  • by watching this vid in this resolution, everone looses with federer.

  • federer really doesn't take exos seriously

  • Old man Pete taught Federer a lesson, lol.

  • This is a proof that Pete Sampras is a genius, it doesn't matter which age!

  • When Ivan Lendl was #1 in the world (1987), he talked about his recent practice sets with Rod Laver. Lendl was in his late 20's and his prime. Laver was in his late 40's and retired. Lendl said that their recent match was 6-3,6-3, which is amazingly close for that kind of age discrepancy. This isn't as much of an age difference, but it kinda makes you wonder how it would have went down if Sampras & Federer played in the same era. Fed's the most complete, ever. Pete's the most imposing, ever.

  • @theatlantean3 i disagree with Federer being the most complete player ever. his volleys are not at the level of sampras in his prime

  • @cain2335 NOBODY had the volley's Pete had in his prime. Like in boxing, here's how I see the "tale of the tape": Backhand: Federer. (By far, especially the variety). Forehand: Draw. (Sampras had a better running forehand. Fed has a better transition forehand). 1st Serve: Sampras. 2nd Serve: Sampras. Volleys: Sampras. Return: Federer Spin & Shot variation: Federer (by far). Touch: Federer Power: Sampras Clay Court: Federer (by far) Hard Court: Draw Grass Court: Sampras (but very close).
  • @theatlantean3 well some things here are due to different circumstances, like the spin. Federer produces more spin bc he has luxilon rough in his racquet. on today's grass: sampras. on actual grass: sampras by miles. same with hard courts. and federer barely hits returns that pressure the server. he just chips them back or hits them back and starts the rally. and people did have better volleys than pete did back then, like edberg, johnny mac and pat rafter

  • @cain2335 i don't know, i went back&watched a video of Pete vs. Mac in the 1990 U.S Open, and came to the conclusion that Pete had the best volley, ever. I used to think it was my childhood "heroes", Mac, Edberg, Pat Cash, and Becker who had better volleys. And yes, Rafter had some amazing hands, too. But go back and watch that 1990 U.S Open match between Mac and Pete, or the match between Pete and Roddick in 2002. Those 2 matches sealed my opinion of Sampras being the greatest volleyer, ever.

  • @cain2335 Good point on the string though. Had Pete used the same string in the same racquet (like he's doing now), he may have had some more "action" on the ball. But I still think Fed's little chip / slice backhand, mixed with how he comes over the ball on that side (the return when he has time) is far better than Sampras ever had on the backhand side. I'm the same age as Pete and grew up playing the same time, so I'm a big Sampras fan, but I put Federer right there with him on the GOAT list.

  • @theatlantean3 i agree with federer's backhand being better, especially how he comes over the ball. sampras did come over it well, but not with the same spin and power. that's partially bc of how fast the courts were back then, and how the ball skidded low and fast. that doesn't happen in todays game; the ball sits up more

  • @cain2335 yeah, the courts have been slowed down quite a bit, but the balls are hit harder. The players today simply go after the ball more with faster swing speed, so even though the court is slower today, the ball is coming at you harder than back when i was competing (80's / 90's). Even my childhood role-model Mats Wilander plays a more aggressive game now than he did back in the 80's. I recently saw him workout when he came into town & he spoke about that very thing.

  • @theatlantean3 yep, i remember that about lendl-laver... there's an old utube vid w/ laver vs. connors, amazing stuff- no question rod "the rocket" laver was a beast...

my fav all time (b4 fed) was mac... sampras' volleys were gr8 but no one can deny edberg's volleys... also, i def would not choose those 2 matches to highlight sampras' volleys: 1990 was b4 his prime and 2002 was after

btw folks, this was an EXHIBITION... DID U C SAMPRAS' TWEENER SHOT??? this "match" is not real

  • really u think fed playing the best he let sampras win

  • @Marijuana645 Fed was trying harder than Sampras, but Sampras was just too good that day.

  • Sampras vs Nadal

The Grass GOAT vs The Clay GOAT

Lmfao. Jk. Unless it's on clay, Sampras would make Nadal his bitch.

  • did anyone see sampras hit his own balls

  • I'd love to see an exhibition match between Djokovic and Sampras, the two greatest of all time.

  • @thisislaser djokovic greatest of all time? i mean he's world no.1 at the moment but i say give him more time to earn that title yeah?

  • @thisislaser Greatest of all time with 4 slams... hahaha you're funny dude

  • pete sempras?

  • Some just need to calm down. There is no way that you can say Federer is better than Sampras or if Sampras is better than Federer. These two never got to play each other when they were both in their prime. You can speculate, but you will never know who would have beaten who.

