You should go to Elijah's Watch which is close to the Mysterious Cave. There is a unique tesla cannon on a table. Could be useful against robots and is also one of the single most expensive items in the game.

Also Dr. Borous kinda sounds like the dude from the cyrogenics lab in Futurama who says "Welcome from the World of Tomorrow" in the first episode.
