@larrytrevino21 They both take the same amount of skill. Neither requires more skill than the other. Just one has long range and the other doesn't. You don't have to aim with either one. I use the gnasher on occasion too, but I usually stick to the sawed off. I also have been playing since the first Gears of War, so don't judge what games I play by what gun I use. I hate Call of Duty and always have. Its called adapting. I have and clearly a lot of you other veterans haven't.

@gears4444 Apparently the guy who helped with balancing the game thinks the Gnasher is just fine even if it 2 shots people in a range that the Sawed-off can't reach and 1 shots people in the same range of the sawed-off and has 6 shots and a quick reload whilst its counterpart only has 1 shot and a very long reload time with less ammo.

The sawed off is for those that wanna wall bounce. I wall bounce sometimes and to be honest with you it's not really fair to that person, so I understand gears figuring a way to combat that. Just last night I went up against a couple of people that played with the sawed off, but I got the upper hand because I didn't just run around corners or get close. I blasted they ass from a distance. Gnashers have to just adjust. It's in the game and it's not going anywhere. It's fun to use too
You obviously have not played Gears 1 or 2 and don't understand why it is such a good game. Gears is hard to play and always has been, SOS is easy to use, therefore SOS should not be in Gears. I agree with change in gears, Digger, Oneshot and Incindieries were all great additions, but the base weapons should not change. HB, Lancer and Gnasher. If SOS was a power weapon I would have welcomed it. But it has just killed public gears for me.

Lancer is used as a support weapon to hold off choke points while your teammates push up with gnashers to get the kills. Gnasher is the kill weapon, Lancer is for support.
Point blank the gnasher can kill from a further distance than the double barrel, plus it has the ability to be a one shot kill. The double barrel can kill multiply enemies that are in the same spot, but reload time is slow, plus distance is null and void. Each gun has it's strengths. If you don't wanna get caught reloading with the double barrel, then get the gnasher. If you would like to kill multiply enemies at the same time then get the double barrel. What's the problem. Why argue over this?
@bonamus It's because it promotes camping and requires no aiming what so ever, if you miss with the SOS you actually are mentally challenged. And the reload is long yes but you will have ample time to reload after you kill them, if not you can reload while running. Gnasher has been part of gears forever and requires much more skill to play with. It has been a hard game to get good at and that is why many people liked it. SOS and Retro lancer for that matter, have broken that.

@bonamus I use strategy more than most but SOS is still ridiculous, if it was a power weapon then it would be fine. That way you would actually have to push up before you could use it. However as it is you go find a corner straight off spawn and wait for the other team to come to you, no effort required. The reason missing with the sawed off is so bad is the 150 degree spread so you don't have to aim. Gnasher Experts don't camp, some players that use gnasher do but good players don't.

@gravityhammer25 Sawed off rewards players with a kill without even aiming. The Gnasher requires you to be agressive, and aim. You get punished for missing shots by losing battles. Gnasher can get a 1 hit kill yes, but you have to take the risk of putting yourself that close and possibly missing your shot, which results in you getting gibbed by the other guy. With sawed off theres no risk, just point, shoot, profit. You dont have to aim with it because of the magnetism.
Where did I say I only use the SOS??? I'm a low level player wiping the floor with the Gnasher. Gnasher you have mid range shotty battles for whoever gets downed first. Hip fire is easy especially with wall bouncing, blind fire easy. Both are super easy to camp with!! Gnasher has magnetism too. Plus I have seen people miss with the sawed off and they have a very long reload, then i kill them because the gnasher has alot of shots and good rate of fire.

