Can anyone give me (an outsider not familiar with Bucyrus much) an idea of where the flooded parts of town were? Or, what areas were not flooded? Please describe the areas as between streets or mention corners. I want to look at the areas on Google maps. Thanks
@Joeys48 - The beginning of the video to 4:33, is Woodlawn Ave from Highland to Jones Street. Between Mary and Water Streets which run East and West lies the Sandusky RIver which overflowed at Lane Street In the video 4:33 - 5:23. At 5:23 to end, is Sandusky St (the main drag) just about 500 ft. South of the hospital and North of the Brawurst Festival location which ends at the intersection of Mary and Sandusky Streets.
It was a total mess, I had about 4 feet of water in my basement.
@msmaifd Thanks so much for the detailed information. It will be a fun evening identifying those coordinates on Google map. Question, does this mean there are areas in Bucyrus that are not prone to flooding? Is most or some of the town safe from this calamity?
@Joeys48 yes to both ?'s Joey most of the town is safe from flooding. The last flood before this one was when I was a kid aand I'm in my 40's . . . Have fun mapping! :-))~
Thanks for the comment.....was that over in the Lane St. area where they had the major flooding? I know some people here who are still trying to recover.....
That was..Bad.Galions park was at least 3 or more feet under water.I have never seen ANYTHING this bad in my life here. But im only 14 but my dad never saw anything this bad here I don't think and he's 50..
You're right this was a mess!! I have about 4 feet of water is my basement...people here are still trying to recover from it and the economy isn't helping in the least.....but we Bucyrians are survivors! and speaking of the waterfront, my neighbors house is forsale and my studio is behind my house; you could buy the house and we could go into the video production business together! - wouldn't that be FUN!.....lol
Actually; They never fell in. It was the bridge going N. on Sandusky Ave. Two (point).19 males tried driving through the water and it carried them down into the river. BFD had to pull them out in the rescue boat. I guess thats what they get for getting behind the wheel while being under the influence of alcohol.
Nice job on the video. Hard to believe we were out walking around in that!
If you find out how to get rid of the basement stink, let me know, there is nothing left down there, it's been cleaned and I can't get rid of that smell either, although it's not as bad as it was.
This town is ran by idiots. The mayor is as bout as worthless as a tit on a bore hog. Thankfully FEMA was able to assist. Id hate for a tornado to come through here. This town would be completely gone.
Thanks for the laugh.....we do have to be thankful to FEMA and also the other organizations and local churches who pitched in to help......I will tell you one thing and for people who know me, they will laugh but if this town is ever wiped out by a tornado I will be one of the ghosts in this ghost town! BOO!
That flood was ridiculous. My fiance and I were actually sleeping in the basement, and luckily we only had it about 3-4 inches deep before we woke up and tried our best to stop the inflow of water. We had the tv on and stuff.... we could have been electricuted or the water could have kept rising and we could have drowned in our sleep. I'm so glad that everything had turned out okay for us... but it's sad to think that many other people have lost their homes and all their belongings.
Thanks for you comment.....WOW you guys are really lucky, I'm thankful you and your fiance are still with us.....I know I got 4 feet of water/sewage in my basement, I've cleaned and cleaned with bleach and it is still dirty, I'm thankful it is not stinky but I don't seem to get it clean although I use the right bleach/water mixture.....Does anyone have any suggestion how to get rid of smell (for some) and the dirty look? Thanks again for you comment.
WOW this flood was devastating to a lot of people....I'm just glad we just got a basement full instead of losing our homes. I wish other people would make comments about the flood so we can share what we experienced.. Thank you.