  • pete was right on his comments the other day....part of his retirement from tennis was because he felt he had nothing else to prove...he was right on...pete is a true champion and a legend just like federer is....both of them are amazing !i like nadal very much but he has to prove himself more.

  • greatest Roger and Pete. love both. this great game of Sampras. Roger was tired. But, Roger is a looking good :)

  • sampras 90s > federer

  • @andunusblick Roger Federer >>> Sampras

  • Nadal is very ignorant if he really said that. If he had his way, he would've made the volley shot illegal. He would've made stepping inside the baseline illegal. Heck, any shot that drops twice inside the baseline would've been made illegal :) Yeah right, Clay court tennis is so eye catching. The days of beautiful tennis are over. Look out for "drills" style tennis moving forward.

  • There are rumours of an exhibition match between Djokovic and Sampras. It would be great to watch my two favourite players. And by the way Smapras was Djokovic idol. Novak has already said he wants to play that match. So would be great to watch. I hope this match will happen and we can watch it on YouTube.

  • Shows in a nutshell what'd have happened if these two meet at the USO back in 2001. I mean a good serving Sampras beats even prime Federer.

  • @locyka19 I'm not so sure about that :) Sampras may have won but it was an exhibition. Roger didn't care, he had taken two matches already. I suspect he let up a bit and let Sampras win. Also what makes you think Roger was serving at his best? He wasn't. Only at certain times in these 3 matches he deliberately served well. I'm a fan of both :)

  • Looks like Federer's playing about 65% here...

  • Nadal always looks down past players.

"to watch a Pete Sampras versus Goran Ivanisevic match. or one between those kind of players, is not enjoyable. It's not really tennis. it is a few swings of the racquet. It was less eye-catching than what we do now. everyone enjoys the tennis we play much more. I am not saying we are playing better tennis. just more enjoyable tennis. For me in the past it was just serve. serve. serve"

Annoying. Overrated. Arrogant. Arrogant fans. sucks Nadal

  • @AkMachx things always evolve. not limited to sports. the state of the current tennis. All surfaces have slowed. ball became heavy, too. The racket improves, too. This is opposite to Sampras fast surface age. Do you say that you are right based on what? is nadal able to win in fast grass of the Sampras age?

  • @AkMachx Roger Federer always respects Pete and a past legend player. Novak Djokovic said that he wanted to become Sampras before. Federer's generation players never look down on past players. It is modesty and all respect, for made the history players.

  • @AkMachx

You obviously don't know much about tennis!

  • @overratednadal Who said this? Nadal??

  • @overratednadal Nadal really said that? Shame if it's right. If Nadal had played Wimbledon in the nineties, it would surely have been more difficult for him. I was really amazed the first time Nadal won Wimbledon. In the nineties, how could a baseline player have been so good on grass?

  • @wizzie47 If nadal only had the 90's racquets technology to play with he wouldn't even be able to compete back then. His style is very good with the new racquets, but on a very fast surface he drops the ball short and gets pushed back very easily. Wimbledon was slowed down in early 2000's to increase rally length.

  • @overratednadal I would like to see more volleying today, but I do agree that tennis today overall is more exciting. I think Agassi was the guy who transcended all of that, Federer in his early prime did as well. However, tennis today is classified more as a sport, whereas there was definitely more of a "game," or an "art" in tennis when guys like Laver, Kramer, and Nastase dominated up until Sampras' heyday.

  • @overratednadal Because of the type of tennis Pete plays, he could still play so well at 37, and could even now. Imagine Nadal running like a yard dog on the baseline at age 37, just imagine. That would be eye catching, no? :)

  • @overratednadal while i am a big sampras fan...nadal has the right to have an opinion. he grew up in spain, which is all about clay, so it's understandable why he doesn't enjoy serve and volley and why he enjoys rallies

  • @overratednadal

did he really say that ? It makes me hate him even more

  • LOL. Arrogant blind asshole fan of Nadal. Say something. Insult to players in the past of Nadal. Arrogant cheaters of Nadal. Time-out of fake always. take time of fake alwys. Nadal's criticism to Djokovic's pleasure. sucks Nadal and Nadal's fan

  • @overratednadal where did you find that quote?

  • @rmsprowler It was on the ATP website a few weeks ago. You can probably find it in the archives.

  • @overratednadal BAD ENGLISH!

  • @beastmry quoted entire. Nadal said. " Personally, to watch a Pete Sampras versus Goran Ivanisevic match. or one between those kind of players, is not enjoyable. It's not really tennis. it is a few swings of the racquet. It was less eye-catching than what we do now. everyone enjoys the tennis we play much more. • Roger Federer's racket is actually 88 sq inches and the one sold in stores is 93 sq inches. Roger also uses a different string pattern. the main strings are spread farther apart for more spin. Look it up if you don't believe me. He's the GOAT at cheating.