The Gnasher is fucking easy to use!!!! You fool it is a shotgun which scatters pellets in a cone. If you cant hit with the Gnasher you dont know how to aim. You have to be fucking kissing your enemy to use the SOS. Fucking melee range, useless against the gnasher. Check corners and down or gib the SOS user before they get to close and you CANT be killed by the SOS, and once again gnasher is very easy to use. @BloodyAbyss1216 You obviously don't watch many competitive matches. Try watching a hypefestation or KoTC event and you'll see that wall bouncing and straifing is used way more then Hard Aiming. Hard Aiming was used so much in GoW2 because it gave a damage boost, but they took that out in GoW3. There are times where hard aiming is still used such as if you have right hand advantage, but wall bouncing is generally used more.
Ya ya, this is entirely luck no skill, but you'd all be pissing your pants if he hit a blindfire torque bow double headshot, which is JUST as much luck as anything.

Everyone loved Gears of War 1 for being a very original, competitive title that rewarded people who took risks and challenged people and punish those who camped for too long. It was fast, exciting, and probably the best game of all time.
Now In gears of war 3, pushing is punished, and sitting in your spawn with a hammerburst with a SoS in your back pocket in case you get pushed is rewarded.

Everybody that plays gears of war display a little bit of both. You can't just keep getting lucky kills, some skill is involved as well and even though you may have superb skill you can still die. are you serious the sawed off is perfectly balanced. You can get close and insta-kill with the gnasher too, and the gnasher has like 8 shots before you reload, but gnasher is also long range. Also, yes smokes and gernades are an option, thats called strategy, it requires you to think, not rush in and die. Also you can sacrifice your self if you feel like your good, the gnasher can kill at almost same range as sawed-off, so you both die. Also, maps are made for anti camping, there are always multiple entrances to an area. I am always on the move with sawed-off.

I've got to be honest in saying that I was absolutely sick to death of those gnasher duels that dominated gears of war multiplayer. I just don't have that level of skill to use a gnasher in a fight like that, and when I'm not good at something and I can't improve on it any further I like to look for an alternative. The problem was that there wasn't much of an alternative, and fair play to epic for trying to solve that problem, but even I would say that the sawed off goes too far.

I agree with you completely. Good players should be rewarded for their skill, and we don't need Epic to provide us with a weapon that is easier. What I believe though is that there should be a valid alternative to the gnasher for people like myself without disadvantaging gnasher users. I can get better, yes, but I'll never be as good as most people. My manual dexterity is too poor.

You can cry all you want but I doubt anyone who is so pro that they refuse to use the sawed off, could of got 4 kills with the gnasher in this situation. Some of you fail to realize that using the sawed off contributes to the full completion of the game, which a lot of gamers strive for.

@larrytrevino21 They both take the same amount of skill. Neither requires more skill than the other. Just one has long range and the other doesn't. You don't have to aim with either one. I use the gnasher on occasion too, but I usually stick to the sawed off. I also have been playing since the first Gears of War, so don't judge what games I play by what gun I use. I hate Call of Duty and always have. Its called adapting. I have and clearly a lot of you other veterans haven't.

@gears4444 Apparently the guy who helped with balancing the game thinks the Gnasher is just fine even if it 2 shots people in a range that the Sawed-off can't reach and 1 shots people in the same range of the sawed-off and has 6 shots and a quick reload whilst its counterpart only has 1 shot and a very long reload time with less ammo.

The sawed off is for those that wanna wall bounce. I wall bounce sometimes and to be honest with you it's not really fair to that person, so I understand gears figuring a way to combat that. Just last night I went up against a couple of people that played with the sawed off, but I got the upper hand because I didn't just run around corners or get close. I blasted they ass from a distance. Gnashers have to just adjust. It's in the game and it's not going anywhere. It's fun to use too

You obviously have not played Gears 1 or 2 and don't understand why it is such a good game. Gears is hard to play and always has been, SOS is easy to use, therefore SOS should not be in Gears. I agree with change in gears, Digger, Oneshot and Incindieries were all great additions, but the base weapons should not change. HB, Lancer and Gnasher. If SOS was a power weapon I would have welcomed it. But it has just killed public gears for me.

