@maryriker A whole show being shut down because of ONE person's inability to correctly handle a dog? That sounds very unreasonable..Now I think that person does need to learn how to correctly handle an American Cocker Spaniel. They are handled that way to correct their positioning, but it should NEVER be done excessively as they are living creatures! Once or twice of positioning will suffice and does not hurt the dog.
I saw many handlers show the cocker spaniel fixing them for the tail and the neck , but definitly he gets the first award in roughnes and lack of control over himself, some handlers forget that dogs are alive and deserve been treated with love and respect. I can tell he was nervious showing this dog , and that was one of the reasons he was treating the poor dog in that way, the other reason is that he is a complet idiot who deserve to be kicked out of the ring by the judge !!
I wish that guy can try the same thing he did with the spaniel. The beautiful and poor spaniel already experience the uncomfortable preparations to be ready inside the ring thinking that after all those odds to look great he can easily and freely do his job when his turn in the ring comes. But the handler did not give him a chance to be more comfortable and give that freedom.WISH NO ONE WILL DO THE SAME THING LIKE THE HANDLER DOES :( .

Tss, that guy is shaking his dog as if it's some sort of doll. Personally I don't like dog shows in general. It has nothing to do with animal welfare, it's just a bunch of people showing off with their fancy purebred dog... Ironically common muts are often healthier than purebred dogs, that's why I would never go to a breeder - even if it was a breeder with a good reputation. People should pay more attention to animals in shelters.
@Kzinix Actually, mixed breed dogs and the whole "hybrid vigor" thing is only a myth. Since you are mixing two or more breeds together, you don't know what you are getting, and you may get the worst of each breed. And then what? I think it's smart for most people to go to shelters first when considering getting a dog unless they are willing to do a LOT of research on good show breeders, but never breed dogs without sufficient knowledge and research.
@Sandy33569 Hmm... I don't believe that it's just a myth, a variety of genes is perfectly healthy and that is something that many purebred dogs don't have. It makes sense to me.
Ok yes, swinging the dog around is too much but several breeds were bred to have sturdier tails so hunters could pull them out from a prey animal's hole.
@KonichiwaKowgirl This is true..Breeds like Smooth Fox Terriers can be picked up with one hand under the jaw/chest and one holding the tail since they were bred to be pulled out of holes by the tail when hunting, especially so they wouldn't get stuck. It doesn't hurt the dog at all. I don't know about American Cocker Spaniel tails though...
Who's being racist? A definition of racism: "abusive or aggressive behaviour towards members of another race on the basis of such a belief. racialism or racialism." Pretty sure I didn't behave aggressively towards anyone. Now who's being ignorant? My apologies for assuming Hong Kong had the same laws as mainland China.
That is terrible! Not at all normal nor acceptable!! Totally abuse. I think the guy is so wrapped up in winning (or trying to win) that he's not considering the dog at all! Awful. Maybe he didn't realize how rough he was being? If he sees this he might be embarrassed.
@CatherineCat22 I have never stacked my cockers that way and yet their coats lay wonderfully. Perhaps rather than just blindly doing whatever has been done in the past it might be a good idea to look at gentler ways of getting results.
He was trying to stack the dog but he certainly went way overboard with it. It's not appropriate to handle the dog that way. Too rough. The judge should have told him so.
That's why not a single puppy I've ever bred and I hopefully will breed will never go to Asia...... Doesn't sound politically correct, but IMO they don't know how to treat dogs properly.
i've shown dogs and when you pick up a dog like a cocker spaniel or some terrier sometimes you do pick them up with their head and tail, but only for a couple of moments. But this seems like a unexperienced handler, but in common dog sense you don't swing any dog, ever.
actually it is done often with breeds like that even smaller to fix the flaws in the way the dog is positioned or if the dog begins getting a little antsy and such, it is not cruel although i do not recommend you doing this on a normal day
I was going to say its not to bad, but near the end the guy seems to be swinging him too much. The dog looks trained enough to know how to stack. Seems like this is this persona way of stacking him w/o messing up the fur. While I doubt it hurts the dog becasue some were bred becasue they used their tails to pull them out of burrows(not sure bout cockers) but it woesnt seem to bother the dog, while its not nice to look at...
