  • Hey man i love your vids they are enjoyable to watch and somewhat informative

  • @GUNSnGEAR1 Thanks my friend, I appreciate your kind words.

  • Hey Collin, when painting any surface, you pretty much always need to scratch the surface unless its a basecoat, remove the gloss to get it to be a mat surface! When painting metal, you need to remove the polish and you absolutely have to prime it before painting it! Best of luck to you and Happy Holidays!!

  • @TheAuspicious Yes my friend, I spent serveral hours sanding all the components and de-greasing prior to painting. Thanks for watching. COLIN

  • Nice one Colin can't wait to see the end results.

  • @MrBlakeFord Cheers my friend.

  • great vid

  • @alexpoz09 Thanks :-)

  • man, I see those componants all too often! we punch out on average, 150,000 of each seperate piece, each day. The die punches need servicing(sharpening on a surface grider) on average every ten to twenty thou on each die for each part. Great work my friend

  • @PHARRAOH Haha, yeah I bet you do Alan, I would love it there. :-)

  • Looks good Colin. I'd be curious to see how the paint holds up after some usage, will there be a video of that in the distant future? Hmmmmmm? *hint hint* ;-)

  • @Idahobo77 Thanks my friend, yeah I will be sure to do an update video in the future of the tool and how the paint is holding up :-)

  • Will baking the painted items improve the durability of the paint? I'm thinking of powdercoating just the handles if paint doesn't work too well but PC will increade the thickness by a hair.

  • @LoneRiderz I am not sure my friend. I would imagine powder coating would be a great option for the handles :-)

  • Looking good buddy

  • @QualityKnives Thanks Ash, hope you are having a great weekend

  • looking good my friend!

  • @1978graham Cheers my friend, take care.

  • Cool, bring on the finished project....Dash

  • @mrriprock2 Thanks Dash, i'll give it a week or so to cure. Hopefully the end result will work out :-)

  • Looking good Colin, awesome work, can't wait for the next part!

    Mike

  • @WeaponCollector Thanks Mike, made the mistake of moving the pliers today. Had to re-do part of it lol.

  • Duuuude, I cannot WAIT to see this finished! :D

  • @Smith28Adventure Cheers Smith, me either, I got too eager today and move the pliers, bad mistake lol. I need more patience

  • i was thinking if duracoat would be any better i wanna try it but afraid i wont get back together right

  • @nightwalker2830 Well I assume it would be much it costs alot more, I will stick with the paint for now.

  • bssst ...bssst Colin :-D

    You're a funny guy. I like your jokes. ;-)

    Great project my friend.

    I'm curious about the result.

    Have a good time.

    Greetings Tito

  • @Naturliebe Thanks Tito, take care.

  • Looks very interesting, please keep us updated on how it ages. Great project!

  • @rbejder Well do mate, thanks

  • Colin, looking good. If you find the paint doesn't want to stick buy a spray can of "etch" primer from an auto supply store or auto paint shop. It works better than normal undercoat. I use it on plastic and fibreglass car parts.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

  • @351xb1973 Hi Paul, thanks for the tip. I hesitated with the primer because I fear it may add too much thickness to the tool.

  • @351xb1973 I was going to recommend something similar, especially on something this size, and that you are going to be using so frequently. There are a few really good metal prep primers out there. Shouldn't be a problem to find. I will be sure to use this on any future golf basket spray painting, or any other item I paint. It'll just last so much longer. Peace, brother.

  • Looking good so far Colin, it should look pretty good once you get everything back together. Not sure how long the paint will last tho without primer on the metal first. A comment below says to try Duracoat next time, that might be a good idea, that stuff is pretty tough. Thanks for sharing. Take Care my friend :-))

  • @SurviveN2 Thanks Dragon, Duracoat is far more expensive. I think using primer would make it too think make the function of the tool difficult.

  • Hiya Colin, next time you do a project like this give duracoat a go.... That stuffs hard as nails apparently and will withstand plenty of abuse as it's designed for weapons. Nice mod though, you've got me thinking now. Lol, take care brother. {~_~}

  • @thedawnawakening Maybe its expensive though, this is cheaper and hopefully it works. If not duracoat it will be for the next project :-)

  • Lookin' good Bro! Gonna be a nice custom job when you're done!

  • @intenseangler Cheers John, take care

  • I really appreciate the detail you've taken in documenting every step, even the seemingly unimportant things. These are the things that will probably get somebody messed up, because nobody's shown them how to do it. So thumbs up for detail and, as always, keeping it real.

  • @sabr686 P.S. That golf bag and clubs in the background have GOT to be almost as old as you, my friend. I'd be afraid to hit a ball with them for fear of flying apart. But it seems to confirm something I've long believed: almost everyone has one of those old, (fake) leather golf bags with some no-name clubs hanging around in the garage, spare room, cellar or attic. There's got to be some other use for those antiques. Maybe we can melt them down into something else. Just thinking out loud...

