i mean i wouldn't say dragon force sucks, some people love chops: thats what like 70% of jazz is. dragon force is just "jazz" with different instrumentation and thus a different target audience.

as for simplicity vs. chops: its no doubt i prefer simplicity. Ill get my fill of chops once in a while but the stuff that really sticks is the stuff with a memorable melody and interesting harmony, and sometimes in that chop stuff the harmony is hard to pick out if it gets "out there."

IT's the creativity that really matters. Don't get me wrong, I symphony X and Dream Theater. Both technically way more fuckin complicated. But often i think muse and matthew bellamy are more creative. And if you think that he isn't skilled, you're poorly educated go watch Newborn solo, its not that difficult but his live versions of it usually are fairly shred like, seeing as they're three string tapping patterns, not the easiest.