Oi, budday, how about I pick you up by your jaw and, hmm, let's see, your penis and give you a swing and a shake and we'll see how you perform afterwards ? Stupid, stupid, ignorant fool.
This is why I don't like dogshows. It's fucked up. It has nothing to do with dogs, but everything with breeders/owners. The only thing they want is to win, at all expenses....
This is appalling, he is a very rough handler, this is not necessary , we do not do this in New Zealand. I'd like to swing the handler around and teach him some manners. you can teach them to free stack with a little bait and practice . This is the very reason our hobby is under threat from animal welfare groups.
The show vet is patroling the show area often. If it would have hurted the dog to be handled like that he would have stopped the handler right away.
I am a junior handler. I've never handled Cocker Spaniel before, but i've handled West Highland White Terrier wich is handled in the exact same way. The judge have never said anything to me about my handling, neither have the owner and breeder of the dog...
9/10 of the Cocker Spaniels i've seen have been handled like this...
NO dog should at ANY time be treated like this! Not even the "unruly" dogs at training because it is simply ABUSE. Nad its not okay to do it at home either. So if it looks bad in the ring makes it okay to do it at home, where nobody can see it? Why treat animals like that at all?
If anyone handled my cocker spaniel like that they would get seriously beaten. This is complete dog abuse when the poor dog was paying attention to the moron.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well first off this is not the best in show ring this is the sporting group and second I'm a pro handler and all cocker people show there dogs this way. It is about exhibiting the best specimen in the breed he was handling well and grabbing the tail and the collar are a great way to stack a dog who isn't paying attention or if u want to show off a beautiful top line like that cocker had.
@rayj2187 Does that mean someone can swing you by your throat and legs if you think it's alright to do that to a dog. Your a bit of an idiot if you think that dog wasn't paying attention and there are other ways to show off how beautiful a dog is besides being so cruel.
@rayj2187 Than all "cocker people" are bad people. Cause I have NEVEr benn forsed to handle a dog like that in the ring. I can with pride say that I am good enough and have the skills to get the dogs attention in other ways in teh ring, without draging it around (strangle it) or yank its tail. With treats and lots of positive training you can get ANY dog to stand correctly in the ring.
Yes this dog did not need to be handled like that! You could always cup under his/her private to get a better grip. I mean you shouldnt grab a dogs tail like that for no reason.
@highwaygirl57 is right they are handled like this but never to this Extent it almost seemed like this guy had his life on the line and was taking it out on the dog, if i was that poor dog i would bite the handler and get kicked out of the Ring it is clearly the best in show ring judging that the other breeds are of other groups but even in the Best in show ring if its not fun for the dog your not in it for the right reasons
It is a sad fact of life that many animals suffer abuse of some kind during their lives. Abuse can take the form of physical assaults or punishment - but many suffer from the silent abuse of neglect. please support abused pets by visiting ABUSED-PETS DOT COM
Actually some smaller breeds of dogs, including terriers and hunting dogs tails and fused at the base, to where owners of the dogs could grab the tails and pull the dogs out of holes that the dog chased the "prey" down. You can google my response if you wish, I saw this on Dogs 101 as well as commentary at Dog Shows and Agility and Hunting trials. Its one of the bases on which certain dogs are judged.
This video is an exploitation of an observation taken out of context. Anyone making a profane comment without any experience in handling dogs is just an exploitive agent of PETA, and deserves to have their own bum pulled on as they are hung up by their necks.
Or they cold be honestly concerned peeps? I mean I hate PETA beause their hypocrits and I find this appaulling. If you read other comments, its not ness. to even handle a dog in this manner. Okay 50% of this is properly just what the camera makes us believe (another angle and it may reveal it wasn't so rough looking) but that doesn't change the concern at hand.
@pwddogman I HAVE HAD OWNED AND TRAINED MANY DOGS AND YOU MY FRIEND NEED TO BE TREATED EXACTLY LIKE THAT DOG. YOU ARE A FOCKING MORON! AND I WANT YOU TO REALLY ATTEMPT TO FIND A WAY TO TAKE THAT OUT OF CONTEXT YOU WANKER.
@koakamaka Interesting isn't it that "Koakamata" has to resort tu the use of two profanities and a threat against another person, to get a point accross.
Were we face to face, this would be grounds for arrest.
