I'm a fan of Tarja, but I like Anette too. She does have a beautiful, clean voice, has a great attitude and does her job well (I imagine it must be quite difficult to adapt to her voice songs that were made to an operatic singer). Yeah I get sad too that the band I loved so much is not the same, but come on people, let's grow up...
@nightwish22893 I wasn't expecting anything from the album, and when I listened... I had a big surprise! Very consistent, mature, atmospheric... it makes me imagine a thousand things :) Also, the songs are really appropriate to Anette, allowing her to show how powerful her voice can be.
Anette is the most beautiful and talented woman in the world. I really do not care what all these random people online say, and she should not either. If you know anything about tone and pitch, you would know Anette does it better than Tarja. Yes, Tarja has amazing vibrato and an opera style which goes great with symphonic metal, but in actuality if you listen to her live, she often misses notes. Anette on the other hand is a more technical singer.

I have again listened to Tarja´s Siren. She sings hoh-hoh hoh-hooh-ooh in an abrupt way. These abrupt sounds fit better as a warning than a temptation.
Anette sings hay-yay-yay-yaah in a soft way. Her interpretation shows intelligence, she has pondered how a siren might sound to lure seamen and sings accordingly, she hasn´t copied Tarja.
There are better versions of Anette´s Siren than Lowlands, e.g. Hartwall 2009 with a virtuoso guitarist Pekka Kuusisto playing live.

Composing and interpreting a song isn´t only artistic but also intellectual work. Most of Tarja´s interpretations are good. On Siren she hasn´t analysed the song, her hoh-hoh´s and ay-yaah´s are some operatic stuff which don´t sound alluring. I have given different meanings to those sounds elsewhere (End of An Era) to make Tarja´s Siren more palatable for me.

@TheDevilHerslef In addition, Tarja´s Siren contains moaning-like, scary singing starting at about 2:20-2:40 which Anette luckily doesn´t copy. In my imagination a siren singing in this way would drive away seamen instead of luring them. Marco´s wailing singing fits truly well in Siren.
I think if Tuomas thought that Anette would butcher the song, then he wouldn't have let her to perform it at all. But in my opinion both Tarja and Anette do a great job on this song. Both have a different interpretation on singing it but it is essential still the same song.

Anette's tone here is actually very good with full resonance, but for this song it's too aggressive and fights against Marco's similarly powerful voice during the chorus.
Many people are not going to like what I am about to say, but that is alright. From a pitch perspective, Anette is always dead on. While Tarja was very good, she often improvised and hit middle of the road notes that were not supposed to be.
And everyone thinks Tarja is the most amazing woman ever but I must say that Anette is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen and has an angelic voice. Not to mention she is a team player, and not a selfish witch.

really anette needs an intensive course on melodic singing and to learn that every song has something called dynamics that along the song have different changes in intensity, intonation, emotion etc. This song has many of those dynamics going on that with anette singing u dont hear/ feel them... pitty honestly... the melodic harmony of the voices in the background of the song are ruined by her.. FYI this has nothing to do with opera style singing...

This song is about the sirens. They had very seductive voices and lured sailors to crash there ships into there rocky ledge. Tarja's voice had that seductive quality which Anette simply does not have. She is a great singer but this is he wrong song for here.

@TheDevilHerslef In addition, Tarja´s Siren contains moaning-like, scary singing starting at about 2:20-2:40 which Anette luckily doesn´t copy. In my imagination a siren singing in this way would drive away seamen instead of luring them. Marco´s wailing singing fits truly well in Siren.

I think if Tuomas thought that Anette would butcher the song, then he wouldn't have let her to perform it at all. But in my opinion both Tarja and Anette do a great job on this song. Both have a different interpretation on singing it but it is essential still the same song.

Anette's tone here is actually very good with full resonance, but for this song it's too aggressive and fights against Marco's similarly powerful voice during the chorus.

Many people are not going to like what I am about to say, but that is alright. From a pitch perspective, Anette is always dead on. While Tarja was very good, she often improvised and hit middle of the road notes that were not supposed to be.
And everyone thinks Tarja is the most amazing woman ever but I must say that Anette is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen and has an angelic voice. Not to mention she is a team player, and not a selfish witch.

Oh, and just because Anette's voice is different from Tarja's (which I'm glad) doesn't mean the song isn't good for her. really anette needs an intensive course on melodic singing and to learn that every song has something called dynamics that along the song have different changes in intensity, intonation, emotion etc. This song has many of those dynamics going on that with anette singing u dont hear/ feel them... pitty honestly... the melodic harmony of the voices in the background of the song are ruined by her.. FYI this has nothing to do with opera style singing...

Ah, Nightwish are great! No....Actually they are the number one symphonic metal band!! I wish Tarja was still with them but.... :(....Hope their new songs will fit better to Anette´s voice. The thing I love about Nightwish - both Tarja and Anette bring different emotions, and obviously sound, to the music. I love the old skool stuff, and I lvoe the new stuff. One of the best bands around :)

a few things ive noticed about reading the last few posts.
1. people cant get over Tarja who was kicked out of the band.. um.. like 5 years ago.. thats almost 20% of my LIFE ago
2. if the guys kicked Tarja out and chose Anette to replace her, then either respect it or stop listening.
3. nobody here understands business obviously, even tho the background is infact the orchestra they recorded with, if they wanted to use a recording of Tarja they could. her work belongs to the BAND - business 101

This song is about the sirens. They had very seductive voices and lured sailors to crash there ships into there rocky ledge. Tarja's voice had that seductive quality which Anette simply does not have. She is a great singer but this is he wrong song for here.
