  • God, I love this version. But I love everything Nina does. I miss her so. Thanks for uploading this.

  • this is one of the best artists ever.

  • This is one of the world's most brilliant songs. To hear one of the world's most brilliant artists performing it touches another level of wonder and delight.

    What will happen now?

  • if you like the curious world of JK, then you'll guess, understand and like Nina's interpretation

  • if you like the curious world of JK, then you'll guess, understand and like Nina's interpretation.

  • I'd like to see the Dietrich or Sinatra versions. Are they available anywhere?

  • Hmmm it’s a very arty version and probably appealing to 1 or 2 of you out there. I’ll stick to my Joe average opinion and declare: THIS SUCKS!

  • interesting video and haunting version by Nina Simone! She sang beautifully, even better than the original. I just can't see why so many negative comments. I'm gonna share this on my facebook page!

  • Beautiful, just beautiful. Sad to see so many negative comments. I can't help thinking that the incapacity to appreciate such a voice and interpretation is a reflection of our current society, taking long and rushed steps towards the deterioration of intellect, character and scope.

  • @marcusfranciscoI agree with you Marcus, such people will never be able to appreciate the concept of quality.

  • YUK!!!

  • hehe - she really pulls out the craziness this song is about!

  • Oh God, terrible.

  • OH NINJA PLEASE, GET THE HOOK.

    THIS IS HORRIBLE!!!!

I THINK MY EAR DRUMS GOT SCRATCHED AFTER THE FIRST 30 SECONDS.

it would be a good idea if she went to the moon, or beyond.

  • For fucks sake!!! Sounds like saturday night, 11.30, just before chucking out time at the 'old dog and duck'! ......

  • Sucks ass

  • as someone didn't once say music is in the ear of the beholder, good luck JK.

  • Well Ann and other haters of Nina's version; as the writer I was fortunate enough to have terrific singers interpret my song; Marlene Dietrich, Frank Sinatra - even Percy Faith instrumentally. But this is my favourite cover; Nina gives my lyric an entire new meaning.

  • @soundof7 Mr King, yours may not be the first name that springs to mind if someone were to ask "who is THE songwriter of the modern era?" and dear Miss Simone may not be the first name when the question is framed around THE singer, but this meeting of minds ,for me, is the most heart filled, indescribably beautiful, (it also encompasses ugliness in it`s purview) recording I know of. Her reading of Leonard Cohen`s Suzanne comes close. But this truly plumbs the depths and scales the heights

  • @tunult I agree about Nina's version - a fascinating and individual interpretation - as with Marlene Dietrich's, a classic version.

  • This is a wonderful song in and of itself. The lyrics are very thought provoking - the melody although a bit predictable is catchy. And you know what else? I don't just love Nina Simone - I ADORE her. Some of her numbers are pure genius. But something's very wrong here - she is not herself and this is a very indulgent mess.

  • @Anntelope I agree. This requires musicality and life experience of understanding the life of NIna, or Nina's artistic personality for that sake. I think that she was a wiise and brave person!

  • Nina Simone has gone to the moon. Damn. I LOVE this lady but this is terrible. Was she ill or on medication when she did this? Even the piano playing is sophomoric and predictable - I could play it with one hand behind my back and I'm very out of practice.

Damn. Again - I LOVE this lady - some of her songs are pure genius. This makes me giggle but in a very sad way.

  • Sorry!! but she murders this, if you want class listen to her take of Mr Bojangles.

  • this songs about people who live generic lives working as slaves no soul nothing there going to the moon no one lives anymore theres no energy no sun.

people who dont like this song must be on the moon.

  • In contrast to her typical vocals, she's abnormally flat here. I think that's what folks are trying to convey . Her rendition of "Angel of the Morning" is certainly worth investigating. Also, she doesn't sing the precise notes that the original performers sang, but they are still pitched within the triad chords of her piano's key, minus when she speak-sings. Perhaps a bad day for her voice, but she's still remarkable, otherwise.

  • I don't know what people have against this song. She sings on key the entire time except when she speak-sings. The piano is dramatic and powerful. The woman graduated from Juliard with a doctoral degree in piano, I'm sure she knows what she's doing.

  • People aren't used to songs with meaning. Most of us are used to repetitive lyrics that say nothing. I never thought I'd say it but artistically and intellectually people of the 50's, 60's & 70's were way more deep and smarter than the following generations--in SOME ways.

  • SUCKS!

  • sempre atual, é a arte de reinventar a música!

  • ela é realmente incrível!

  • That sucked eggs, you all must be drunk. And what is this stupid song anyhow?

  • listen again. its about the alienation of people and what happens when everything is gone.

  • Just a lovely tribute.

  • Neil Armstrong was seen on earth alone. "One giant step for everybody, one little song for Nina."

  • This song is simply amazing!

  • Jonathan King is not noted for depth in songwriting yet she has found in its enigmatic whimsy a description of modern dislocation - of course the liberties with time and tuning are part of the interpretation.

  • Amazing. She takes a fairly jokey eccentric vaudeville number like Screaming Jay Hawkins' 'I put a spell on you' and makes an almost terrifyingly chilling cri de coeur.