It is not necessary to handle a WELL TRAINED dog in this manner. Look at the other people. The judge does not seem to even notice. Nobody stops him. Nobody seems to care.Maybe an unruly dog that is being trained could be coerced with these tactics. But in the ring it is just awful. It looks bad. The dog is so used to being thrown around it does not even react to this poor treatment. Is this why entries at dog shows are way down?
@marilynbrinker I've heard that entries are way down due to cost of showing. I was in CA a year ago and the legislation requiring fees and fines for unspayed/neutered dogs had a huge effect on entries.
This is not dog abuse: it would be counterproductive for the owner to handle a dog in a dangerous way because he could hurt him and wouldn't show him anymore or would have to leave him to rest. This means that if this way is used on small dogs it is perfactly safe. And it's the only way to place them correctly, because the handler is too big and can't see well how he places the feet. So raising the dog from the ground and them lowering him makes the dog fing his own natural feet position.
Small hounting dogs like teriers or spaniels have very strong tails. It's important when they stuck in some kind of burrow and their owners just pull them up with those tails. That explains this video i guess ; )
I have one problem here, I have been part of the dog show community for many years, and ALL small dogs are handled this way, it doesn't mean that I personally agree with it, but thats how it is, I've had it explained to me a couple of different ways, but the one that has stuck with me is most of the time, most people are holding the neck also, and when they pick the dog up they aren't really 'yanking' on the tail of the dog.
Asian countries are notorious for animal cruelty. Just go to a Zoo in China. they put live goat out in the middle of a field to let big cats feed on them.
I never said that. but dog fights are at least illegal here. I'm just saying Asian countries tend to not be as respectable of animals as maybe western countries are. How is that racist?
what i am saying is that we are very disrespectful to animals, its just in a different way. and i agree that we have stricter legal punishments, but many similar abuses happen in both regions
I became racist after seeing what Chinese people do to animals and to what extend. Take a look at fur farms, restaurantas where they sell cats and dogs for fur. The bears that live in tiny cages in which they cannot stand and have no medical attention but are doomed to live there 4 their whole live with a tube coming out from their belly in order to extract stomach liquids used for old school stupid chinese medicine. wake up people.
These eople have no respect whatsoever for other creatures.
i think this dog handler is going over the top in trying to get his dog to stand square and i know he would have done this from a puppy so the dog is used to it which explains why he doesn't react, i do think it is unnecessary the way he is yanking him up in the air and swinging him, you can make a dog stand square without the need of swinging him by throat and tail!
Yeah okay, cause the tail of a American Cocker isn't connected to the rest of his body and spine, srry I forgot...
And most of the dogs bear silently abuse and cruelty of their owners. That's what made them victims for some strange egoistic events during their whole development.
But okay, just go on justifying disresepectful and painful treatment of a living, feeling creature...Hope you don't have any kids...
Who in their right mind would do that to their dog...its just cruel. Dont people realise dogs learn through praise and reward. Swinging them around like a rag doll will just teach "stacking" and "showing" is just an unpleasant experience. The dogs handler should be named and shamed......If he does that in public what the bloody hell goes on behind closed doors......Lets pull him around by his loose bits, see how he like it!!
Not abused, thats how They are placed to stack the Dog was being stubern and not holding still when he was stacked, if the dog was in any pain the dog would of sat on its rear or yelped and not even show for the guy, but the dogs tail is up as hes going around the ring showing that the dogs is perfectly happy, I show and Breed English Setters and have been to enough dog shows that some breeds are very stubern while in the ring.
Well that dog isn't showing any signs of enjoyment to me, in fact it's got no personality at all, he's been transformed into a robot. A dog who happily stands 4 square naturally without being pulled around just for the satisfaction of the handler is a happier dog. And don't you think the ones who act stubborn or digging their heels in are actually trying to tell you something....like they just ain't enjoying it, and want out the ring!!...seems to me you don't know how to read your dog.
bastard! TRAIN the dog if you want it to stand. And yes, I do know what I'm talking about haivng handled champions in the ring. Harsh handling like this is just unacceptable and totally unnecessary.
this is not abuse. it is a way to keep the hair from becoming tangled. you HAVE to stack a cocker like this. obviously, you have no idea what you are talking about
