idk originaly i thought was clean goal but if you look at 1:00 to 1:07 he does sorta make contact with kippers blocker but either way idk what i would call it imma a flames fan so yeah and the wings probably beat us cuz they always do lol
@patrickpoo Not even Kiprusoff believes in your fairy tale. He doesn't argue anything after the goal. He just accepts that he is beat. The clowns of the rink (refs) had something else in mind :(
I don't think it's the best explanation, but if you watch the replays at 1:02 ond 1:13 you can see Kipper's stick was pulled to the left by Cleary's skate, if it hadn't been stuck there it would have been covering his 5-hole, and it would have easily stopped that shot. I agree with the call.
@HuskyHockey29 I completely agree with what you are saying. Even though Cleary never had any physical contact or prevented any cross-crease movement by Kipper, he did prevent Kipper from properly covering his 5-hole. All the same, I wish more Refs would make calls for Goalie Interference and dissallowed goals where they should be. Lets face it, we see a lot of goals that ARE allowed when a player clearly interferes with the goalie. BTW, I'm a Wings fan for those who may want to call me biased.
Clearly, all goalies cry when a Red Wing is on the fringe of the crease because they know that about 1/5 of the time they will get a good goal against waived off.

@map2091 He's only on the stick after the puck goes in, if you look at the second angle kippers got his stick in the air until he goes down in the butterfly. IMO it's a really bad call.

