It's kind of rare that you see a gerbil that's not moving 6 billion miles per minute LOL no just kidding I have a snow white gerbil named Leonidas and a midnight black one named Sparta they move very fast but I still ruv dem
@fuckshitupcr3w If it's mom's first nest then it could just be that she is a little inexperienced. If the parents aren't breeding stock then it could also be that the pups are smaller cause their health isn't as good. If the litter is bigger, usually the pups are smaller also. It is also very, very important that you feed the mother double the amount of food she normaly gets. Feed her how much she wants. Be sure to give her lots of animal protein in teh form of live food, or dog/cat kibble.
@Eye4Photography92 Appels don't contain any animal protein. You could feed them mealworms, but you have to make sure that your suplier takes good hygene in breeding them. Sometimes the mealworms have ecoli. Make sure the holding tank is very proper (brown dust = poop). You could also give dog or cat kibble. There are different opinions about what is better. Cat food contains way more protein, but also way more salt. There have been no studies to the effect of feeding them cat/dogfood
@rubyred710 Usually there is a discharge, and like any very sick gerbil they sit still alot. And the coat goes all 'puffy' in stead of being nice and smooth. They look like little furballs. When you keep them close to your ear you can sometimes hear a weeze. Whatever you do, keep your remaining gerbils in quarantine because repitory infection is HIGHLY contagious.
@zotteke1991 thats pretty much exactly how he was, thanks. when i had him i didnt have any other gerbils so i didnt have to worry about it being contagious. i dont have any more gerbils now cuz they got infested with mites and got sick from them. then the bugs sorta infested my house, hmm i had a lot of gerbil problems...
@rubyred710 Oh boy, i hate mites too. I got them, and out of sheer misery i got rid of every single gerbil i owned. They are impossible to get rid off. It got so bad, that the mites even went on me and my family and we were covered in little red bitemarks. The loss of blood killed a lot of my gerbils. Even an extremely rare one and all her offspring. A mutation which only 3 gerbils have ever had that ive known of. I'll try to post a vid of her soon btw, if my computer decides to cooperate.
@zotteke1991 yeah same it took a few months to get the mites completely out of my house and my gerbils died from the blood loss, one even a couple days after my bday :(
@rubyred710 oh no, sorry to hear that! The only thing which helped (temporarily) was the 404 spray from Beaphar. It might have a different name where you come from, im from the netherlands. If it ever happens again, be sure to spray absolutely your entire house incl. cars and for instance a desk chair at your work. Repeat after 2 weeks, and if you wanna be sure, again after a week or so. It'll cost you a fortune too. A lot more than what it costs to prevent it =\
@rubyred710 if ur gerbils ever get a respitory infection if u have any like pill things docters give u for strep just put one in water let it desolve then stir it then get a very small turky baster i dont know what the little ones are called so yeah but anyway pike ur gerbil up buy its neck like its mom would then give them a little bit of it do that every other day till they stop makein weezeing sounds cause that means its gone i know this works cause my gerbils had it then they were better
If I had a mouse and she won't feed her babies will my mama gerbil take them in as her own if her litter of babies are 6weeks and the mama mouse's littler are 2 days?
do they ever get the respitory infection or stuff cause i want to breed gerbils but i dont wanna deal with the respitory infection. and where did you get your gerbils
i have had problems with respirtory infections yes. and as soon as one has it.. they've all got it =[. if you do not want to deal with RI, you should not have gerbils AT ALL, most certainly not breed. the vet bills pile up very quickly if you dont catch a RI going through your animals quick enough.
I got my gerbils from about 10 different breeders. most in holland, 1 in denmark and some (through dutch breeders) from germany.
can someone messege me telling me why their is a long stripe on my gerbils belly? i can like see his inards but im too afraid to touch inside and feel his heart or something lol
i cant help but say awww an think they look like little pokemon lol

octobertucker 2 years ago
you don't have to give them any medicine, though the mama and puppy's need a lot of extra animal protein.

i think youre talking about your gerbils' scent gland. you cant really see 'inside' them through their scent gland though.