Fortunately here in the UK the KC has asked for the picking up of dogs by tails and leads to be stopped. Why? Because it is cruel? No because BBC viewers complained about it when broadcast at Crufts. Fortunately Crufts will not be broadcast this year. Does that mean handlers will revert back to this type of abuse?
I see your comment is not much liked. How absurd and cruel for someone to put the requirement of untangled coat before the requirement of comfort of the dog. It speaks volumes about you.
Not once in my life have I ever seen any handler stacking a Cocker or any other dog as harsh as that! Yes, I know most handlers will at least pick the dog up once or twice by its tail & neck just to get the dog's posture right but NEVER swinging three, four, five times like that! It's ridiculous! The dog's perfect already why need to go on swinging the bugger like that? Noticed when the dog moved down when he touched its tail? That's indicating that it DOES hurt & it doesn't like it.
HAve you ever shown a ACS? Obviously not if you think that is dog abuse. Once a cockers tail is docked, it has no feeling in its tail carrying on a quarter of the way up the dogs back. If the dog was in any pain it would retaliate, did it? NO! Get your facts straight before you start condemming someone who is probably alot better than you a dog showing and saying it is dog abuse. Look up dog abuse, then you will understand the definition of it!
Gee girl, relax! Have you ever shown an ACS before or any other dogs? I doubt so. I show my Goldens & Dalmatian so I KNOW these kind of things very well unlike inexperienced you. You talk bull. Besides, who posted this video & called it "Dog Abuse"? Certainly wasn't me & I would gladly ask the other Cocker handlers here in my country who show their dogs & ask them, is there ANY other Cocker handlers or any other small to medium breed dog handlers who swing their dogs around to stack it???
And then I will get back to you when I get the answers. Thank you. And in the meanwhile, do some research online since you have NO idea about dog show handling & how to handle a Cocker breed or any other dogs in this matter. Oh & yeah, FYI, I couldn't even recall myself saying ABUSE or even condemning this dude in any of my replies. Please get your facts right before you blast back at anyone. Thank you once again & have a wonderful day!
I breed ACS's!!! I Show them also, and as to you condemning this handler you kind of did in some respects, which you don't have the right to. He wasn't 'swinging the dog around' he was simply moving it backwards and forwads to get the dogs forelegs in the right place for the stack. He rewards the dog, he doesn't beat it, so whats so wrong about it? The dog isn't cowering or retaliating. So by no means is he being harsh to the dog, he wants to make the dog looks its best for the class.
Alright, so you breed ACS's & show them too. So I'm guessing you do the "swinging" method too or whatever you call it so maybe that's why you don't feel that this is a harsh method? I thought holding the dog by the neck & tail & moving it in the air back & forth a few times is called swinging? And ofcourse the dog wouldn't show any signs of retaliation, I mean, does it even have a choice? He can't run away or even hide, he's stuck with the handler, what can he do & besides, he's been trained...
to stack that way anyway & also been trained to get used to be handled that way. And if you watch the video very clearly, the dog DID cower. It's very clear near the middle part of the video. The moment the handler touched his tail, he already knew what's gonna happen to him. And I also do not see much love & care coming from the handler. He's just treating his dog like a trophy. His dog is lovely but I feel sad for it. And yeah, we ALL here do have rights to comment on what we like...
and say what we believe is right & what's wrong. Everybody here is allowed to express their feelings. So I do have the rights to judge on this handler because I believe the method he used was unnecessary. There is no need to swing the dog. Just use his hands to place its legs in the right place. Simple as that! Infact, I don't even think he needs to do that because after just one pick-up of the dog, it's stack is perfect already. And that's what MOST Cocker handlers do. Never swinging.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This is definately not abuse, the dog is in no way in any pain or discomfort. In any case anyone who has been involved in dog showing can tell you that while there may be a few 'bad apples' out there the majority of people involved in dog showing do it because they love the breed they are invloved with and want to promote it.
Somebody find this disgusting excuse of a dog owner and pull on his tail and neck and see how he likes it, I want to punch him in the nose and take all his dogs away he doesnt deserve to own a beautiful dog like that, and the judge is even worse how can he justify this treatment in the show ring