But before, he had his skate in the blue paint, and at the same time the puck passes the goaltender, the player stands on his stick ... that's the rule, the goal mustn't cont ...
You Flames fans are classic. I bet if this happened to your team in the playoffs you would say it was a goal. If you deny that fact, then I hope in fact it does happen to the Flames in the playoffs just so we can be sure!
i'm pretty sure they made this call because cleary was standing on kippers stick, which was definitely keeping him from making the save. if you watch from 1:04 to 1:07, you can see cleary's skate on kipper's stick.
I havent seen that call in years! I mean I am not a Detroit fan, but you see some players that are on top of the goalie and there is no call, Cleary was barely in his crease. Bad call.
The flames had an almost identical call against them last year. A player is not allowed to be in the crease hampering the goaltenders movement. Sure he never made much contact with kipper but he prevented him from coming out to the top of the crease to cut down the angle. I guarantee the ref was yelling at cleary to get out of the crease the entire time. The refs made the correct call, it is a pretty weak reason to call it off though, but it is the rule
Worst call ever. That SAME PLAY HAPPENS HUNDREDS of times every night across the league. There is NO CREASE VIOLATION RULE in the NHL anymore. He didn't hit the goalie and his heals were barely touching the blue paint. Terrible call. And I'm saying this as a fan of the NHL, not the Wings. ONLY ppl who will say otherwise will be stupid f-ing canucks on here. GFY's Flames, that's a goal every time.
LMAO @ trying to act like this is the Wings from the 70's. The curse will not end in Chicago. Blackhawks are 1-1-1 with Hossa in the line up. And not to mention the Blackhawks was voted worst sports franchise in ALL of sports. Make the playoffs for more than 1 yr and not becoming obsolete after that. Say bye Toews as well. Kane and Hossa will be over 50% of the cap in Chicago after this yr.
How am I taking life too serious??? I'm just pointing out that Chicago will follow in the footsteps of the Wings and Pens and not win a Cup with Hossa. I wouldn't wish Hossa on any Original Six team.
I see I hurt your chat feelings. Seems like you need to take your own advice. You throw up things from over 25 yrs ago and i'm the one taking it too serious. Classic denial case. But regardless of that. Dec 20th and 23rd will be here soon and we'll get to see 2 good back to back (home and away) games. The Central will be decided by the Wings or Hawks.
When the Wings are healthy they're an NHL elite team. I give alot of credit to the Hawks for the playoff march they had last yr. Being as 4 out of 5 teams from the Central made the playoffs. But Hossa isn't the missing piece. Experience is. The Hawks won't win a Cup for a few more yrs, but by that time they may lose a few people due to the cap. The big deal they gave Hossa is well overpaid.
Isn't this the exact reason they have Toronto in place? Surely those guys could contact the refs and let them know that there was nothing illegal going on.
"If an attacking player establishes a significant position within the goal crease, so as to obstruct the goalkeeper's vision and impair his ability to defend his goal, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed." - From the NHL Rulebook, and it goes by the on ice official's judgement, I think its a good call personally, Cleary was in the crease, and hampered Kipper's ability to come out and make the save.
Read the next paragraph: "For this purpose, a player establishes a significant position within the crease when, in the Referees judgment, his body, or a substantial portion thereof, is within the goal crease for more than an instantaneous period of time."
He didn't have a substantial portion of his body within the goal crease. It does say it's the referee's judgment, but in this case his judgment sucks.
So screening the goalie is illegal? We all know it's not. Only thing Cleary did to "hamper" Kipper from making the save was the deflection of the puck. Keep trying.
It wouldn't be *that* big of a deal if it hadn't become a pattern in the last few games. Brad May had a goal that was waved off when the ref couldn't see the puck because it was inside the net.
Looks like a pretty good call to me. There's quite a few angles where you can see Cleary's foot move Kiprusoff's stick out of the way before the puck goes in and last time I checked, intentional or not, you're not allowed to physically intefer with the goalie when he's trying to make a save in his crease. I don't really understand how anyone can argue against this call unless they're completely ignoring the physical contact Cleary's making with Kiprusoff, it's plan as day.
lol, it would take Stevie Wonder to not see that Cleary's foot prevents Kiprusoff from covering his five-hole with his stick. He's in the blue paint and preventing the goalie from making the save which, according the rule-book quotes posted in other comments, makes this a reasonable call.
you dumb fucking jagaloon there is no reason for that goal to be disallowed if he was in the crease the ref should have blown the play dead and the faceoff would be outside the refs will do anything to fuck the wings right up the ass
Your last response said there was no contact and the call was made based on a rule that's 10 yrs old. Both things were false and what you've switched to now doesn't matter. Watch the video and you'll see that his feet are in the crease, then his left foot slides out stopping Kiprusoff's stick while his right foot stays in the crease. Sounds like it meets the criteria for interference to me and therefore was a call made 100% within the rules and if not, explain how, don't just whine and cry.
Cleary moves his left foot out of the way for a clean deflection. Which it was. Kippers' stick blade is out of the crease and swept towards Clearys' foot. But to say Cleary intentionally kicked Kippers' stick is absurd. Chris Lee is the love child of Dan O'Halloran and Dennis Larue.
I don't think you quite understand the rules... It doesn't matter which foot is or isn't in the crease, they both belong to Cleary, so if he's so close to Kipper that his right foot is in the crease while his left foot is interfering with the goal stick (directly leading to a goal in this case) then it's an interference call, read the rules (establish position in crease = yes, prevent goalie from making save due to positioning = yes).
I know the rules. And by the rules you and the ref are wrong. He didn't prevent Kipper from anything. Kipper moves his stick in Clearys' elevated foot. Granted it wasn't elevated by much, but Kipper could have made the stop and never tried saying it was interference. You can tell he never looked at the ref. Kipper could move to the left, but with a clean deflection by Cleary it wouldn't have made any difference. It's a BS call. Regardless of what team it was called on.
