You can also reach Thardus from the back, by approaching via the elevator in Magmoor :) On most no-spider runs they in fact have to cross through the Thardus boss room without triggering the boss fight, using a technique known as the "Thardus jump" >_>

Actually Nack, you can skip the Super Missiles because you can skip Thardus completely. A nice example of skipping Thardus is in Besmir 'Zoid' Sheqi's speedrun of the game. He did it in 1 hour and 3 minutes, which is INSANE.