I love how the most praised compliments are the ones that blindly pass this off as abuse, but people who obviously know their breeds and are claiming that this is not abuse are getting the thumbs down, as I probably will for pointing this out. So I might as well make it good. If you think this was a poor comment, then eat a d!ck.
Training of a dog take place outside the show ring and prior to it being show.......this is a case of cruel handling. Infact is shows a lazy and poor handler who should have a better understanding of his dogs needs and welfare
Yes this is abuse, in the past many people did handle dogs in that way and around the world many handlers still do. The Kennel Club have confirmed that in thier view that NO dog should be handled in that way. The fact that many handles from overseas come to Crufts each year and do handle in that manner has been noted and such handling will n ot be tolerated in future.
i will tell you all something yes that was clearly bieng hald by the tail but that was not abuse you need to learn this like xxXGuenseyGirlxxX sai after thier tail has been docked they have no felling. the handler did not do anythin physicaly abusive to the dog.all he did was stack him/her.i am becoming a junior handler i would hate for the people how watch this to think handlers behave as you describe
You might want to think before you speak! That is clearly NOT abuse! Fare enough the handler could be a little more gentle when it comes to stacking the dog but that is not abuse. Is he beating the dog? NO! Starving the dog? NO! so get your facts right. American Cocker Spaniels after their tails have been docked have no feeling in their tail. And the handler isn't holding the dog 'by the neck' he is holding the under side of its jaw. YOu see him praise the dog when it does what he asks!
Very true and if you watch even the most prestigious dog shows and the best handlers they will lift the dog off of the stacking table with the tail. does it look like the dog is in any pain? I have shown Cockers before and it is very tough to stack them without lifting the tail because the amount of hair and how far back the legs go
Well there's 4 of them he's doing.....and what a load of BS, if you think a dogs tail has no feeling once docked....thats just an excuse to use it as a handle, your just totally ignorant. A dog's tail is an extension of its spinal column, and feels pain. So I suggest YOU get YOUR facts right and learn a bit more about your dogs locomotive system!!
Look up animal cruelty. That is not assult, that is not maltreatment! And if you knew anything about american cockers you would clearly know that one their tail is doecked they have no feeling from their tail until a quarter of the way up their back. The dog doesn't show anysigns of pain whatso ever, so it is clearly not abuse.
Youre 1 stupid cow if you truly believe that your dog has no feeling in their tail & a quarter of its back, try sticking a pin in your dog in that area and see, I guarantee there will be pain reaction. You obviously no nothing about dogs, a creature who could bite you if they wanted too. People like you who continue to mistreat them for your own satisfaction make me sick. All you care about is a stupid ribbon, how sad are you. Treat your dogs with respect, and maybe they will do more for you.
This is definitely dog abusive to me! I have been to many dog show but I never seen any cocker handlers would hold on to the neck of the dog and SWING them like that. I agree you can lift up the cocker by holding on to the neck as to other toy dog, however, you DO NOT SWING the cocker like what I have seen in the video clip. THe handler in the video clip is call Stanley. Dog Breeder avoid selling dog to Stanley is because this man is well known in not treating his dog nice but abusive to the dog
I'm agreeing with Sandy on that. Cockers were bred with tails that allows them to be pulled on. This is typical and it does not hurt the dog at all. I've seen Cocker puppies who scream over a little cut have their tails pulled on and not say a word. Dog shows are restrictive and if it was even considered a hint of abuse the judge would have thrown them out and been disqualified.
Know your breed history and dog structure before passing unfounded judgments. Your lack of knowledge is apparent.
handling an American Cocker Spaniel, and for breeds such as West Highland White Terriers, which, if you look them up, were BRED with the high set, long tail, for that purpose!
Look up West Highlands, you'll find that when they hunted, they had their tails bred that way so they could easily pull them out of holes if needed, without hurting the dog at all.
There are certain breeds, such as the American Cocker Spaniel, and my breed, the Shih Tzu,that can be lifted by the tail more safely..
You CANNOT lift a Lab's end,for example,by the tail, because of how it is set low,so THAT isn't good for the dog.
Now,with a breed like the American Cocker and my breed, the Shih Tzu, who have high set tails, you can lift them up by the tail very often and won't hurt them, because it is set high. In fact, it is part of correctly
For animal advocates... everything is an abuse

