He is forgetting one key element at the amateur level or "weekend" warrior level. If you're wanting to hit it lower, into the wind, you certainly need to slow the swing a tad but need to also drop a club or even two to make up the distance you'll lose hitting it into the wind and with that slower swing. It works for me. If you decide it's a normal 7iron and it's into the wind, choke down some on a 6 or even 5 and take your normal stance normally like Phil says, slow the swing to reduce spin.
He is hitting that shot in optimum conditions, in a tourny there is wind, there is pressure, there is lie, everything, but he is without a doubt, one of the greatest short game players to ever live.
most teachers play it back in the stance more but if Phil says this is how to play it, there will be no argument from me! Thanks Phil and it;s off to the range for me to work on this new concept!
@justinp766 Peter Thompson, 5 times british open winner because of his ability to hit low draws beneath the wind. pretty sure he would be classed as a great player in windy conditions
Also when putting the ball back in your stance your chances of pushing the shot are greater. That is for a RH golfer the ball would go straight but end right of target.
