I remember taping their concert off the radio (King Biscuit Flour Hour) and playing it countless times. I just loved their arrangements and vocals. Amazing album, amazing live performance.
TFF were always underrated as songwriters and performers by the media. (NME etc, - you should be ashamed!) We appreciated their talent, and still do. TFF's music is way better than the processed recycled crap the kids of today are fed.
Yes, this song is so complex in ryhtm and scales, but it´s so awesome when talented musicians compose those elements in this masterpiece. For me, who loves TFF and the most of their hits, this is their best song ever.
They will never cease to amaze me. To write such a complex song and perform it so perfectly - just freaking amazing! It could be the album track, but it isn't. I must have watched this VHS/DVD/Youtube clip 1,000 times and it it's still mind boggling. Every performance on it is perfection.
TFF did a performance live via satellite around 1985 New Years Eve on Dick Clark's rockin' show. they sung Shout if i remember correctly. they wore all black. does anyone have that performance in video? if yes please post it....tnx
@jumhed Yes. When friends tell me they want TFF Greatest Hits I caution them that if they go that route they will miss too much of the really good stuff. You have to at least buy the first two albums. Not that the rest aren't good, but the first two albums are completely gold. There isn't one song on either that I don't absolutely love every note on.
@pocketgoth I fully agree. There are some great TFF songs that never were made a single, never received a video, nor ever charted. "Me and My Big Ideas" from "Raoul and the Kings of Spain" and "Fish Out of Water" from "Elemental" are just two of them. They'll likely never be seen on any TFF compilation, but they're as good, or even better, than any of their hits.
Nicky Holland is so beautiful. She hasn't changed a bit since. I wish you could hear her vocals more in this. The most under rated band. Glad their back together.
80´s seems to be some kind of stranger in music history, those melodies so soft, elegant, original and harmonious!! I always love listening these melodies in my reflexive periods, preferably in autumn, sometimes I wonder where they get inspiration...
Just LOVE this............ Curt is so CUTE I can hardly stand it. Had posters of them all over my walls in the first place I lived in when I moved out of home.
I'm going to get Orzabal's hairstyle and cool sweater. This is because i want to know how it feels to be a bad@ss!!!!! TFF rules, (as I laugh, but yet keep thinking about that cool hairstyle?)
The Hurting is the album that gave the band a face, but all of their albums are magnificent, from Songs from the Big Chair to Saturnine Martial and Lunatic to Elemental, it keeps going.
The shot between 1:54 and 1:57 is pure class! This album is arguably the greatest TFF album because it truly is an embodiment to what their music is essentially about.
this is such an under rated song!the music ;Roland and Curt wrote this when they were 21!the line "touch the hurt and dont let go....." keeping all those painful memories hidden will only mean you never get over it.that is so very true!
wow, this is the first time I've heard this song. I've liked tears for fears since I first entered my teens, which was a little more than 10 yrs ago. And I still like them. But I've never heard this song before. Does anyone even realize the complexity of this song? Its genius, a work of their finest art! Amazing music, as expected from them! This is now one of my all time favourite tears for fears songs! I also like "Mad World", it's my autistic anthem..pretty much my biography in a song.
you are right cometoanend...that is what so especial about TFF, their songs are always thought of and each one has deep meaning in it that just pierce through your heart and soul...Tears for Fears are geniuses and their songs are nothing but masterpieces!
This is my favourite TFF song ever. Everything about it, every single part of it is just amazing. I especially like the break in the middle. Wow. Im 18 now and just came across them a couple of months ago after seeing the Sowing The Seeds Of Love video on tele-which was weird, since they NEVER play TFF..hehe
I have this DVD. I have always been into this band. The bass line is great. I think it's great how their movement & voices are so nsync. They did not do this song this past summer during the concerts but the one I went to was great.they were def nsync and having a blast. hope you get a chance to see them next summer. They are wanting to do some shows at that time - dates pending Curt Smith keeps us up to date so far. Just go to his website, he will give the info as he pleases. He's a cool guy.
thanks cometoanend...I've just been reintroduced to this great duo about two months ago and never let go...I was familiar with their song when i was young, but never really appreciate their greatness till well, after hearing Adam Lambert's take on Mad World...and just had to re-discover TFF myself...and happy that i did :-)
been fan of these pepole since i was 6 years old, the first song was this one on the television molther was watching it. then about a week later i came across the hurting. it seemed to soothe me mentaly (bad homelife..very) has ever since. now im 15 years old. i have drawn these peole curt and roland for many years and i get alot of support for it. want to see? check my youtube page - background it is knowhere near my best. i love tears for fears, i would love the support of whoever reads this.
I like the way they are moving their guitars in sync. Hehe. But this song makes u want to do this. the beat is so strong and u just have to move to it! I love it!
This is a brilliant song! Notice how all the little melodic and rhythmic motives introduced in the intro, verse and chorus are repeated at the end and blend so harmoniously. They make it sound simple and easy but that's difficult to write. They expanded on this later with Head over Heals which is even more complex. These are rare qualities in pop music.
Yes, you are absolutely right about whatever you mentioned. There are many people who overlook these facts and simply make fun of them for some mundane reasons. Even in their few seemingly simple melodic structures and rhythmic patterns, there are so many strands attached to them that only they themselves can truly re-create. They are very articulate yet intricate and magical musicians.
este video de tears for fears es un gran divdeo les recomiendo comprar el disco y este video de las scenes from the big chair igual los demas discos desde la era de curt smith
