It doesn't have to have a cloud touch the ground. Tornadoes can be completely invisible from cloud base to ground. It's condensation and what it picks up that gives it it's color. A tornado technically is a cloud just like the cirrus/cumulus/nimbus/alto/strato family.
"No it aint neither." I think that dude was trying to agree with you with a very tricky triple negative. Awesome footage. I can't not unbelieve that you weren't not indirectly not under it neither. Simply wicked.
That was no microburst, what you have there is a good demonstration of a LP (low precipitation) tornado. Doesn't appear to be an LP Supercell Tornado, but nonetheless, you can have a tornado that you cannot see a having full connection to the ground if 1. You see a funnel cloud, and 2. You see a dust swirl under it.
haha i work there

that's a funnel cloud, not a tornado, the NWS says that its a Tornado only when it touches the ground.
But that is friggin scary

it did touch the ground, did you watch the video?

(And this summer I'm working for the NWS ;) )

I know that this truckstop is on the south side of I-70 but this tornado appears to be moving westerly. That seems wrong but maybe it's just me.

I liked how your lady friend there waited for the funnel tip to articulate about your direction before she freaked out ;)

Thats not a tornado, it's a funnel cloud. Tornados actually touch the ground.

Funnel clouds don't do damage, see the debris being kicked up. There are some additional pictures on the fickr set too.

It is the tornado, the condensation funnel hasn't hit the ground. But it has touched the ground.