Too rough. The judge should have told him so.

podkowalesna 10 months ago
i've shown dogs and when you pick up a dog like a cocker spaniel or some terrier sometimes you do pick them up with their head and tail, but only for a couple of moments. But this seems like a unexperienced handler, but in common dog sense you don't swing any dog, ever.
bellaxedward132 10 months ago
actually it is done often with breeds like that even smaller to fix the flaws in the way the dog is positioned or if the dog begins getting a little antsy and such, it is not cruel although i do not recommend you doing this on a normal day
brunotheboxer1 10 months ago 2
I was going to say its not to bad, but near the end the guy seems to be swinging him too much. The dog looks trained enough to know how to stack. Seems like this is this persona way of stacking him w/o messing up the fur. While I doubt it hurts the dog becasue some were bred becasue they used their tails to pull them out of burrows(not sure bout cockers) but it woesnt seem to bother the dog, while its not nice to look at...

This is appalling, he is a very rough handler, this is not necessary , we do not do this in New Zealand. I'd like to swing the handler around and teach him some manners. you can teach them to free stack with a little bait and practice . This is the very reason our hobby is under threat from animal welfare groups.

NO dog should at ANY time be treated like this! Not even the "unruly" dogs at training because it is simply ABUSE. Nad its not okay to do it at home either. So if it looks bad in the ring makes it okay to do it at home, where nobody can see it? Why treat animals like that at all?

Well first off this is not the best in show ring this is the sporting group and second I'm a pro handler and all cocker people show there dogs this way. It is about exhibiting the best specimen in the breed he was handling well and grabbing the tail and the collar are a great way to stack a dog who isn't paying attention or if u want to show off a beautiful top line like that cocker had.
rayj2187 1 year ago
@rayj2187 Does that mean someone can swing you by your throat and legs if you think it's alright to do that to a dog. Your a bit of an idiot if you think that dog wasn't paying attention and there are other ways to show off how beautiful a dog is besides being so cruel.
VickieM123 1 year ago
@rayj2187 Than all "cocker people" are bad people. Cause I have NEVEr benn forsed to handle a dog like that in the ring. I can with pride say that I am good enough and have the skills to get the dogs attention in other ways in teh ring, without draging it around (strangle it) or yank its tail. With treats and lots of positive training you can get ANY dog to stand correctly in the ring.