But anyway, if you look at any competitive game of Gears, you will mostly see gnasher gameplay becuase that is what we are used to from Gears 2. Lancer is used as a support weapon to hold off choke points while your teammates push up with gnashers to get the kills. Gnasher is the kill weapon, Lancer is for support.

The double barrel can kill multiply enemies that are in the same spot, but reload time is slow, plus distance is null and void. Each gun has it's strengths. If you don't wanna get caught reloading with the double barrel, then get the gnasher. If you would like to kill multiply enemies at the same time then get the double barrel. What's the problem. @bonamus It's because it promotes camping and requires no aiming what so ever, if you miss with the SOS you actually are mentally challenged. And the reload is long yes but you will have ample time to reload after you kill them, if not you can reload while running. Gnasher has been part of gears forever and requires much more skill to play with. It has been a hard game to get good at and that is why many people liked it. SOS and Retro lancer for that matter, have broken that.

@bonamus I use strategy more than most but SOS is still ridiculous, if it was a power weapon then it would be fine. That way you would actually have to push up before you could use it. However as it is you go find a corner straight off spawn and wait for the other team to come to you, no effort required. The reason missing with the sawed off is so bad is the 150 degree spread so you don't have to aim. Gnasher Experts don't camp, some players that use gnasher do but good players don't.

@LAXHBGaming When I first started play gears 3 they use to tear my ass up with the sawed off, so I said I'll fix them and starting learning how to use it on them. Now i'm a level three with the sawed off, but believe me I still get caught, but I use strategy to get people. I use the gnasher and the sawed off. The sawed off is just so much fun dude. You should try it before you complain about it. Plus it's for all the wall bouncing, myself included and I understand that.

@gravityhammer25 Sawed off rewards players with a kill without even aiming. The Gnasher requires you to be agressive, and aim. You get punished for missing shots by losing battles. Gnasher can get a 1 hit kill yes, but you have to take the risk of putting yourself that close and possibly missing your shot, which results in you getting gibbed by the other guy. With sawed off theres no risk, just point, shoot, profit. You dont have to aim with it because of the magnetism.

Where did I say I only use the SOS??? I'm a low level player wiping the floor with the Gnasher. Gnasher you have mid range shotty battles for whoever gets downed first. Hip fire is easy especially with wall bouncing, blind fire easy. Both are super easy to camp with!! Gnasher has magnetism too. Plus I have seen people miss with the sawed off and they have a very long reload, then i kill them because the gnasher has alot of shots and good rate of fire.

The Gnasher is fucking easy to use!!!! You fool it is a shotgun which scatters pellets in a cone. If you cant hit with the Gnasher you dont know how to aim. You have to be fucking kissing your enemy to use the SOS. Fucking melee range, useless against the gnasher. Check corners and down or gib the SOS user before they get to close and you CANT be killed by the SOS, and once again gnasher is very easy to use. I play many other shooters and genres dont call me a fanboy BITCH.

@BloodyAbyss1216 You obviously don't watch many competitive matches. Try watching a hypefestation or KoTC event and you'll see that wall bouncing and straifing is used way more then Hard Aiming. Hard Aiming was used so much in GoW2 because it gave a damage boost, but they took that out in GoW3. There are times where hard aiming is still used such as if you have right hand advantage, but wall bouncing is generally used more.

Everyone loved Gears of War 1 for being a very original, competitive title that rewarded people who took risks and challenged people and punish those who camped for too long. It was fast, exciting, and probably the best game of all time.
Now In gears of war 3, pushing is punished, and sitting in your spawn with a hammerburst with a SoS in your back pocket in case you get pushed is rewarded.