  • All pro players are over hyped clowns. They have custom built rackets to help them cheat. Oh I'm sooo impressed!!

  • @thisislaser Can't tell if troll or just stupid

  • @unholyjebus You're just another easily manipulated fool. They cheat stupid!

  • @thisislaser How can you cheat at a competitive sport where the same rules apply to everyone. Not to be pedantic but the rules obviously states that you can use these rackets otherwise they wouldn't be using them. The only person who has a problem with this is you and maybe Steve who lives in that insane asylum down that street... you know the street i'm talking about one... how can I describe it... the one where your mum is advertising her who-ha.

    Your argument is invalid.

  • @unholyjebus Normal players use store bought shit rackets and top players use their money to build great equipment. You call that fair. Without money from their rich parents they're nothing.

  • @thisislaser I do semi agree with you that players from a rich background have an advantage but to go as far to say that they cheated, no. If a dad payed for there child's university expenses, dose it mean the kid cheated. The kid still has to work hard to achieve good grades. Besides, ever heard of the Williams sisters who had a rather modest upbringing.

  • @unholyjebus True, Williams sisters did earn their achievements.

  • @thisislaser naw equipment is about 1% of the sucess equation. jimmy conners won many majors 10 ithink, with a dime store racket, wilson t 2000. about 30/40/bucks at the time. and tennis shoes are tennis shoes. maybe the rich kids get better training at a young age. thats it ..novak use to play on the bottom of a swimming pool comming up. the williams girls were taught by there dad on the courts of compton. conners grew up in east st. louis ( not a fancy place) petes folks scrapped to get going

  • @1986billyk I'm not talking about Connors I mean today's players

  • And let's not forget the Djoker. xD

  • Nadal said. "Personally, to watch a Pete Sampras versus Goran Ivanisevic match, or one between those kind of players, is not enjoyable. It is not really tennis. " Arrogant Nadal . sucks.

always cheaters in the game. Illegal coaching, always fake time-outs, always annoying. always exceding time limit between serves, always gamemanship, mindgames, and spitting in the clay. etc. etc. etc.

annoying. arrogant. overrated. arrogant fan. sucks Nadal

  • @KIWI897 LOL yes. nadal fan = stupid arrogant blind. Nadal always look down past players. " Personally, to watch a Pete Sampras versus Goran Ivanisevic match, or one between those kind of players, is not enjoyable. It is not really tennis. " sucks arrogant Nadal.Nadal.

always cheaters in the game. Illegal coaching, always fake time-outs, always annoying. always exceding time limit between serves, always ugly gamemanship. always fake injury. annoying. overrated. arrogant. sucks

  • @overratednadal I dont think that was meant as an arrogant statement, but rather focused on the duel of "acers". Actually, he is right... to see a match where both players progress with aces only, is not "enjoyable". I rather find it quite common to hear arrogant sentences by Federer...like the one JUST yesterday. He said: "Wimbledon is not going to be won by a new player, but only me or Nadal". And today He got kicked his ass by Tsonga. That was actually ENJOYABLE :D

  • @PatagonianWarrior Roger's interview was modest. “I think my game was plenty good enough this year to win the tournament, but unfortunately there’s only one who can win it, and the rest go home empty-handed,” “That’s what happened to me today, but Jo played an amazing match. great game to both.” very humble Roger. And, class act, when game end. too

  • @DoctorDoomsday1 Clay is by far his weakest surface. What on Earth are you talking about? I can guarantee you that even if the Wimbledon courts were significantly slower today (which they're not really)nhe would have still won 7 titles. Absolutely guarantee it.

  • @DoctorDoomsday1 What? Oh my God... are you being serious? He lost to Tim Henman when he hadn't won any Grand Slam titles before. When he wasn't good enough to win them. This was when he was like 12th in the world or something. Since then, he can defeat anyone on grass. Literally anyone. Between 2003 and 2008, he literally never lost. And you say this is due to him requesting slightly slower courts? Wow. You sir, need to show some respect to Federer because you're talking crap just now.

  • @DoctorDoomsday1 Are you serious? Federer is the best all round best tennis player and experts agree with that. If he had suggested faster courts, you would be accusing him of giving himself an advantage in another aspect of his game.

  • 2:51 best !

  • @DoctorDoomsday1 What are you speaking? Roger is a 5 time champion of the US open. 5th straight victory.

