he shot himself in the head, he was a graduate teachers assistant at niu the year before but had transferred to isu and was on depression medications. There was a big controversy on campus regarding how many crosses to display in memorial to he tragedy; "five" for the 5 slain, or "six" including the suicide of the shooter. the churches tried to display 6 but one would always get kicked down

Hey GnrlDripik,who cares if this is, as you say, "nothing in comparison to VT or Columbine?" I was on campus when it happened, so you have no place saying a statement like that.

The deaths weren't on as grand a scale as VT, & the victims weren't in high school like Columbine, but that doesn't make it any less of a tragedy.

My girlfriend & roommate were in different buildings while we were under lockdown. I'll never forget that awful feeling of vulnerability.

As far as I am concerned, it is the schools right to protect these students... not even an armed security guard, or metal detector... yet they have their "gun free zone" signs posted that tells retired and off duty cops to disarm before they are on campus, yet the gunman went through unopposed, free to kill away.... no one was there to protect and defend these innocent people... people should be intelligent enough to know a sign WILL NOT PROTECT THEM.

I was was one of the first paramedics on scene... I am still in shock of what I encountered. I will not lie, I cried that night and I did transport one of the deceased.