Is this why entries at dog shows are way down?
marilynbrinker 2 years ago 20
@marilynbrinker I've heard that entries are way down due to cost of showing. I was in CA a year ago and the legislation requiring fees and fines for unspayed/neutered dogs had a huge effect on entries.

luckylaurencat 2 years ago
This is not dog abuse: it would be counterproductive for the owner to handle a dog in a dangerous way because he could hurt him and wouldn't show him anymore or would have to leave him to rest. This means that if this way is used on small dogs it is perfactly safe. And it's the only way to place them correctly, because the handler is too big and can't see well how he places the feet. So raising the dog from the ground and them lowering him makes the dog fing his own natural feet position.
simplymary91 2 years ago
Small hounting dogs like teriers or spaniels have very strong tails. It's important when they stuck in some kind of burrow and their owners just pull them up with those tails. That explains this video i guess ; )
cieczew 2 years ago
I have one problem here, I have been part of the dog show community for many years, and ALL small dogs are handled this way, it doesn't mean that I personally agree with it, but thats how it is, I've had it explained to me a couple of different ways, but the one that has stuck with me is most of the time, most people are holding the neck also, and when they pick the dog up they aren't really 'yanking' on the tail of the dog.

i think this dog handler is going over the top in trying to get his dog to stand square and i know he would have done this from a puppy so the dog is used to it which explains why he doesn't react, i do think it is unnecessary the way he is yanking him up in the air and swinging him, you can make a dog stand square without the need of swinging him by throat and tail!

WOZATKINS 2 years ago 2
Not abused, thats how They are placed to stack the Dog was being stubern and not holding still when he was stacked, if the dog was in any pain the dog would of sat on its rear or yelped and not even show for the guy, but the dogs tail is up as hes going around the ring showing that the dogs is perfectly happy, I show and Breed English Setters and have been to enough dog shows that some breeds are very stubern while in the ring.
bakacosplayerz 2 years ago
Well that dog isn't showing any signs of enjoyment to me, in fact it's got no personality at all, he's been transformed into a robot. A dog who happily stands 4 square naturally without being pulled around just for the satisfaction of the handler is a happier dog. And don't you think the ones who act stubborn or digging their heels in are actually trying to tell you something....like they just ain't enjoying it, and want out the ring!!...seems to me you don't know how to read your dog.
WOZATKINS 2 years ago

heireb 3 years ago
Fortunately here in the UK the KC has asked for the picking up of dogs by tails and leads to be stopped. Why? Because it is cruel? No because BBC viewers complained about it when broadcast at Crufts. Fortunately Crufts will not be broadcast this year. Does that mean handlers will revert back to this type of abuse?

Not once in my life have I ever seen any handler stacking a Cocker or any other dog as harsh as that! Yes, I know most handlers will at least pick the dog up once or twice by its tail & neck just to get the dog's posture right but NEVER swinging three, four, five times like that! It's ridiculous! The dog's perfect already why need to go on swinging the bugger like that? Noticed when the dog moved down when he touched its tail? That's indicating that it DOES hurt & it doesn't like it.
AmberFaithChloe 3 years ago 2
HAve you ever shown a ACS? Obviously not if you think that is dog abuse. Once a cockers tail is docked, it has no feeling in its tail carrying on a quarter of the way up the dogs back. If the dog was in any pain it would retaliate, did it? NO! Get your facts straight before you start condemming someone who is probably alot better than you a dog showing and saying it is dog abuse. Look up dog abuse, then you will understand the definition of it!
xxXGuernseyGirlXxx 3 years ago
Gee girl, relax! Have you ever shown an ACS before or any other dogs? I doubt so. I show my Goldens & Dalmatian so I KNOW these kind of things very well unlike inexperienced you. You talk bull. Besides, who posted this video & called it "Dog Abuse"? Certainly wasn't me & I would gladly ask the other Cocker handlers here in my country who show their dogs & ask them, is there ANY other Cocker handlers or any other small to medium breed dog handlers who swing their dogs around to stack it???
AmberFaithChloe 3 years ago
And then I will get back to you when I get the answers. Thank you. And in the meanwhile, do some research online since you have NO idea about dog show handling & how to handle a Cocker breed or any other dogs in this matter. Oh & yeah, FYI, I couldn't even recall myself saying ABUSE or even condemning this dude in any of my replies. Please get your facts right before you blast back at anyone. Thank you once again & have a wonderful day!
AmberFaithChloe 3 years ago
I breed ACS's!!! I Show them also, and as to you condemning this handler you kind of did in some respects, which you don't have the right to. He wasn't 'swinging the dog around' he was simply moving it backwards and forwads to get the dogs forelegs in the right place for the stack. He rewards the dog, he doesn't beat it, so whats so wrong about it? The dog isn't cowering or retaliating. So by no means is he being harsh to the dog, he wants to make the dog looks its best for the class.
xxXGuernseyGirlXxx 3 years ago
Alright, so you breed ACS's & show them too. So I'm guessing you do the "swinging" method too or whatever you call it so maybe that's why you don't feel that this is a harsh method? I thought holding the dog by the neck & tail & moving it in the air back & forth a few times is called swinging? And ofcourse the dog wouldn't show any signs of retaliation, I mean, does it even have a choice? He can't run away or even hide, he's stuck with the handler, what can he do & besides, he's been trained...
AmberFaithChloe 3 years ago
to stack that way anyway & also been trained to get used to be handled that way.
AmberFaithChloe 3 years ago 2
and say what we believe is right & what's wrong.
AmberFaithChloe 3 years ago
This is absolutely abuse, no doubt. How cn he treat his dog like that? No matter what the cause, the dog does not deserve this kind of treatment.