Moreover, Roger has the successive victories record of the hard court. The following record of Djokovic today. Both are records that are longer than Sampras. Roger is a great player. on the fast court and slow court.

  • federer vs sampras when both were in there prime at wimbledon = greatest match of all time!!

  • Greatest Roger and Pete. love both. This great game of Pete. Roger is tired. but, Roger looking good :)

  • @federerbestclass Nadal was so tired. He was injured and sickness and MONO and SLUMP of head, arm, ankle, stomach, brain, eyes, elbow, celulitis, fingers, liver, bowels, boob implants, nose surgery, wrist, nails, etc. Classy. love Rafa:)

  • @DoctorDoomsday1 Sampras is a really great player. However, he is a bad clay court player. too bad slow court player. sorry.

  • 2 Greats. Both at their peaks i think pete would have had the edge on grass. Perhaps Roger would have the edge on clay and perhaps even on hard. Unfortunately we'll never know, bit like Senna vs Schumacher in F1. Both awesome serves, although Sampras i think has the best serve of all time. Not the quickest but he could place the ball anywhere he wanted.

  • why do I get the feeling that, the entire chinese audience didn't understand how tennis even worked...

  • Since Federer started fucking about with Sampras..he started loosing on the tour...

  • @symba Yes, I think losing to Sampras on his private court and on having these close matches on tour made him realize he's not that great lol

  • Sampras will always be my fav.

he would be an awesome coach!

  • lmao at people thinking this was a ligit match... federer was not playing in full mode. i mean sampras played hewitt recently in an exhibition and hewitt thrased him 6-2,6-2 or something and on the tour federer demolishes hewitt. sampras still plays well but he couldnt compete on tour at his age.

  • @AceGuitarR7 Rafter dominated Federer and Sampras dominated Rafter!

  • @thisislaser the head to head may suggest that but most of their matches were very competetive, most matches going three sets and many tie breaks.. and rafter beat him where it mattered... us open semi final in 1998

  • @AceGuitarR7 At the same time Federer would not want to be humiliated to a guy who retired 10 years ago. Federer probably had more trouble returning Sampras' serve than anyone on tour at the moment. As you know 'ace' Guitar - tennis is ALL about holding serve :)

  • @khale4nia yeh, i actaually think sampras serve now would still be among the best. the thing that would let him down is fitness. being able to back it up and win 8 matches in a row is very demanding.

  • Pete and Roger should play now. Roger is an old man now too.

  • Pete beats Federer? Er, more like Federer lets Sampras win because he feels sorry for the old geezer. Notice how Federer rolls every serve in.

  • @superman11978 Yeah, and you would probably not return one single of those serves "Superman"..Sampras would beat you playing from a wheelchair without wheels....

  • @rorikjunior i believe that is just called a chair

  • @MrPhilsd That depends..a "normal" chair I reckon would be more comfortable to use...but you get my point

  • sampras my greek boy!

  • Novak Djokovic is the best now :D

  • @mrnixon12311 he may be the best on tour now but federer is definately the best player of all tiem! the most all rounded player

  • The two greatest players of all time IMO.

  • @sdnm86 Bud its not just your Opinion. You are 100% correct. Records prove it. Not the mention the hearts !!!

  • To say Roger didnt try is just silly. If your an athlete in front of an audience you try, its what your born to do. Fed ran after alot of balls hard. If you want to say that Rogers mental game wasnt 100% because it was an exibihtion match, i would agree. In a real match perhaps he could have dug deeper and beaten retired Sampras. He has done it before, he just had an off night. Great play by both!

  • @nielslennartohlsen lol it means that it's an exhibition and it's just for entertainment!

  • LOVING 2:50

  • Thumbs up or thumps down or both if you think MrFedExpress is a total clown :)

  • Federer is serving like Chris Evert in this match XD he's taking sooo much off it lol. still, Pete did play super well so that's nice to see.

  • Pete beat Roger with his own racket.

  • roger did a little nadal move at 1:09 x]

  • @calvinluu333 agreed. it appeared to have that nadal swish to it :)

  • pete seems an active player....genious!

  • They have like the same type of game.

  • Federer's more than just volleying, even with rafter, lendl, borg, the level of competition from today requires a lot more strenght, physical and foot work, and federer dominates it.

  • Federer never play 100% guys its only a show match

Sampras would go down with the age of 36

  • It's interesting.I don't think this match is 100% serious after saw Sampras doing that trick but it shows many things and facts...for example Federer is in a little trouble when he has to play with a serve and volleyer....Sampras is one of the best s&v-er and Federer dominates mostly baseliners.

  • 0:44 - 0:55, Slice it Guys! nice!
