@Cafeblanx Memorization is the first run of the reading ladder for babies, and then kids begin to naturally deduce the rules of phonics so they can decode new words they have never seen before. I taught my own children this way, and yes, my two year old is reading at a second grade level and decodes all kinds of new words and absolutely adores books. Videos and a link to the software we used are available on my channel. Teaching your baby to read is one of the best things you can do for them!
Of course she recognises the 'picture' of the word! Thats how everybody learns to read! But equally she will also begin to recognise the letters so even if shes never seen a new word she will recognise the letter and remember the sound that they made and piece together the way the word should sound.
Shes a very clever little girl but then every child has this potential, especially with this DVD and the effort the parent puts into play/read with them.
tis is brilliant- well done to emily. thought i was hallucinating when i recalled the commmercial to my husband (as had teleshopping on at 3am whilst sitting up with sick baby) but here's the proof!
although she is recognising the "picture" of the words, it is a valid method of reading and it's something we all learn eventually anyway, or it would take half an hour for the average adult to read what i just said. breaking words into graphemes and phonemes comes later
Wow - this is wonderful! Emily is an inspiration for parents to help their children to read - at earlier age than most expect to do so. Thanks for the info and the video.....Emily is terrific! and so cute
sounds like she really wants her mommy lol

I've seen this done before and the children seem to enjoy it - coupling this with baby-sign language helps to develop thier brains brilliantly.
But then again, it doesn't make them any more or less intelligent than somebody who learned to read when they started school.

I was just wondering how you started teaching your daughter this? My godson is three and we're having a hard enough time getting him to talk.

Hi There,
This video is great. Did you use an educational program to teach her to read or a certain method?
YBCR 5 years ago
We used the 'Your baby can read' method. It's works a treat !