  • Its well out of tune is it intentional?

  • play it loud!

there's noooo-body left, evryone's gawnnn to the MOON!

  • Really great artistes march to their own beat, dreamboats.

  • Nina isn't too well in time with the keys is she?

  • i love you nina simon

  • I said "treatment" osa.

  • No, art is another word for bullshit.

  • Well I love her interpretation. I think my favourite is her treatment of Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood.

  • what interpretation? the song was written in 1964 for HER!!! the animals covered it in 1965

  • I DON'T KNOW WHY ,you people take so much time to explain ART & ARTISTRY to people who just DON'T GET IT ! , ART IS FOR PEOPLE WHO LET THEIR MINDS GO ! & DON'T EXPECT THE SAME ROUTINE EVERYTIME , just beacuse thats what makes them Comfortable & they don't have to THINK ! , This Woman has a Cult following & is ONE OF THE GREATEST INTERPRETIVE ARTIST OF THE CENTURY ,no need to explain her , if you don't get her CATCH UP ! , KEEP UP ! , or YOUR LOSS .............. RIP La NINA

  • He first came to prominence when he wrote and sang the global hit "Everyone's Gone to the Moon" in 1965, going on to become an executive and media entrepreneur. He recorded many more songs as well as becoming a writer and producer for various other musical artists. In total he has amassed career sales as a performer in the region of 40 million

  • this is some of teh most mundane prattle ever

    Simone was a genius

This recording is rare and incredibly seep amd meaningful

Lisen to it - don't sit there and judge it...

    great song

    great version

    relax

  • great song. nice photos. thanks

  • Excuse me Trixie - ONE HIT WONDER? In America perhaps but elsewhere I had dozens of hits! Don't worry - better to be a One Hit Wonder than a No Hit Wonder!

  • i am american, and i managed to track down your other hits...

  • Jonathan King Muskie and I wrote it; I love her interpretation, it's weird, individual, strange... many others covered it, Marlene Dietrich, Sinatra, but Nina's is my personal favourite.

  • Wow. To be a person who wrote a song that was sung by such incredible artists. Awesome.

  • JK, I love Nina, but your version is MUCH better IMHO. I agree w/you about her version of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood"--now THAT I love.

  • It's not that she's so much off-key, it's that she's speaking-singing, if that makes sense. The parts where she's singing are on-key.

Who does the other version of this - Herman's Hermits or something? Peter and Gordon? I can't remember. But yes, the lyrics are strange.

  • It sounded like Peter& Gordon or Chad & Jeremy, but it was actually Jonathan King (one-hit wonder)- his clip is on youtube

  • Nina suffered from bipolar disorder and was given to sparodic poor perfomances. Sadly I don't think the off key singing here was deliberate. But don't judge just on this. There are lots of brilliant performances by the great lady on youtube. R.I.P Ms Simone.

  • it's is supposed to sound unusual.

the lyrics themselves are unusual. *unusualy down to earth. Strange & uncomfortable when were so used to living on the moon.

  • While it is a touching song full of emotion and good piano, the vocals are much too unusual for comfort.

  • COMPLETE REALITY SONG > NOW AS IT WAS THEN!

When someone says the truth - nobody wants to listen.

The World is at large and out of its mind! A fact!

Nina does not need a fascist dictator like Simon Cowell to tell her where it's at. A joke!

  • EVEN if her vocal here sounded a bit unusual, it's still absurd that so many people actually HATE this song. The melody and the piano rendition should have moved everyone to tears. Could you tell me what songs do you like then, HATERS?

  • This stinks

  • can she sing i dont think so

  • are you crazy?

  • Her version is great, the more you listen to her, the more you realize that she is singing it the way it is meant to be sung, with depth of feelings, that really... Everyone's gone to the moon. Sometimes I feel that way, like nobody is thinking because there head is above the clouds.

  • This song is simply amazing!

  • Listen to what SHE has to say...if you want to bring YOUR prejudices and expectations to the music then fuck off and sing it yourselves. This is all diliberate, and touchingly sincere...and very nina!!! GREAT.

  • What the f*ck is wrong with you people??? This is an amazing track from what was, arguably, the most typical NINA album...her true self. Everything is diliberate...YOU BROUGHT YOUR EXPECTATIONS AND YOUR PREJUDICES AND YOUR IDEAS TO THE PERFORMER... can't you just listen to HER interpretation or else F*CK off and sing it yourselves...learn how to listen...take somethin IN for a change people. This track is amazing.

  • This is a disaster. Pure agony!

  • This is a joke right,,,,how to destroy a career,,,just sing one of the perverts songs,,is she drunk !

  • Sounds like it'sbeing sung by a muppet.

-paghat the ratgirl at the weird wild realm

  • Where's Simon Cowell when we need him.

  • she meant to sing it that way!!!!

  • Poor vocals from Nina, way off par for her!

  • a church full of singing out of tune....

    I miss Africa!

  • as always with Nina Simone, it's a very beautiful song
