Great trucks, I used to have one but as you can see in the video their weakness is that they do not have locking diffs. I manage to get mine stuck on a slight upgrade on a public road once! in a pinch they are only 3 wheel drive. Unfortunatley the ex-soviet counterpart to our duece was MUCH more capable. My next truck will be a Ural 6x6.
The Ural's are great trucks, but they were not the only soviet 6x6's trucks in their army, they also had Kraz and Tatra .. something or other .. trucks. Not that american trucks aren't any good, they have some awesome hardware too. :)
Personally, I love the Kraz 255B, it looks like it's at war, even when parked next to a kindergarden, in the summer, while being used as an icecream van. Offcourse, it's bloody HUGE and hard to get free once it does get stuck, which is rare.
Good points Jesus 45U. I am starting to favour the Tatra 8x8 (czech rebuplic actually) as these seem to be the ones to beat in the European truck trials. One of these bad boys would make a great motorhome in which to circle the globe; which I intend to do someday soon!
Ah, if you intend to go on an expedition, you'll find that availability of spare parts is an important factor too. In fact, when it comes to making an Overland Vehicle / Expedition Vehicle, a lot of work goes into making sure you have a vehicle that fits the environment. I would recommend reading the guides on expeditionportal com before throwing money at anything.
Seems most people go with Land Rover Defenderss, Toyota Landcruicers and Jeeps.
maxll6x6 where did you source your tires? What size are you running? Any clearance issues or modifications you had to do to run the tires? I'm looking for a tire upgrade and really dig your setup! Great vid!.

Front needs a locker, do the rear axles have one(s)? It a lot of truck to move up a mud hill to.