no you don't know the rules. The skate on stick had nothing to do with the call. The rule is that you can not be in the crease impeding the goalies movement. It is clear that that happened. Had cleary not had his position in the crease Kipper would have been able to use his crease to come out and cut down the angle like a goalie should. That is the reason the glencross goal was waved off last year, and same reason this time.
So screening a goalie is illegal? By what you're saying it is. Cleary even moved his leg out of the way. Kipper could move to his left, which is where the puck was heading and Cleary deflected it. And sorry, Glencross' BS was a goal too.
You really need to re-read my post. Screening is totally legal, as long as you do not impede a goalies movement in the crease. In that sort of set up the goalie would come out to cut down the angle. Cleary prevented him full movement in the crease. Yes he could move to the left but that is not where he was impeding him. Positioning is 95% of goaltending. That is why the crease is the size and shape that it is.
So Kipper couldn't leave his crease and that's why the goal was waved off? Makes no sense. He had all the room in the world in his crease. Shit most peoples apartments don't have that much space. I've seen screens 100 times worse than this one and the goal wasn't disallowed. And Kipper would have stopped the shot by Stuart if Cleary didn't deflect it. And if Kipper would have made the stop this wouldn't be an issue of BS waived off goals.
holy cow are you simple..... Where did I say he could leave his crease??? frick, READ WHAT I WROTE. Are you 12? He has the right to his full crease right to the outer edge. Cleary denied him that. The Ref would have been yelling at him to clear the crease, he did not, thus no goal. really, most people have apartments less than 15 square feet hey. do you live on the moon?
LMAO. And you call me simple. Anyways, the point is Kipper seen the play the whole way, made the move to his left and had a left pad save until Cleary deflected the puck. The 1"-2" that Clearys' heel took up didn't impede him from making a save. No goalie interference was called, Therefore good goal. Like I said before, the rule was taken away 10 yrs ago which would have made this a no goal.
They took the blanket no touching the crease away, but they have a rule that you cannot impede the goalie from using his whole crease. With his body factored in it would make about a 6 " difference, not 1 or 2. That 6" is huge when you factor it into the shot coming from the point. The fact he tipped it does not matter. If you don't know the rules stop commenting. and you don't need goalie interference to disallow the goal. These announcers did not know the rules. typical americans.
It's funny how you make all other Canadians look bad with your garbage. I'm not going by the announcers, i'm going by the rules in the NHL. Seems to me you need to learn a little bit more than you think you know. Stop spouting your ignorance and making Canada look bad. Some of the best people I know are Canadian and they're laughing at you and your comments.
yes, I am making them laugh, but at you. I was of the same opinion after the glencross goal last year. However, It was explained later that game that by the rules it was in fact not a goal. I will take a proffesionals knowledge of the rules when they have the official rule book right in front of them. this entire time you have not actually read my words and kept skewing them to try and make yourself look smart. if you knew what canadians actually felt about americans.......
If, after any contact by a goalkeeper who is attempting to establish position in his goal crease, the attacking player does not immediately vacate his current position in the goal crease (i.e. give ground to the goalkeeper), and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed. In all such cases, whether or not a goal is scored, the attacking player will receive a minor penalty for goalkeeper interference.
Also, I never said it was intentional and I don't really believe it was, not that it matters, intention has nothing to do with interference. As I've already said:
"you can see Cleary's foot move Kiprusoff's stick out of the way before the puck goes in and last time I checked, intentional or not, you're not allowed to physically intefer with the goalie when he's trying to make a save in his crease."
Cleary never touched Kippers' stick until he moved it into Clearys' foot. So by the rules it should have been an interference call on Kipper and the goal should have stood with the delayed penalty wiped out.
soooooo......none of holmstrom's goals should ever count? i don't get the call. i do get the rule, but he pretty much called him for screening the goalie.
the refs for the last few wings games all have sucked badly blowing the whistle for a shot after the puck is in the net a few days ago now this one, the refs need less power over what goal counts and don't count other wise its just allows them to change the out come of the games
how helpless does this make everyone feel, not only as a wings fan, but as a hockey fan, knowing that the game isn't in the players hands anymore. i was livid after the may disallowed goal, but i don't know what to think anymore, i mean it was obvious that the finals were pretty much called in favor of the pens, but damn i though a new season would clear my head
You know, too many people always say "it's only one game." But in reality, one game could make all the difference in April. This has been two games that the refs have directly (and incorrectly) affected the outcomes of a red wing game just this season. I think enough is enough and something seriously needs to be done about this. This is beyond just mistaken calls....
@cousinbill18 No shit they r trying to ruin the red wings franchise and bring in this new age pussy penguins franchise who cant win without 10 powerplays and every call in the game because crosby is a diving whining douche
the funny thing was that the ref said that the reason it didnt count is because he wasnt letting the goalie do his job and this makes no sense cause things like screening the goalie (which is legal) doesnt allow him to do his job
Seriously awful, Bettman get off your dead ass and do something about your fucking ref's, they're ruining the game of Hockey. Even for me, and who know's how many others.
Mother fucking refs! I've seen so many bad calls this season it's incredible. And it happens no matter who is playing who! Fucking zebra morons, stop deciding games and let them play!

