, that is generally (and Im not saying all the time but generally) the way nadal wins his points, by getting into long rallies and wearing the opponent down. Federer is the complete opposite, he has one of the best serves of all time (not in terms of power) for setting up his points, and argualbly the best shot (his FH, though it isnt the case ATM)...
Peaches1822 6 months ago
@shadows124 ....ever seen when its 'on'. So the points federer won I imagine were about 60-70% big serve, finishing forehand, which isnt exactly good highlights for a 10 min vid. As a tennis player, I personally prefer feds style, to be able to do that in courts that are much slower than the 90s and still do pretty well is something to behold, but as a spectator, its better to see the longer rallies, and much better for the sport

shadows124 6 months ago
@shadows124 but you cant always be sure someone is always gonna be around for your comment in the first place, if your interests have changed, fair enough, but it cant have changed so much that the comment I made about these highlights can cause a reaction to say 'you really shouldn't bump a four month old comment' to me that just seems odd. Is it forbidden? even more so since this is the first time I've watched this match in 5 years, so I cant stalk every tennis comment on youtube

@89pleasek and @greezall : Nadal has improve so much each year.Serve improved this year, backhand improved in 2009/2008, volleys improved in 2007.By 2003 Federer was already a complete player, but mentally he needed to toughen up (beating Sampras seemed to give him the belief and mental toughness-big match temprament).I honestly think that it's now a change of tactics that gives Nadal or Federer the edge.Fed playing way more aggressively with the backhand has proved he can beat Nadal anywhere!!!
halfsouthafrican 1 year ago
@89pleasek

89Pleasek 1 year ago 2
@89Pleasek I would also argue that the Nadal and Djokovic of now, would eat this Federer alive. Federer hasn't got worse as a player, if anything he has improved, it's just that many players have caught up with him and don't fear him like the Roddicks and Hewitts of yesteryear.
stubberz 10 months ago
Oh yes, usually a player is at his best when he reaches 30 years of age.
5, 6 years from now there will be another youngster beating the crap out of Nadal and Djokovic. Then, I'm gonna say that they both actually improved but the competition is too tough to handle.
Just lol.
89Pleasek 10 months ago
@89Pleasek What a ridiculous thing to say, that is a different époque. The game has evolved since then, so that militates that point.
Yes a man is normally around his physical peak at roughly 30 like you said. I would still argue that their skill level would remain the same, and the experience and practice allows them to hone their game like Rafa and his new serve for example. After a certain age, the important things to a tennis player such as explosive speed and reflexes will deteriorate.
stubberz 10 months ago
A man is at his physical peak at around 30 and I agree with that. That has nothing to do with tennis players, tho.
A 30-year old is slower, has worse reflexes, is less determined, less motivated, less fresh than his 20-year old self. How many 30-year olds are there in the top of the rankings?
Federer is gonna feel it even more as he was so ahead of the field thx to his superb footwork. Even if he's 0,2 secs late, he's gonna, say, frame a forehand or just simply miss the sweet spot of the rac
89Pleasek 10 months ago
Many would argue that Agassi around 31-33 was better than in 1995. His volleys were way better, he improved his serve, his groundstrokes were even more devastating, at 34 years of age he was still one of the fittest guys on tour and you just couldn't outgrind him. Still I would pick the 1995 ver of Agassi over his 2003 ver. You just have no idea how speed and physical training is important in tennis, especially nowadays when the speed of all surfaces has been decreasing dramatically.
89Pleasek 10 months ago
@89Pleasek Needless to say, you are right, there will be fresh talent in several years that will be chasing at the heels of Nadal and Djokovic, which is why they will have to continue to adapt and improve their game to cope with the perpetual evolution of the game, like Federer has had to do to cope with Nadal, Djoko, Del Po....
stubberz 10 months ago
The current youngsters Nadal Djokovic will go down even faster imo, just compare them with Wilander, Chang, Hewitt and others who relied on brilliant footwork, speed and stamina, they were all gone after 25.
89Pleasek 10 months ago
@89Pleasek After Roland Garros 2009 didn't you predict that Nadal would never touch a Grand Slam trophy again and his tendinitis blew his career forever?I honestly want to meet you and fuck you over in straight sets in real life so we don't have to keep arguing online. 89Pleasek 10 months ago
@stubberz Really, Federer, beyond his prime, an "old man" by many detractors, beat the best Djoko, the one that had beaten Nadal in 4 consecutive finals so even though they "do not fear him" he can still beat the best.
Bostero3771 8 months ago
@89Pleasek 2008 maybe, but federer played very well in 2009, he made all 4 grand slam final´s and won 2.. he would have won 3, if he hadn´t lost his momentum, in the us open final..
extradutyfelt1 10 months ago
2008 Nadal would beat 2006 Federer in my opinion.
jtsventaylor 9 months ago
2008 Nadal was virtually 1 point away from losing against a mono-affected Federer in his worst year in 2004-2009 (I'm talking about a BP for Federer at 4-3 in the 5th set). No way he'd beat 2006 prime Fed on grass. Only Sampras could have a chance.
89Pleasek 9 months ago
@89Pleasek Both Nadal and Sampras at there best could beat Federer at his best including 2006 on grass.(Wimbledon).Even Krajeck at his best (1996) that year would have beaten Federer at his best including (2006)

@jtsventaylor No chance, 2006 federer hit with power and consistency, 2007 started decreasing ever since. Once it decrease nadal controlled the rallies. In the 2008 final he hit bad before the rain delay, won't happened in 2006.

BigEdDunkel 1 year ago
A lovely match, Fed still at the absolute top of his game...it was the first final in a while (other than Safin Aus 2005) that Fed was really playing rough tennis, as in not being able to dominate with his beaut forehand and had some long ass rallies to deal with. Nice to see Rafa now with a much more penetrating serve and forehand passes. I hope to Lord they get a chance to play a super competitive match again! Fedskies got a lot left in him, fuck all dem doubters.
DanimalLawlz 1 year ago
Nadal now is waaaaaaaaaaaaay different!
TerkTube 1 year ago
I think it's interesting how Federer won this match with consistency and variety - without necessarily going for too many crazy shots which we have seen more of in other matches. I guess it's harder to do that against Nadal's penetrating shots.
