lol lol lol i can't believe i just witnessed that lol that just made my night. i ain't hating though. two thumbs up for attempting to crank that soulja boy. keep practicing boo
This is a great example of a classic home movie. The content is real life not manufactured media. It is centered around an everyday occurrence, a family trying to learn a silly dance together. It carries a very personal feeling as well. I'm surprised to see that it has over 3000 views. I guess Soulja Boy = views on Youtube.
This is clearly a home video, even just if you just focused on the background. It is in the living room, and there are side conversations continuously going on. Everyone is aware of the camera, but it is obvious that they are acting how they normally do without a camera watching them. It is a perfect representation of a home video, and also a good representation of the type of entertaining video that viewers want. Everyday people dancing to a popular song is what Youtube loves.
This video is a perfect example of a home video and a typical youtube video. The people in the video are well aware of the camera and the video documents an everyday event that could be used for an archival purpose for personal use or for entertainment of others as well.
What makes this a home video is that the kids know they're on camera, but they are aware it's a home video camera. If these kids were put before a camera at NBC studios they would understand that these cameras were capturing them for a wide audience. Even though this video is for YouTube, the casualness of the home video allows them to be conscious of the camera while not simultaneously self-conscious.
We discussed in class that we interact with home movies differently because they are real. This video is clearly real. My question is when did our culture began to doubt videos that appear real? When the first kid is asked "what do the college students learn in class", her answer seems too formal for a kid's response, especially when compared to the second kid who has trouble responding. I doubt this part even though the video is real in all other aspects?
I am merely commenting on how we seem to question our media no matter how real. I know this video is real but if something was scripted, it could be your daughter's answer. If i were your daughter's age and you asked me what college kids are studying on youtube, i probably say cute kittens & car crashes. I dont think i could come up with her intellectual answer and i wasnt expecting it given the silliness of this video. Perhaps im just dumb. Your kids are going to be serious scholars :-)

VIDEO WRITING TALK CONCLUSION: I conclude with one of my personal favorites, written in public, amateur, reflexive, visual, amateur, and convergence video writing styles, and utilizing humor, self-reflexivity, and some sincerity, too. Thanks for watching.

It's my daughter's REAL answer. That's who she is. Why do you doubt it/her? So interesting...
