This guy's one of the most sycophantic reviewers ever. EVERY reviewer says that apart from the gearbox the old M5 (E60) is superior. Only this pillock doesn't. And I'm sorry but 0-100mph in under 9 seconds isnt that great. Call me when it gets in the 7s.

I do think about all M cars look (I can't say feel because I've never driven one) very different from the "normal series". You see an M5 or an M3 in a parking or on the street, just glancing at it you know it's not a normal 5-series or 3-series. All those subtle modifications he mentioned are noticeable on older cars as well. They do feel like "different" cars.

I would've liked a longer review though, with some of the drawbacks and a bit more specs.

A turbo in an M5? No thanks.

The M5 can be a straight six (again) but not with a turbo.

The M5 has to be a "no replacement for displacement" ground thumper.

Sounds like several makers (Porsche and BMW, maybe Nissan with the new GTR, I haven't driven) have delivered on their n'th generation of dual clutch boxes that really work.

I enjoy (and drive) a manual, but I'm not religious about a 3rd pedal or rev-matching downshifts.

I don't often disagree with Harris, but he's overselling the new M5.

Unlike most other reviewers, who spew specs and stats like a broken vacuum, Chris tries, and succeeds, at getting the emotion from the cars he reviews. He gets to that thing that excites gearheads. The j'ne se quoi. The best word to describe it, is passion. And for that, I along with many others thank and appreciate him.

The old M5 looked a bit shit but it had an engine to drool over and envy. Sure it wasn't practical but when I think about the car my first thought is 'V10' followed by '...it's got a V10'.

This new M5 looks boring, like a 3 series, it sounds boring, subdued and clinical, and I'm struggling to think of a reason why I should care about it.

No one who buys one is going to drift it.

is this car awesome, it is. is it special, no! It's main rival E63AMG is 105 kg lighter and that must be a huge difference in perofrmance and handling no matter everyone says. But main problem of this M5 is E60 M5 cause that V10 M5 was EPIC. But, this m5 will shurely be sold in over 20k units....

2:15 Chris why do you say that there was no 8 Speed automatic gearbox at the time that could handle all the Torque ?? hence the 760I has an 8 Speed auto in a Twin turbo V12 with a massive torque and its out there since few years already! Not that i like the auto better than the DCT really.
