I love your reviews, though we'lI have to disagree. If you listen to the DVD commentary track, Boorman explains everything you called random nonsense in the review. (Boorman admits that it takes a viewer willing to accept things that look very silly and that he probably went too far in places.) You also said you couldn't believe Connery quit Bond for this, but I think makes him a real actor rather than a money-grubber. All that said I know the video was done for humor and no harm done. Rock on.

The film depicts the hypocrisy of the Church of Rome, ' up with violence & down with sex ' it donates rape in marriage throughout history because of society and the Church's view on females especially at that time. It also shows psychology in the fact that the mind is the ' power ' centre, creative and imaginative too. It depicts also what hypnotherapists believe that everyone has a degree of dysfunction. Humans only produced crops of wheat from 10,000 yrs ago. The future is related to our past.

Zardoz is on Netflix. Watched it some months ago because I'd heard how horribly awful it is. A few years ago I'd read some guys's review, which included photos. Funny stuff. Glad I read it or I would have been lost in the movie. In the end you could tell that there's no freaking way they could portray what was probably a decent & thoughtful idea for Sci-Fi. Would have made a better book than a movie.

This guy didn't understand the film, so he keeps saying, "It makes no sense" - and that's pretty much all he has to offer. But the film DOES make sense, and it's very intelligent indeed; It's just over this guy's head, so he thinks it's silly and funny. It's a pretty childish response really - like a 7 year old laughing all the way through Mcbeth, and then saying it was rubbish because he didn't think there was any story.

Zardoz is an awesome film, but it's not one for idiots,

It's certainly a very odd movie, and has very "groovy seventies" imagery, but I can't say it's a hard one to understand. The existence of the stone head and the reason for it is made pretty obvious in the film.

Good review! I watched Zardoz for the first time last night and I'm still reeling. I thought it had some interesting concepts and I really loved the visuals, but sweet buttery CHRIST is this film a mess. It really is one of those films that people need to see just to comprehend that yes, it does in fact exist and yes, you do see Sean Connery running around in a red bikini/bandoleer.

In a nutshell this movie describes a future where we've learned and conquered everything and as we bask in the glory of our own perfection we become stagnant and bored with life to the point of insanity. Zardoz is just the guy who runs the "outlands" keeping the brutals busy and controlled. Zed is a product of controlled eugenics, able to breed freely amongst the brutals in the outlands in order to form a superior race, Zardoz's idea, I imagine. The 70's really pumped out some crazy shit. ZARDOZ
