I'm really on the fence about this show... on the one hand, this show is really no worse than most of the shows of this style, but they really missed a lot in terms of the culture of the 80's. I'd blame this on a few things, specifically that there is only one black person in one episode of the entire first season (Venus, Aerobics instructor) and only one reference to both Michael Jackson and Madonna in the form of jokes... If they'd named the show something else, it may have done better.

I never watched the show now but it's easy to see why it failed. On the 70's show the only people close to being stereo typical 70's were Bob, Hyde and Eric's mom. The two clips I saw had loud 80's music, too many people dressed as punks or douches and really bad imitations of 80's dancing.

I think the problem with this series is that they tried too hard to make them from the 80's. In that 70's show, sure it was set in the 70's, but they weren't robots trying to act like they were from the 70's. Basically, there wasn't a way to connect with these characters.

I'd rather just watch reruns of shows from the actual '80s. But it really could had been made a hit, if the show began the fall AFTER That '70s show ended. They could have started in like 1982 (Fall 1980-spring 1982 were basically a watered down late '70s with a sprinkling of some early '80s trends) when the '80s '80s began in 2006); and this fall we'd be up to fall 1986 (5th season); which means some Bon Jovi episode could have surfaced.