ignoring that 1:12 to 1:16 clearly refutes this as kipper is moving his stick the entire time, the blade of which is not under a skate
flingshotmonkey 2 years ago
I havent seen that call in years! I mean I am not a Detroit fan, but you see some players that are on top of the goalie and there is no call, Cleary was barely in his crease. Bad call.
mmvrockerz 2 years ago
Wow 2 dissallowed goals by refs against the Wings in a week????? Really? Are they just trying to grab at straws now? That was fuckin bullshit!!!!
miguelisms 2 years ago 2
The flames had an almost identical call against them last year. A player is not allowed to be in the crease hampering the goaltenders movement. Sure he never made much contact with kipper but he prevented him from coming out to the top of the crease to cut down the angle. I guarantee the ref was yelling at cleary to get out of the crease the entire time. The refs made the correct call, it is a pretty weak reason to call it off though, but it is the rule
99kokanee 2 years ago
This is soooo true, it works both ways.
coop08 2 years ago
Worst call ever. That SAME PLAY HAPPENS HUNDREDS of times every night across the league. There is NO CREASE VIOLATION RULE in the NHL anymore. He didn't hit the goalie and his heals were barely touching the blue paint. Terrible call. And I'm saying this as a fan of the NHL, not the Wings. ONLY ppl who will say otherwise will be stupid f-ing canucks on here. GFY's Flames, that's a goal every time.

