I have a long history of anxiety, depression, anorexia nervosa and OCD. I am now in my 40s and recovering quite well through intensive talking therapy. I am totally aversed to CNS medications having been prescribed tricyclic antidepreassants and fluphenthixol in my teens which did nothing for my mental health - just gave me horrible physical side effects. I'd be interested in your viewpoint on anorexia nervosa. There is recent research evidence to suggest that it in part genetic (CONT....)
Some researchers suggest AN is a biologically based illness. This makes more sense to me than the suggestion that AN is related to the media and cultural pressure to be thin. My AN has been strongly related to control - of anxiety especially. I have a history of childhood trauma, although it is fair to say that I was anxious before my AN started. I also struggle with my identity and have social anxiety. I have a lot of faith in my current psychiatrist who has mentioned Complex PTSD.
Another anorectic/bulimic says: Yikes it's a long slog, and that's what was so reassuring to hear from Dr. Ross, that all of western culture is dissociated and that there aint no quick fixes. I really see no solutions other than support groups, because it's too expensive any other way. My A/B and OCD stuff didn't surface until I got into recovery and got memories back. Before that I was "normal". (Hah!)
Did you know that there is a lawsuit over Seroquel