  • @sabr686 Em, well the clubs are old, the bag and some of the clubs were given to me by a neighbour when I was about 12. They still perform fine. I have my junior Wilson 'Bernard Langer' 6 iron in there which I have had since I was 6. The other clubs are Dunlop, Wilson and Max Faulkiner. So NOT no name clubs mate. I would dominate most people of a course with these clubs.

  • @ColinOutdoors Ha haha! I was going to say Dunlop or Wilson in my last post. More proof for my theory. I guess we shall have to see some day. You pick the course, I'll pick the day, my friend.

  • @sabr686 Oh I have no doubt you'll beat me but my smack talk may put you off lol. Hopefully one day we shall hit the golf course together my friend.

  • @sabr686 Thanks

  • It's coming along nicely.

  • @shadowflight762 Cheers mate.

  • If u had put a primer layer down first the paint would stick better just a little tip also gret video :)

  • @motorbikesrule125 Yeah but I was worried the primer would add too much thickness making the tool hard to function.

  • @ColinOutdoors when i paint stuff i put some primer on and then sand it down so its not thick anyway it looks good

  • @motorbikesrule125 Ah, cool man, thanks for the tip. I will have to do that in the future. Thanks for sharing you knowledge :-)

  • @ColinOutdoors your welcome it just gives the paint sometthing to stick to and last longer

  • Cool as Colin look forward to the finished product, if after testing it for a while and it's not chipping too much il follow theese vids intensely

  • @county582 Cheers my friend, I appreciate your support.

  • I hope the extra thickness the paint adds won't make it difficult to re-assemble or work properly. Looks good though!

  • @teknifix Me too my friend,

  • Aw...!! Was trying to read the article on Somalian tribes burning summat;(

Not too convinced about painting a tool, but i hope it goes well, lasts long and prospers.

  • @69Phuket Yeah it may not be great but I hope it turns out well, take care.

  • Looking good, but what if you drop it in the woods? You may never find it! Cheers Colin :)

  • @AussieMark909 Well Mark, I could drop many things in the woods and never find them, black torch, green rucksack, green goretex jacket, green paracord etc. hasn't happened after all these years, I will take my chances with the Kick!

  • great project my friend, can't wait to see it all come together.

  • @Survivalonabudget Cheers my friend, looking forward to putting it back together :-)

  • Can't wait to see it finished!

  • @renzo260 Me either lol, thanks for watching.

  • Looking good so far! It'll be interesting to see the wear around the pivot points especially on the pliers head. Is it dry yet? :)

  • @kardredren Its dry, but I will leave it to cure for a day or two before putting it back together.

  • You really are putting in a great deal of effort on this project. I hope it works well. Keep us informed on how well the paint holds up on the blades. If it holds up well, I will give it a go. I have never liked the natural metal (silver color) on my multi-tools. I don't have much patience with small projects like this. I admire your diligence! Thank's always for your informative vids Colin.

  • @ksdj1 Thank you my friend. Yeah its quite a bit of work. I hope it turns out well. I must say though I am very impatient. As of writing this I can see the components hanging out the corner of my eye and I so want to put them together ASAP but I have to resist and let the paint cure for a couple of days lol. Take care.

  • OK, I have to ask: why would you need to have the leatherman painted? I must confess that some times I have a problem with your accent and can't understand what you are saying (my fault, as English is my second language) and you may probably have given a reasonable explanation.

  • @RobertoDonatti Hi Roberto. Well its really an experimentation. I love all MT's and making them unique is quite fun and makes the tool special. I hope it will turn out well. Thanks for watching, take care.

  • a lot of work man

  • @dragonflyhiker Sure is, hopefully it'll work it :-)

  • Bzzt...

  • @BoIwar Haha :-)

  • a tip to help the paint come out better and get a better flow. get a bucket or something and put hot water in it then put the can in the water upto the rim for about 5minute. It really does help the paint flow from the nozzle and cover better.

  • @knives357 Yeah cheers bud, learned that trick as a kid from my father. Did so prior to starting :-)

  • @ColinOutdoors oh nice, I was wondering if you knew it or not

  • @knives357 Yeah it was something I was taught as a kid. Cool tip my friend. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge :-)

  • Don't you think the paint will come off easily I wouldn't know I've never painted my knives before

  • @MrDeadpool25 Well from previous experience with the Kick it worked well with the handles. I wouldn't take all this time to prep and paint if I didn't think it would work :-)

  • Ha´ great wire system. Good job Colin, ...I think I could paint them to, but put the pieces together, ...no chance, haha. I would send them back and would get a new one, ...silver : ( ; )) Take care, my friend.

  • @Waldhandwerk Hi Sepp, thanks my friend. LOL yeah putting it back together may be difficult but I think the Kick is quite simpe (I hope). Your Surge would be a nightmare to put back together, to tough for me. Take care.

  • Great video, i wana see it all done!I'm thinking of getting the Leatherman Squirt ps4!

  • @freddiemjames Cheers buddy, yeah I want to get it assemble ASAP but got to let it dry and cure :-)

  • Comment removed

  • @freddiemjames Thanks man, The Squirt is a great tool.