Yes this is abuse, in the past many people did handle dogs in that way and around the world many handlers still do. The fact that many handles from overseas come to Crufts each year and do handle in that manner has been noted and such handling will n ot be tolerated in future.
lehlam 3 years ago
i will tell you all something yes that was clearly bieng hald by the tail but that was not abuse you need to learn this like xxXGuenseyGirlxxX sai after thier tail has been docked they have no felling. the handler did not do anythin physicaly abusive to the dog.all he did was stack him/her.i am becoming a junior handler i would hate for the people how watch this to think handlers behave as you describe

YOu see him praise the dog when it does what he asks!
xxXGuernseyGirlXxx 3 years ago
Very true and if you watch even the most prestigious dog shows and the best handlers they will lift the dog off of the stacking table with the tail. does it look like the dog is in any pain? I have shown Cockers before and it is very tough to stack them without lifting the tail because the amount of hair and how far back the legs go
SwishBrookDobies 3 years ago
Definitions of Abuse
1; Use to bad effect of for a bad purpose
2; Maltreat; assult.
3; Incorrect or proper use
4; Unjust practice
Well there's 4 of them he's doing.....and what a load of BS, if you think a dogs tail has no feeling once docked....thats just an excuse to use it as a handle, your just totally ignorant. A dog's tail is an extension of its spinal column, and feels pain. So I suggest YOU get YOUR facts right and learn a bit more about your dogs locomotive system!!
WOZATKINS 2 years ago
Look up animal cruelty. That is not assult, that is not maltreatment! And if you knew anything about american cockers you would clearly know that one their tail is doecked they have no feeling from their tail until a quarter of the way up their back. The dog doesn't show anysigns of pain whatso ever, so it is clearly not abuse.

Dog Breeder avoid selling dog to Stanley is because this man is well known in not treating his dog nice but abusive to the dog
yelperm 3 years ago 2
I'm agreeing with Sandy on that. Cockers were bred with tails that allows them to be pulled on. This is typical and it does not hurt the dog at all. I've seen Cocker puppies who scream over a little cut have their tails pulled on and not say a word. Dog shows are restrictive and if it was even considered a hint of abuse the judge would have thrown them out and been disqualified.
Know your breed history and dog structure before passing unfounded judgments. Your lack of knowledge is apparent.
yeshua68 3 years ago
handling an American Cocker Spaniel, and for breeds such as West Highland White Terriers, which, if you look them up, were BRED with the high set, long tail, for that purpose!
Look up West Highlands, you'll find that when they hunted, they had their tails bred that way so they could easily pull them out of holes if needed, without hurting the dog at all.
Sandy33569 3 years ago
Actually this is not abuse..