But good call, since I'm a Blackhawks fan.

Hossa curse what???
dm101176 2 years ago
Not if the standings are any indication.
The Hossa curse vanishes in Chicago.
Dead Wings what???
ClearCut83 2 years ago
LMAO @ trying to act like this is the Wings from the 70's. The curse will not end in Chicago. Blackhawks are 1-1-1 with Hossa in the line up. And not to mention the Blackhawks was voted worst sports franchise in ALL of sports. Make the playoffs for more than 1 yr and not becoming obsolete after that. Say bye Toews as well. Kane and Hossa will be over 50% of the cap in Chicago after this yr.
dm101176 2 years ago
You sound a little upset about Hossa moving....
Detroit is a great franchise no doubt; but don't take away from Chicago.
1-1-1 in the last 3, but you obviously have no idea that the Hawks had the Circus road trip..
4-1-1 in the last 6, all away from home. Don't take life too seriously dm..
ClearCut83 2 years ago
How am I taking life too serious??? I'm just pointing out that Chicago will follow in the footsteps of the Wings and Pens and not win a Cup with Hossa. I wouldn't wish Hossa on any Original Six team.
dm101176 2 years ago
You bring up irrelevant information.
What does Hossa have to do with Chicago being voted the worst franchise in all of sports?
What does Toews and Kane have to do with the teams 1-1-1 record since the returning of Hossa?
Nothing. Don't get too upset and start involving useless facts that are irrelevant to the discussion.
In other words, don't let the converstation get too serious. It's not that big of a deal lol.
ClearCut83 2 years ago
I see I hurt your chat feelings. Seems like you need to take your own advice. You throw up things from over 25 yrs ago and i'm the one taking it too serious. Classic denial case. But regardless of that. Dec 20th and 23rd will be here soon and we'll get to see 2 good back to back (home and away) games. The Central will be decided by the Wings or Hawks.
dm101176 2 years ago
Please tell me what I brought up from "over 25 yrs ago".
ClearCut83 2 years ago
So the term "Dead Wings" isn't from the 70's????
dm101176 2 years ago
haha...wasn't even talking about the 70's
But yeah, we'll see how the two teams are shaping up soon enough.
ClearCut83 2 years ago
When the Wings are healthy they're an NHL elite team. I give alot of credit to the Hawks for the playoff march they had last yr. Being as 4 out of 5 teams from the Central made the playoffs. But Hossa isn't the missing piece. Experience is. The Hawks won't win a Cup for a few more yrs, but by that time they may lose a few people due to the cap. The big deal they gave Hossa is well overpaid.
dm101176 2 years ago
Also, an FYI, the "DEAD WINGS" started before the 70's.
'67 or '68, I don't remember.
That's of course, if you still want to bring up irrelevant topics.
ClearCut83 2 years ago
'67-'82. Then the Yzerman Era started. But the 70's are more notably known as the "Dead Wings Era".
dm101176 2 years ago
At 1:07 Cleary is standing on Kiprusoff's stick. It's a good call.

