The CCX's engine is DIRECTLY based off the CCR, admitted by Koenigsegg themselves. All they did we re-engineer it (port the heads a bit, tighten up clearences etc...) on a computer, and remanufacture it.
It is the SAME engine, yet updated and more powerful, the engineering (I believe) was done in house, then the brit's assembled it.
The CCR's engine puts out the same power as the CCX's engine, if you look at wikipedia, the CCR's engine is a ford modular V8, the CCX's engine is made in house by K-egg. But if you like, i can take the train to the K-egg factory and ask, its just 20 minutes from my town. oh, K-egg has a youtube channel, its KoenigseggAutomotiv

Why a V12 for only 520hp? The Koenigsegg CCX gets 806 hp out of it's supercharged AMERICAN V8. Just seems like a waste.