@iDuskk I still love gears of war regardless of how many mistakes I feel EPIC made, and I can still rest easy with the fact that EPIC is willing to listen to the community this time around, and really push for supporting this game on a competitive level, but I cant help but get upset when they implement things like the SoS just for new players who cant get good at the game. I respect all opinions on the game, but I'm standing behind my opinion that this game is better off without SoS/Retro

I honestly thought the sawn-off was going to be fun at first, I was sick of the stale gnasher duels that has plagued this game since GOW1. I thought a little change would be good for this game, but the sawn-off was way too drastic. It's ruining the multiplayer experience for many gears veterans, including myself. I don't want this gun to go away, it's so badass, but they need to nerf it bad

No. There are gnasher campers and rushers as well, this is why you are given multiple weapons (so you don't run in and get your face blasted off, one of this games main features is cover, it's not "run and gun" it's strategy, Gears of War, not CoD) Gnasher can instakill at almost the same range as sawed-off. I have seen people camp with gnasher and kill and call it skill

@Gamndon I agree with you on that one. Everybody talking about the gnasher takes skill, but all these weapons take skill and some luck as well. Everybody that plays gears of war display a little bit of both. You can't just keep getting lucky kills, some skill is involved as well and even though you may have superb skill you can still die. That the name of the game. Just like you said it's a game of strategy.

IMPOSSIBRU. this gun gives noobs a fighting chance that they dont deserve. are you serious the sawed off is perfectly balanced. You can get close and insta-kill with the gnasher too, and the gnasher has like 8 shots before you reload, but gnasher is also long range. Sawed-off is ONLY close range if you are dumb enough to let an enemy get close to you it's your fault not the sawed-off. You have rifles and the lancer for a reason, it slows and kills enemies rushing you -_- . Sawed-off is ONLY ONE SHOT. and there is also a long reload hows it fair stop being so butthurtt

@Gamndon Your argument is good and all, But Gears is a action paced 3rd person shooter, Everyone is supposed to be moving around getting kills/ finishing objectives. I don't exactly think it's our fault when your running around the corner and you get noob blasted by a guy that's been camping in a choke point for over five minutes. I've seen alot of people who do that and frankly it's disgusting. They do that in KOTH all the time. The only way to get them is to either double team or frag em out.

@ward445 nope thats not the only way. I have used the sawed-off, if I miss at all i'm done. my enemy can kill me mid-reload. Also, yes smokes and gernades are an option, thats called strategy, it requires you to think, not rush in and die. Also you can sacrifice your self if you feel like your good, the gnasher can kill at almost same range as sawed-off, so you both die. Also, maps are made for anti camping, there are always multiple entrances to an area. I am always on the move with sawed-off.

@oXGaMeRXo no it isnt. If you havent noticed, when you active reload the sawed off now it has 3X the normal range than it used to. So they might have reduced the normal range, but they buffed the active so much

To be thinking critically, Gears of War has been arguably nothing but shoties, sure you can say "The lancer is better for longer ranges than the shotty" But in reality as any normal gamer who loves gears you can't deal with that because you tell yourself "FUCK THAT I want to chainsaw that ass-face in half!" I've got to be honest in saying that I was absolutely sick to death of those gnasher duels that dominated gears of war multiplayer. I just don't have that level of skill to use a gnasher in a fight like that, and when I'm not good at something and I can't improve on it any further I like to look for an alternative. The problem was that there wasn't much of an alternative, and fair play to epic for trying to solve that problem, but even I would say that the sawed off goes too far.

@MarvellousMuffin You can always get better. You dont need EPIC to provide you with a weapon that is easier. Shotgunning was and is still one of the most competitive aspects of Gears and its what made it exciting to play and watch. Why do people see anything difficult in a video game as a bad thing? Good players should be rewarded for their skill, not screwed over because someone else can achieve the same thing without putting any effort into it.

What I believe though is that there should be a valid alternative to the gnasher for people like myself without disadvantaging gnasher users. I can get better, yes, but I'll never be as good as most people. My manual dexterity is too poor.

Sawed off is so easy to counter. I don't understand half the complaints. What he did here was obviously incredibly smart. You can cry all you want but I doubt anyone who is so pro that they refuse to use the sawed off, could of got 4 kills with the gnasher in this situation. Some of you fail to realize that using the sawed off contributes to the full completion of the game, which a lot of gamers strive for.