What a shitty call
JakeEwing5 2 years ago
Isn't this the exact reason they have Toronto in place? Surely those guys could contact the refs and let them know that there was nothing illegal going on.
Ajnidehs 2 years ago
"If an attacking player establishes a significant position within the goal crease, so as to obstruct the goalkeeper's vision and impair his ability to defend his goal, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed." - From the NHL Rulebook, and it goes by the on ice official's judgement, I think its a good call personally, Cleary was in the crease, and hampered Kipper's ability to come out and make the save.
Cj31mpsha 2 years ago
Read the next paragraph: "For this purpose, a player establishes a significant position within the crease when, in the Referees judgment, his body, or a substantial portion thereof, is within the goal crease for more than an instantaneous period of time."
He didn't have a substantial portion of his body within the goal crease. It does say it's the referee's judgment, but in this case his judgment sucks.
mcprogrammer 2 years ago
So screening the goalie is illegal? We all know it's not. Only thing Cleary did to "hamper" Kipper from making the save was the deflection of the puck. Keep trying.

It wouldn't be *that* big of a deal if it hadn't become a pattern in the last few games. Brad May had a goal that was waved off when the ref couldn't see the puck because it was inside the net.

projecthydro420 2 years ago 3
Looks like a pretty good call to me. There's quite a few angles where you can see Cleary's foot move Kiprusoff's stick out of the way before the puck goes in and last time I checked, intentional or not, you're not allowed to physically intefer with the goalie when he's trying to make a save in his crease. I don't really understand how anyone can argue against this call unless they're completely ignoring the physical contact Cleary's making with Kiprusoff, it's plan as day.
nwj55 2 years ago
Stevie Wonder even says it's goal. There was no contact. The rule the ref was making the call on hasn't been around for at least 10 yrs.
dm101176 2 years ago
lol, it would take Stevie Wonder to not see that Cleary's foot prevents Kiprusoff from covering his five-hole with his stick. He's in the blue paint and preventing the goalie from making the save which, according the rule-book quotes posted in other comments, makes this a reasonable call.
nwj55 2 years ago
you dumb fucking jagaloon there is no reason for that goal to be disallowed if he was in the crease the ref should have blown the play dead and the faceoff would be outside the refs will do anything to fuck the wings right up the ass
tomroehl1 2 years ago 2
And it takes a troll to say it wasn't a goal. Keep trying. The foot that supposedly caused Kipper from covering his 5-hole isn't in the crease.
dm101176 2 years ago
Your last response said there was no contact and the call was made based on a rule that's 10 yrs old. Both things were false and what you've switched to now doesn't matter. Watch the video and you'll see that his feet are in the crease, then his left foot slides out stopping Kiprusoff's stick while his right foot stays in the crease. Sounds like it meets the criteria for interference to me and therefore was a call made 100% within the rules and if not, explain how, don't just whine and cry.
nwj55 2 years ago
Cleary moves his left foot out of the way for a clean deflection. Which it was. Kippers' stick blade is out of the crease and swept towards Clearys' foot. But to say Cleary intentionally kicked Kippers' stick is absurd. Chris Lee is the love child of Dan O'Halloran and Dennis Larue.
dm101176 2 years ago
I don't think you quite understand the rules... It doesn't matter which foot is or isn't in the crease, they both belong to Cleary, so if he's so close to Kipper that his right foot is in the crease while his left foot is interfering with the goal stick (directly leading to a goal in this case) then it's an interference call, read the rules (establish position in crease = yes, prevent goalie from making save due to positioning = yes).
nwj55 2 years ago
I know the rules. And by the rules you and the ref are wrong. He didn't prevent Kipper from anything. Kipper moves his stick in Clearys' elevated foot. Granted it wasn't elevated by much, but Kipper could have made the stop and never tried saying it was interference. You can tell he never looked at the ref. Kipper could move to the left, but with a clean deflection by Cleary it wouldn't have made any difference. It's a BS call. Regardless of what team it was called on.
dm101176 2 years ago
no you don't know the rules.
99kokanee 2 years ago
So screening a goalie is illegal? By what you're saying it is. Cleary even moved his leg out of the way. Kipper could move to his left, which is where the puck was heading and Cleary deflected it. And sorry, Glencross' BS was a goal too.
dm101176 2 years ago
You really need to re-read my post. Screening is totally legal, as long as you do not impede a goalies movement in the crease. In that sort of set up the goalie would come out to cut down the angle. Cleary prevented him full movement in the crease. Yes he could move to the left but that is not where he was impeding him. Positioning is 95% of goaltending. That is why the crease is the size and shape that it is.
99kokanee 2 years ago
So Kipper couldn't leave his crease and that's why the goal was waved off? Makes no sense. He had all the room in the world in his crease. Shit most peoples apartments don't have that much space. I've seen screens 100 times worse than this one and the goal wasn't disallowed. And Kipper would have stopped the shot by Stuart if Cleary didn't deflect it. And if Kipper would have made the stop this wouldn't be an issue of BS waived off goals.
dm101176 2 years ago
holy cow are you simple.....
99kokanee 2 years ago
LMAO. And you call me simple. Anyways, the point is Kipper seen the play the whole way, made the move to his left and had a left pad save until Cleary deflected the puck. The 1"-2" that Clearys' heel took up didn't impede him from making a save. No goalie interference was called, Therefore good goal. Like I said before, the rule was taken away 10 yrs ago which would have made this a no goal.
dm101176 2 years ago
They took the blanket no touching the crease away, but they have a rule that you cannot impede the goalie from using his whole crease. With his body factored in it would make about a 6 " difference, not 1 or 2. That 6" is huge when you factor it into the shot coming from the point. The fact he tipped it does not matter. If you don't know the rules stop commenting. and you don't need goalie interference to disallow the goal. These announcers did not know the rules. typical americans.
99kokanee 2 years ago
It's funny how you make all other Canadians look bad with your garbage. I'm not going by the announcers, i'm going by the rules in the NHL. Seems to me you need to learn a little bit more than you think you know. Stop spouting your ignorance and making Canada look bad. Some of the best people I know are Canadian and they're laughing at you and your comments.
dm101176 2 years ago
yes, I am making them laugh, but at you.
99kokanee 2 years ago
No, they are laughing at you.
Like I said, no penalty, good goal.
dm101176 2 years ago
Also, I never said it was intentional and I don't really believe it was, not that it matters, intention has nothing to do with interference. As I've already said:
"you can see Cleary's foot move Kiprusoff's stick out of the way before the puck goes in and last time I checked, intentional or not, you're not allowed to physically intefer with the goalie when he's trying to make a save in his crease."
nwj55 2 years ago
Cleary never touched Kippers' stick until he moved it into Clearys' foot. So by the rules it should have been an interference call on Kipper and the goal should have stood with the delayed penalty wiped out.
dm101176 2 years ago
The explanation by the ref is a freaking joke ... just because he was in the crease, doesn't mean he can't do his job, and I abhor the Red Wings

the refs for the last few wings games all have sucked badly blowing the whistle for a shot after the puck is in the net a few days ago now this one, the refs need less power over what goal counts and don't count other wise its just allows them to change the out come of the games

The game is ruined.
Just ruined.

how helpless does this make everyone feel, not only as a wings fan, but as a hockey fan, knowing that the game isn't in the players hands anymore. i was livid after the may disallowed goal, but i don't know what to think anymore, i mean it was obvious that the finals were pretty much called in favor of the pens, but damn i though a new season would clear my head
cousinbill18 2 years ago 8
You know, too many people always say "it's only one game." But in reality, one game could make all the difference in April. This has been two games that the refs have directly (and incorrectly) affected the outcomes of a red wing game just this season. I think enough is enough and something seriously needs to be done about this. This is beyond just mistaken calls....
Unbelievable.
