THIS IS TOTALLY UNSAFE ACCESS TO THE WELL! THIS CAST IRON CLOSER IS VERY BRITTLE AND CAN BREAK EASILY IF A HEAVY PERSON/ANIMAL STEP ON IT.  IT IS ALSO GOOD ACCESS FOR DOWNHEARTED PERSON FOR COMMITTING SUICIDE. I RECOMMEND THAT YOU REDUCE THE HOLE OR JUST CONNECT A PVC PIPE TO THE WELL AND CLOSE IT WITH CEMENT CLOSER.
